The Union takes over the island of Galveston, Texas, and the Confederates aim to take it back with quite possibly some of the dumbest armored ships the world has ever seen.

Pretty sure there's a lad who brings a Japanese Army rising sun flag to Cork GAA matches. I saw it for years on the GAA+ broadcasts for hurling matches.
Ah. Tbilisi, the Ronald Regan Memorial and George Bush Highway. Confused my young 20 year old brain when I visited there years ago. An amazing city I can’t wait to go back!
Texas really did invent da boat gambeson
The Michigan hand thing sent me back to freshman year of college at WMU and (as a Chicagoan) hating every single time someone did that.
My fellow Massholes know we sometimes have to take a trip down to the "packie" (package store) for a sleeve of "nips" ( tiny 1.5 oz mini bottles)
Glad to hear a story about the incompetence of one my ancestors who unfortunately fought here
as a non midwestern american i definitely associate "pop" with michigan
Rotate a confederate paddle wheel steamer in your mind
Lubbock Texas is surprisingly the only city where I've seen a literal Tumbleweed roll downtown on the red brick streets at Highnoon.
Say what you will about the cotton-clads, at least when you get grievous splinter wounds from the grapeshot, those wounds are instantly packed with gauze. Additionally, I appreciate the prequel story to REM's Orange Crush.
There was a battle that happened right across the Rio Grande called The Battle of Playa Bagdad (1866), where the Occupying Union Force raided the old port town of Bagdad Mexico and looted a bunch of goods. You have Americans, Juaristas and Pro-Maximilian forces all at once.
Every time Joe said McGruder I kept hearing McGruber and got a very interesing mental image in my head.
If Joe awarded him a "fell for it award" everytime he tee'ed up a "hold that thought" Tom would wear an outfit Zhukov would find tacky.
I was really hoping for at least one “rack of ribs” Texas BBQ joke 😂
Hey, Cabo Verde forever tbh
Quare warm on the Costa del Curracloe boi!
Ye olde OutKast be like “BOMBS OVER GALVESTON!” Or B.O.G. if you will
"It's actually named after his brother" See Also: Leesburg, Virginia not being named after *that* Lee, just his great-great-uncle.
"Decent"= "Good" Chicago thing(?)
What about how we measure how far away something is not in miles but in 15 minute increments?
Time to get a Norwegian jersey boys
Switching out my mexico jersey for a haaland mask
I wept with joy as Capo Verde put up a great fight against the godless argentines. I now weep with pain and sorrow as Mexico is knocked out by England. Hearing wacky confederates get got from yall brings a smile to my face.
Some personal history here that's relevant to the episode: I'm descended from Texas Germans on my mom's side; my grandfather's first language was Texas German despite being a third generation American. Growing up, I was always told that my great-great-etc grandfather joined the Confederacy under the threat of execution (look up the Nueces Massacre - not every German that fled to Mexico made it there alive). His entire regiment was made up of similarly minded (anti slavery) Germans, and when they were sent to reinforce Vicksburg immediately surrendered to the first Union troops they came across. I have no reason to doubt this story, as Texas in the 80's/90's was still very gung ho about the whole confederacy thing (to younger listeners, that sentiment was much worse then than it is now) and saying something like that publicly would not have been received well. My mom has his army pension papers in her possession (US gov honored Confederate penisions), one of these days I need to get it scanned.
As a lifelong Texan, I'll take as many Texas episodes as you got.
When will the Church of Eastern HorseOdoxy deploy the Horse Marines, I wonder?
How about a mixture of cotton, algae, and horse hair? They’d be unstoppable.
39:37 Tom indeed laughs like Johnny Knoxville 💜
The best(and most Texas thing to ever Texas) to come out of civil war era Texas is the free state of van Zandt.
Hey Marcus Parks from Last Podcast is from Lubbock, Texas. He once pooped in a box there.
Joe absolutely sniped me with the Quake On The Lake reference. An event which, by the way, is starting back up this August.
My mom's family is from the Pennsytucky parts of Pennsylvania, they say "pop." I may have a bit of a thing about this because my first college roommate (a complete piece of shit rapist) always said he was from Chicago when he was a rich boy from one of the white flight suburbs, but it drives me nuts when people say they're from a place when they're from near that place.
Horse marines shirt when
Not geographically, but New Hampshire is the south
Joe's dead giveaway as a Michigander for me is 'bolth' instead of 'both'.
wut its supposed to be like bowth instead of bolthf?
yall should like fuckin put me on the podcast or something, I have no relevant formal training despite being one of the seemingly scant few people cursed with the pain of an eidetic memory, also I can predict what yall say about 20 mins in advance most of the time and often do that without trying to…
How could not one of the hosts not mention turpentine is old time NOS? Insert your own Fast and Furious joke.
As much as I love him, I know Joe and I could never hangout cause whenever I’m in Maine (the most densely forested state in America) I have a fucking blast Drinking White Monster trying to catch river monsters (I’ve lost 6 lures so far)
legendary weekend pull
I remember the WTYP episode about this. It's when the fire fighters were battling to put out that fire with cum
Goon harder boys!
More civil war content lets fucking goooooooi
But it's July
Lmao that was my first thought. Insanely funny bit to advertise a June promotional bit on an episode that releases (checks watch) 10am July 5th, EDT
