The (Data) Centre Cannot Hold feat. Paris Marx

Paris Marx of Tech Won’t Save Us joins the gang to discuss his new limited series, Data Vampires, all about how data centers (shock horror) really aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, and instead just act as gigantic drains on the resources of the localities in which they are based. Also, we discuss one year of western media and political cover for Israel’s actions in Gaza and its neighbouring states, and reflect on the people who revel in making “humanity” a more contingent condition than ever.

Much as I enjoy the deliberate impressions, holy fuck does Milo(?) make a good Seinfield at about 58 and a bit minutes. My half-drunk brain went straight into images of Ovaltines and overtly shrilling displays of depuissance.

Lucky straight up talks like a Metal Gear Solid antagonist. "These western countries that like to pretend to be moral" needing to just let robots start killing whoever they want

my job’s mandatory annual “don’t take bribes” course for this year used Taylor swift tickets as an example of a hypothetical bribe, which means Labour Party officials’ bribing scandals are on par with those for mid-sized companies in corporate America

Elon Musk says "stairs" the way that british south-african lady November always talks about says pedophile (pheeedauuuophaaaaaauyile). I can't google her name. All I get is unsurprising reports of sex crimes by south-african british people. Also don't care. You know the one. ...Yes, that's right; that's her name. Eleneaor "Rose of Rhodesia" Roosevelt Warcrimes III. I know that cunt from anywhere. I can feel her coming ten miles before she crosses my doorstep.

year 2036, world is on the brink as the world community gathers around the very first supersentient AI machine to ask it the most important question ever: "how do we solve climate change" the machine displays a spinner for 7.2 seconds before printing: "first, build more electric trains and bike lanes" the world leaders rage, fume, cope, seethe "you were supposed to say something else!"

Some people just can't get past blaming Arabs for the continued conflict. My parents are boomer Jews (Jewmers?) and they won't come any closer than hating Bibi and "wanting peace." It's not that Israel is a fundamentally undemocratic country built on land stolen from people it perpetrates a genocide against, it's that the Palestinians supposedly don't want peace.

Adam thought of a good lick back to his dad getting called Simon fart but it was sever years too late so he had to write the article to get it out if his system.

This Tory son article is clearly a man who took a decade to think of a response to getting made fun of at school and wanted the chance to lick back.

You're a platoon sergeant in a future conflict. You're trying to deal with the enormous sensory overload of modern small unit combat while also monitoring your battalion net, the fires net, listening to what your own guys are up to on your ICOM, paying attention to your drone guy, keeping track of what the FAC that's attached to your unit is doing, while also trying to do the stuff you need to do to win this engagement. All the while Clippy is dancing in the edge of your vision letting you know that you're 119 days overdue for your MANDATORY motorcycle safety refresher course.

reminds me of this guy i met a house party in february who spent the whole night lying about his job to everyone before eventually admitting that he worked for the labour party (looked him up and he was the parliamentary assistant to labour mp sharon hodgson who is the vice-chair of LFI)

Abbots Langley getting grabbed for data centres is my "seeing videos of disaster on your phone until eventually you're the one holding the phone shooting the video". At least I might be able to buy property back near my parents once they're done making the area suck

If we get a Warrior class... We'll inevitably end up with a warrior class without masters roaming the country. Maybe by train. The return of the Railroad Ronin.

Re: Palmer Whogivesashit claiming he's of the warrior class because he's a highly abstracted and derived blacksmith, as a former operator of said weapons of state violence, that he would say "you need a sicko like me who won't lose any sleep over making the tools of violence" is all the evidence you need that he should under no circumstances be allowed to make the tools of violence.

Palmer luckey is the spitting image of a controversy-proof stateless white guy villain from a call of duty game set in the near future who comes back as an ally to help fight a Chinese guy who's Russian in the next game at the request of the developers' DoD advisor/patrons

Grimly funny that data centres are actually doing the sort of damage to people around them that wind farms are alleged do by conspiracy theories.
