No one will ever read this but - when I was a kid (maybe 20 years ago), my dad was the CTO of a medium-sized online betting company here in Europe. His big idea was to have a section of the website where people could do bet against each other on literally anything, exactly like Polymarket does today. I remember him being so frustrated because the company just didn't want to hear it. Later he managed to push through a spread betting thing that got shut down like a year later because again, the company didn't see the point, RIGHT before spread betting got massive. Lol this episode just reminded me of that, maybe he was a pioneer?

The fact that some media parrot these markets' made up prediction metrics to pretend they're useful for anything more than stealing people's money drives me crazy. If they were any good for gathering information you could use the metrics we have had for centuries but nope! I also find it very funny when they say insider knowledge improves the predictions - it actually does the opposite until the very last second (when prediction is useless), because insiders are incentivized to make their trade as profitable as possible.
