Goodwin and Good Luck

We go in greater depth about the Gorton and Denton by election that looks to define the new fault line in UK party politics - a head to head Reform-Green fight our current crop of national worthies can’t quite make sense of. They’ve put a normal person (Green) head to head with one of the most internet poisoned weirdos the U.K. has to offer (Reform)… and it’s STILL a toss up. Also, Neom’s epilogue and a meeting of the TF pension fund investment committee.

Due to the UK's racist citizenship laws, Goodwin is unfortunately technically correct https://www.reuters.com/fact-check/people-born-britain-do-not-have-automatic-citizenship-right-contrary-claims-2025-01-27/

Surely Burnham's deal for music is popular "indie" rock, given he's Mancunian? Bit of Stone Roses, bit of Oasis, can appeal to the "youth" with a bit of The 1975.

Wasn't one of the dudes from the 1975 horribly racist or a sex pest? Or a horribly racist sex pest?

I'm from the North part of Greater Manchester, so not the same part as Gorton and Denton, but I will say that Andy Burnham is very, very popular in Greater Manchester; to some degree the wider north of England. Less to do with his policies, (he's basically competent) but more about him being from here. He's popular as a representative.

It really is too bad that he made the monster kinda a normal guy. There was a great opportunity with the change to the monster pursuing Elizabeth to comment on incel anger that Insta models don't give them a chance despite their poor hygiene and terrible personality while at the same time wanting any woman they don't find attractive to be put in a rocket and fired into the sun.

Kevin: Spring is still weeks away but there's no sign of the rebar needed to finish those giant foundations...and without that signed off, work can't start on the damp proof coursing. Meanwhile, Mohammed and his third wife have a surprise on their hands..." [Exterior,.project owners interviewed with site in background] M: "WE'RE GONNA HAVE A BABY!" Kevin: "What does this mean for your original moving in date?" M: insha'Allah we can use the temporary accommodation I've got some guys building in the mountains. It might work out well as we've got a ski holiday too, getting a group together for [PHONE RINGS, he answers] Hello? What? THEY SAID WHAT? But why does it need to be _desalinated_ if we're just turning it into snow...put Jürgen on....what do you mean he's on his way to the airport?!"

C
Cat Mara · February 1, 2026

My Google-fu is failing me so I can’t find the context, but it was a response November made to someone on Twitter who was like, “well, what would you do if someone did {terrible thing} to you?” and November answered that it would make her nut so hard it would knock the ISS out of its orbit 🤣

Just dug into Andy Burnham’s music taste, he did an interview for The Quietus (!?) and listed 14 of his favourite albums. Entries include The Beatles, The Smiths, The Pogues, The Stone Roses, The La’s, Billy Bragg, Big Thief and Courteeners. So very much “Gen X Manchester” but hey it’s a far cry from Starmer and Badenoch. Also unearthed this quote: “Did you ever try ecstasy? No. Never did. That’s not just a politician’s answer either. It just wasn’t my thing. Lager? Yes. I can drink as much of that as the next person. When things started moving more in the house direction, that wasn’t me. Hacienda on the Saturday night wasn’t me, it was about the Thursday night.”
