Writing Post - February
Alright? How's it going?
Here's the next batch of stuff. Middle is the hardest part to write to be fair. Short stories / Novellas tend to just skip the middle and go straight from Act 1 into Act 3. This is also why most stories out there feel like they meander a little bit in the middle. Usually involves a random side quest or something just to flesh out the characters and world.
In other news - Pre patch is a bit... shit, innit? And that State of Azeroth stream could've been an email. I'm personally choosing to latch on to a specific thing they mentioned: 'they can't talk about a lot of things because of story spoilers'. I'm really hoping that's the case and not just a complete lie. But I'm also wondering why they didn't just lean into that for marketing. Like... Midnight could've been really hyped up with a 'YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S COMING' type marketing campaign and I'm really confused as to why they haven't done that. And that trailer at the end of the stream - I genuinely thought it was an animated movie trailer. I said 'OMG' out loud and everything. Got to the bit where the Orcs run past with flamingo's and thought 'OK. Tonally a bit weird / probably gonna upset a few peeps but I can still dig it. It's got that Pixar Family Movie vibe and that's fine'.
Then she went inside her house and I was like... 'oh ffs. It's yet another housing trailer, isn't it?'.
Some good news though - Apparently Apple TV+ have picked up the rights to Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere stuff. After sorta mocking it a little bit last year; I gave Mistborn another go and ended up really REALLY loving it. One of the best trilogies I've ever read tbh though I'm not exactly a fantasy connoisseur. I have only read Way of Kings from his Stormlight Archive books thus far and that took me quite a while (700 pages in fact) to get into but I am going to read Book 2 because I've heard people say that series is even better overall. But I kinda hyper-focused on him after Mistborn so I've now read Mistborn 1,2,3 (and 4), Warbreaker, Tress of the Emerald Sea, Way of Kings, Yumi & the Nightmare Painter and I'm about a quarter of the way through Elantris as well.
