Escape from Mental Palm Jumeirah feat. Matthew Petti
It's the free one!
What if we put new, unwoke Switzerland on a major geopolitical fault line? We look at the world the day after the US-Israeli attack on Iran, including how Europe, the Middle East, and UAE based crypto hustlers will respond.

Trump: “I’ll never get bored of talking about this.” …immediately stops talking about this, starts talking about the drapes.
the funniest fucking thing that's pretty likely to happen is that the two F1 races in April in the Gulf are going to get cancelled over this
So not specific to this episode but I've been holding off on asking the obvious question: Is Milo not coming back to TF? Because the vibe shift has been crazy noticable to me and it feels like a pretty different show.
He still lists himself as a host of Trashfuture on his social media which I'd assume he'd remove if he had actually left
The main problem with trying to analyze current American strategic planning is that a lot of that analysis tends to assume that the people making the plans care about consequences to the country/empire. And the simple truth is that Trump just does not give a shit about any consequences that he won't feel personally.
Also not to go all Alex Jones, but the current global elite don't really see themselves or pretend to see themselves as attached to countries in the same way anymore. This is different even from Bush era.
In an age and type of warfare in which the winner is the one with the bigger fuckmassive pile of missiles, you would think the powers with the infinite money cheat and best access to resources would have the biggest pile. But nope, turns out they were grandma-clicking the missile icon every once in a while when they remembered that was something they were supposed to do while their opponent had hotkeyed it and was spamming it at speeds that could make a South Korean teenager playing Starcraft blush
They are discovering that there are no DLC or lootboxes which can make up for a lack of forethought or skills. No number of premium skins and dance animations can help a casual beat a real gamer
What are the chances that the US and Israel massively underestimated Iran’s capabilities because their model was based on AI/Palantir tech
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate there is potential for Iran to sink the USS John McCain
not the USS Holden Bloodfeast [Esteemed Bipartisan]
November should put out a package deal so I can get Trashfuture, WTYP, KJB, NGNM, BGSC for a convenient stable flat discount rate
like podcasting is fundamentally not a real job but if you do that many of them I'm willing to put you up for Honorary Worker
Do you think that if Iran backs a 9/11 style attack at some point that this time the US will blame the Saudis, just to mix it up
If the Trump admin is dumb enough to put ground forces in Iran, it'll be the end and the death of US empire
Idk about that, both Korea and Vietnam were way more expensive battlefields and the empire survived those no problem. It could be if their economy shits itself, but my hope is more that the list of places the US has to deploy to to defend its interest is getting pretty long under Trump. That's expensive, and it's more expensive the more you need to move your military around. Especially if he actually Does It in Greenland or starts a war in Asia (and god help us if it's against the PRC, unlikely as I think that is), I think something's gonna give from the overall stress test of US expeditionary and economic power rather than this one flashpoint. As nice as it would be if it was that easy.
Didn't expect to see a guest from somewhere like Reason but honestly Matthew was a great guest. It'd be great to have him on again some time.
foreign policy often is a weird stopped-clock point for libertarians
Riley calling the US's response to Ukraine "just lobbing cruise missiles at the problem until it fixes itself" is really funny when a major component of that war's politics has been denying Ukraine long-range weapons like that so the war stays there. It's gotten to the point now that Ukr is using commercial jet engines to make their own cruise missiles. As for the general US idea of using bombs to substitute for reality: I think they're gonna have the Soviet Afghanistan experience, where you do that for years until you suddenly realize your economy has been out from under you for that entire time.
Also, Afghanistan was at least confined to Afghanistan, whereas the US is going to have a massive economic collapse (in the form of the AI financial crisis) as well as either a constitutional crisis or a sucession crisis (if Trump dies, everyone is gonna try and ratfuck Vance out of the presidency, and if he lives to see the next election cycle, he won't leave office) while at war with half the world, and with an industrial capacity arguably inferior to that of the USSR in terms of sheer mass/cost effectiveness. Fun times.
I did expect it to just be called "the war episode" though.
I think it's extremely important to understand no matter how hyperbolic your hatred of Israel is, it's never as much as it actually should be.
One of my favorite memes I saw posted was something like "Influencers trying to get the last flight out of Dubai. 'Are we evacuating in order of follower count?" with a screenshot from the scene in Titanic where they're getting on the lifeboats.
the construction "whisper it, but _____" forms the headline of so many terrible opinion pieces that i can't hear it without immediately getting a fight-or-flight reaction
Chapo listeners always wonder when Felix will begin talking in an episode, Trash Hogs wonder when Riley will drop "globe-bestriding colossus" into his monologue.
Our equivalent is the Hussein jump scare imo.
I don't understand the appeal of Dubai. It seems like living in a wealthy suburb of Phoenix but with worse food and weather. If you have an EU passport why not just live in Greece or the south of Spain?
There’s no income tax and they pay very high salaries to attract professionals from the west. You can have some totally unremarkable PMC job but make enough money to LARP as an ultra wealthy person. I lived there for a a little bit as a teen.
Everybody’s voting for the Green Party of England and Wales because they want to create a Great Socialist People’s British Jamahiriya.
If anyone is disappointed that a Reason Magazine editor is the guest today, they do say during the interview, "I'm a little bit surprised at how little markets seem to be taking this seriously."
I miss his book reviews :(
I cracked up at the end of Labubu.
I'm praying a "stray" missile finds Andrew Tate in Dubai
I'm an Irish accountant and I say my compatriots in Dubai can stay there :)
Wondering if I could put down "Fear of American Targeted Assassination Strikes" as a reason I could work from home and not go into the office a few days a week. I mean Ontario's got to be on the hitlist somewhere.
"you want me to go into the office? the thing that killed Ahyatollah Khameni??" is such a funny bit. makes me want to actually deploy it, but sadly i work in hospitality so...
let slip the hogs of war
War hogs 🎵
Well fuck :(
