SpAI vs. SpAI feat. This Machine Kills

Ed and Jathan from This Machine Kills are back to talk about the false choice between the good guy A.I. and the bad guy AI that - at the end of the day - are coming from the same horrible pipe. Also, a funeral for brewdog, a new tie up for eight sleep, and Farage continues to Starmerify.

The title joke works flawlessly in Spanish. Don't worry Riley, 👌

This AI bs is just that SMBC comic. Soon the pentagon will just be a building full of people with their hands on server racks to absorb the guilt of bombing children

Brewdog going under and the pubs being bought by gave me a chance to reread something I wrote in 2017 and I can’t believe how vindicated I was. Including about how weird James Watt is. https://www.tumblr.com/studentchow/160206388173/brewdog-is-the-justin-beiber-of-the-brewery-world

Tilray owns a number of brewerys and restaurant in addition to its cannabis companies in the USA, so its ownership of Brewdog isn't surprising.

Remote control car bombs have been a thing since world war 2 (Listen to Blood Work episodes on the car bomb). Someone has already used a Tesla as a car bomb.

What "special relationship" the one where the US tries to extract as much wealth out of the UK as they can while destabilising our country to make us into a powerless vassal state? Reform are right, Starmer is an embarrassment but they are far worse of an cowardly lap dogs to the American regime

Just to nit pick the machine persons not right about the timeline of the montgomery bus boycott. They're of course right about the need to organise before and during a boycott.

I’m not sure which is worse, being “encouraged” to use Claude Code at work when it can’t even write basic unit tests or having to review the product manager’s pull requests he vibe slopped out & his increasing misunderstanding of what we software developers actually do with every one he opens. Oh did I mention they are monitoring our token usage (and I’m willing to bet prompts too) making sure we’ve been properly “encouraged”?

The Liberal media, folks. The crooked Liberal media. They say Sow-ron! That he's the lord of ring, that he made it in Mount Doom, very spooky place, not my favourite. They say the ring will do anything to get back to him, can you believe it?

I learned from the Brewdog shutdown announcement that there's apparently a Brewdog in Cambridge that our weekly pub meetup has never been to. Even funnier its right across from sandwich shop I really like but it has so little presence I never noticed it.

It's a while ago but it was feat. the Podcasting is Praxis lads, so that might help your search. It was the one where they were looking at James Watt's book, in which he calls Churchill a 'world saving punk'

Re: the Burj Khalifa being like Sauron's fortress of Barad-Dur, actually yes. The tower is built with a largely unskilled workforce of what are basically slaves overseen by a handful of foreign experts regarded as wise men, magicians, and kings who were corrupted by the same dark magic which allows the tower to stand even though its build quality, materials, and basic design are atrocious. Barad-Dur, however, was *intentionally* built as an affront to Eru To the bit at c. 16:00 about who Trump would be in Middle Earth, the Angry CEO Guy Brennan Lee Mulligan did get an improv prompt of 'Sauron, but it's Trump' : https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VxZ1U9PdUR8

Sorry Riley, the Cola Wars definitely had a death toll. Coca Cola worked with Colombian death squads to kill union organisers and environmentalists. It wouldn't surprise me if Pepsi was up to similar shit too

G
George Toner · March 8, 2026

Pepsi briefly becoming the sixth-largest naval power in the world, with the third-largest submarine fleet, was purely a monetary matter and not a message. Or so the company line goes

As a semi-reformed computer person I do need non-computery people to understand, when it comes to programmers pushing AI especially Claude Code, that *COMPUTER PEOPLE ARE EXTREMELY IRRATIONAL*. The entire world has for the past ~3 decades massaged their egos, turning them into an insular social group of smug, superstitious cunts who strongly believe that their ability to hit Computer with a hammer until it complies makes them the smartest people in the world. (See any thread on the website "Hacker News" run by YCombinator.)

V
Vanessa P · March 6, 2026

Programmers are absolutely obsessed with installing dubious productivity tools, maximising their code output, "modularising" code to an extent that it has become an enormous threat to the entire internet's security. It makes total sense to me that so many have latched on to Claude Code because it's just another bit of 'productivity' snake oil at the expense of code maintainability, stability, etc etc. It's like installing a really satisfying vim plugin or something. It makes you feel good, and you, Intelligent Ultra-Rational Computer Person, couldn't possibly have feelings that don't correspond with reality!

somehow the guardian europe is the most cold-blooded evil branch imo. Like the UK columnists are sickos but they're authentically sickos. The European branch couldn't find anyone else so they just hired a bunch of think tank guys employed by L'INSTITUT EUROPÉEN DU PROSPERITÉ ET DÉVELOPMENT or whatever to write articles about how WE MUST ACCEPT THE TECHNATE FOR THE SAKE OF EUROPEAN UNITY, LONG LIVE ETERNAL COPRESIDENTS MERZ AND MACRON
