Into the Bariverse feat. Josh Boerman

Josh is back to talk about his specialist subject - media consolidation by the Ellisons! But we also look at a possible upcoming energy price crunch (at time of recording anyway) and assess how prepared Britain is. All this following a trip down memory lane in Dartford.

Check out the Worst of All Possible Worlds here!

Guys youre not talking about midwest emo, midwest emo kids dress like podcasters in their 30s, all that scene stuff was basically eyeliner pop punk, NOT to be confused with the early bay area-influenced "gritty" pop punk that green day popularized before they were given one billion dollars and went insane, or its modern equivalent "orgcore", im gonna let you off with a warning this time but don't let it happen again!

Were these words?

The "oh we're gonna be nice about being racist and insane" is LITERAL holocaust shit. Yeah a sizeable part of the nazi death machine was a like, death cult that worshipped killing as many people as possible, but so much of the like "nice" bureaucrats that ran the camps were also these fucking people that were all about how important and awful this work is, and how important it is to have a good responsible man doing the work. They can't even stand the sight of corpses. Fucking disgusting. https://www.politico.eu/article/auschwitz-guard-germany-holocaust-history-world-war/

My favourite Holocaust story is when Himmler implicitly had his manhood questioned and despite the warnings from his sycophants he set off to prove his manly vigour by visiting an active death camp and personally supervising its operations. He had barely got off the train when he blew chunks everywhere from the smell alone, begged off actually going in because he said his tummy hurt, and had to sit in his vomited-on clothes for hours on the way back because neither he nor anyone else brought a change of clothes. tldr: these people would throw up in their mouth a little bit if they realised they'd used the wrong pronouns while signing your death warrant

I think if you just kidnapped all these people hogtied, and live streamed their *you can’t say that* you would be the most popular politician in the western world

Honestly I think the merger is an attempt to destroy Hollywood flat-out.

Hussein re: “my thinking is, the right has sway in online fast-content spaces, the problem is, they had a much more secure chokehold on that then than they do now” yeah the play here is to do to CBS+Warner Bros what Musk did to Twitter, and that went really well to mainstream not-extremely-online normal people as we all know.

Wawawawa · March 11, 2026

I think even if you're a groyper nazi you still think Elon's twitter is a joke, because it is lmao. This is gonna be the same.

this podcast is the only place i've ever heard anyone talk about commercial landlords as a political force. they did an episode a year or two ago about the US (specifically NYC's) housing crisis and had a guest on who/talked about a book that talked about how the mode of home pricing is determined by local industry and not on pure supply/demand economics -- IE if a city is an industrial hub the industries will make cheap apartments get put up because they don't want to have to pay thousands of laborers wages to afford high-end rents, whereas if a city is a commercial hub with a very slim workforce that requires lots of office space per-person (relative to like, sweatshop workers who can be stacked) that creates a class of commercial landlords who want all land in the city to be as expensive as possible. it was super interesting and constantly relevant to my day-job but i can't find the episode for the life of me. anyone know which ep that was?

My high school was built like two years before I went there, and in that time the music studios and photography darkroom were permanently locked and those programs done away with because teens naturally used them for hanky-panky

The right wing Titanic will have Captain Smith crashing into the iceberg because he's too busy gooning to sissy hypno with an extended sequence about how it's real and works

So a right-wing oligarch nutcase has built a media monolith that would be exceptionally dangerous, if not for the fact that it's going to fall on a sword labeled 'DEBT' and kill itself. The same mechanism that allows them to do their stupidity defeats it?

So the answer to massive studio debt is going to be fewer movies that suck more. Guess I better hope my DVD/BluRay doesn't explode. I'm sure PS3s have long life times, I haven't looked.

bears repeating that we probably all expected all of this to collapse in our lifetimes but god i didn’t think it would all be this stupid

W
Wawawawa · March 10, 2026

If anything it's way more surprising for me that there's people who *aren't* expecting the collapse at this point. Like I talk to people sometimes about the possibility of the place they live falling apart and they're like "oh that'll never happen". Dumbass end of history motherfuckers.

November's Vietcong analogy is how I've been feeling for the last 3 years. The fascism is coming, but it's been bred in an environment which cannot sustain it. People I care about are going to get hurt and that's horrid, but I don't have the individual power to prevent all of it, so I'm sort of biding my time, making connections, and waiting for public sentiment to, once again, be revulsion at the reality of the fascism, because that *will* come.
