💯 Joe is right, you have to call the men the USMNT bc everyone knows that soccer is a woman's sport. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Genuinely one of my favorite anime. Loving that you two are going through it and very excited for Joe’s revelations as you go
Would yall ever consider covering a video game series lore lol cuz the Megaman Zero games have the most insane lore about replioids and androids
The Rain line may actually be a Triple Entendre - It's bad day for *reign.* He's decided to gun for Bradley with no hesitation.
I think you're pushing it, especially since it was originally written in Japanese. 😅
One thing I appreciate about Hughes- I feel like if a man had written him, there would have been the implication he died because having a family made him soft. That ain't here.
Something that I really appreciated that I think would be written worse by most male shounen authors is the episode where Hughes talks to Winry about how "men usually speak with actions rather than words, and sometimes men don't want to share their feelings because they don't want to make their loved ones worry, and you just need to be there for them when they're ready to tell you about it", and then after they see the Elric brothers being honest with each other about Ed being worried that Al would hate him, Winry mentions that "sometimes there are things that need to be said out loud" and Hughes agrees. I think there's something really significant there in pointing out a way men often act and how it isn't HORRIBLE, but sometimes everyone needs to be more considerate of each other.
Never been an anime guy before but y’all have converted me to anime and eastern horse orthodoxy! Just remember, “it tastes like shit.”
Joe, in 2 episodes you are going to encounter a scenario that is even sadder and more bleak than Ninalexander. I am disheartened at the thought of waiting another month to hear how you respond to it.
Armstrong being included in the secret fuhrer meetings is a good choice because in like the first couple lines the thing you learn about the Armstrongs is that they are aristocrats. I feel like Armstrong is a really good character in that he's very theatrical most of the time and he uses that to conceal the fact he's actually pretty cunning. I don't think he's completely faking his personality I think he conceals parts of it and lets you think the surface is all there is.
I don't know if I'd quite call him "cunning" like his sister is, but he's smart enough to be properly aware of the situations he finds himself in and what to be suspicious of.
Holy shit Southeast Michigan suburban sidewalks are hilarious. We’re all right people, we just haven’t figured that out yet.
I know this show can’t really be a main focus of the podcast but I’d listen to a lot of it
I could totally go for two a month. I just don't know if they can fit that into their schedules.
Im not sure how bad the situation was after the dutch lost but what I have seen and heard from argentines after they beat egypt in atlanta easily tops it
On behalf of all mexicans, thank you morocco
Just so you don't get the wrong idea going forward, I'm pretty sure Izumi just calls Hohenheim "an alchemist". He's not and has never been a state alchemist.
I really like this series and love hearing your takes on it. Kind of wish you did it more than once a month since I'm always left wanting more and FMA has such a steady plot.
The tattoo Izumi has is just called the "Flamel" and it's a real-life alchemy reference, but it's not a state alchemist symbol (that symbol is the thing on the pocketwatch, which is the lion on the Amestrian flag with some other stuff aroung it). Ed has it on his coat and Al has it on the shoulder of his armour and I think it could just be inferred that they adopted it because it was "her symbol" and she was their teacher. I hope that "this isn't actually a plot point" doesn't count as a spoiler to you, Joe.
the amestris symbol is the hermetic leontocephalic dragon, often called xthonoubis but in the gnostic mindings it is associated with yaldabaoth, the evil(?) & power-hungry false god which has created its own world where it blocks humanity's access to its own reality and to the true god.
Unfortunately, I don't think we see what Hughes really did in Ishval in Brotherhood, but in part of the manga centred around Ishval War flashbacks, we see him and a bunch of other non-alchemists as infantrymen. They're essentially fighting a war "normally" while the state alchemists are doing it the easy magic way.
There is a point to the birth stuff; it helps like pull back from the bitterness & nihilism of the series so far; it pulls the boys' heads out of their assess (so the opposite of a fridging? A defrosting? Heatlamping?)
Hughes dying back in... 05 ish brooooooke me. So much cope that the scanlation must have apocryphal pages
Bradley Dadmogging Myes' little girl lol
"With other English people" Wait TOM IS ENGLISH?! man am I ever absolute dogshit at identifying accents I thought he was Cajun
& Joe is a Clydesdale not a Mammoth Jack...
Joe becoming that which he hates... a horse.
He has finally converted to eastern horsedoxy
Also fun fact: in the manga, the hospital melon scene is Bradleys first ever appearance and i love it bc he is so weird. I assume the melon is a reference to Japanese culture and the practice of giving expensive fancy fruit as gifts. Most of the military characters are named after actual guns and military vechiles! Mostly their surnames. I do wonder how many of them you guys have mentioned on the main show
Gonna be real awkward when they introduce General Dassault Mirage 2000
One of my least fave cuts in the anime is the removal of Mason; he is the shop helper you can see in some scenes and in the manga he was explicitedly on the island to keep the kids alive as per izumis orders. He does beat the kids up a bit tho lol
I have really mixed feelings about it, because Brotherhood gives less for Mason to do, but it also made me feel better about Izumi than reading the manga did, because I think having the kids get beaten up was too far and didn't really help them learn their lesson.
To no one's surprise at the bodybuilding gym I go to In rural Oklahoma I saw someone who was wearing American flag shorts and had two conflicting tattoos on his body. On one peck he had North America with 1776 over it. On the other side has the state of OK with the Confederate rebel flag within the outline of the state.
We can only assume this is because also wearing his Keffiyeh, Ushanka, Stahlhelm, Bearskin, Eagle feather headdress, and three different kinds of tricorn simultaneously would have felled him by heatstroke if not a broken neck Instead of him expiring naturally of steroid and caffeine abuse, As The Founding Fathers Intended
