nate having heat induced hallucinations of german speaking children is classic donk tangent material
We all know he got killed by the Yetis
the mountain's noble guardians 🙏
Joe judging Maurice Wilson for being a drifter is the height of hypocrisy.
I remember slipping on some shale in the grand canyon. It was like damn I almost died there. Well, anyway, I still gotta hike 5 more miles in the same conditions
Oh so he became WW1 John Rambo from First Blood. Hope the cops never hassled him!
The paragliding canoe guys did the coolest thing ever wow.
My grandfather's proposed Olympic addition was one to match the javelin throw: the javelin catch.
On the topic of wood chopping in the winter olympics, there is a such thing as the lumberjack games. Growing up in Canada, it would randomly be shown on TSN (our ESPN) and probably my favourite sport to watch as a kid.
I think Hillary was asked about Mallory potentially summiting before him. His response was something to the effect that “a successful summit isn’t just getting to the top. You also need to get back down alive.”
They have found what they think is Sandy Irvine’s foot and the theory is a Chinese expedition “threw” his body off the mountain in the 70s. I find this all deeply fascinating and so damn creepy….
Offbrand whiskey laudanum sounds like the most profitable thing in the world before you even get to the pyramid scheme
that just denis wilsons solo album
"New Year New Me New Zealand" - Maurice Wilson
I’m from Mitchell, and I think I know the gym Nate is talking about in Bedford
I suddenly find myself interested in sports at the mention of the "Clint Malarchuk Olympics."
I will say, the DH.60 moth is probably one of the only aircraft where I might expect to survive 9/11'ing a mountain. It's very slow.
If you want more insane guys doing early parachuting shenanigans you neeeed to do an episode on David Stirling and the forming of the British SAS
Now that I think about it, I think he also had a wild mountaineering phase
I know what she means, but "Everest is the mountain you die on, K2 is the mountain that kills you" implies K2 has a setup and is just sniping people on Everest. K2 has shooters.
The Clint malarchuk Olympics is truly a cursed comment
So, Maurice hallucinated either The Hermit off of the tarot card, or Odin (the inspiration for Gandalf's appearance)
Everfent sounds like something WTYP Liam would've invented during his time managing the Hardee's in Myrtle Beach
Horse Pilots is a great band name. I have been drinking heaviliy since I got off work.
I do like the idea of cultural sports at the Olympics. Like instead of just opening & closing ceremonies there being other events like concerts or artistic unveilings (like imagine countries shipping over statues that would become public art of the host country after the event) (I realize that with Eurovision having chosen to be a mercenary reputation laundromat; & with the USA fumbling their 250, but also for the "oh shit they pulled it off; despite everything and how rushed it was they didnt shit the bed" that has been the 3-way alliance for fifa... well my heart longs for like bigdeal worlds fairs, like the IOC needs, urgently, to be less fucking evil & sicko-minded but like...it could & should be a boon to the nations hosting it & it could & should be a place for real cultural exchange & peaceweaving)
He is very... muchly to the point I choose to believe he reached the peak or at least that he believed to have done so. Death would not take him until he did
Wood splitting would be a great Olympic sport
*refers to Clint Malarchuk's throat as 'wood'*
Omg plenty of time complaining about heat. Living in Houston, 5th largest city in the United States, if the temperature is below 80 Fahrenheit at 4 am for my 5k I’m lucky. High today is 98 and no change upcoming lol
Hmmm time to start giving administrators to Cajun Sobek
Am I the only one who got flashbacks from that WKUK sketch while listening to this episode?
“Mr. British consul, a second weirdo has struck Mount Everest.” Also: “Biathlon, or as we call it, Norwegian driveby. ‘GET THE TV HANS *BANG*!’” - Robin Williams
Maurice Wilson caught talking to himself at the Olde World Cup.
This guy's diary is a real world example of an environmental storytelling audiotape you'd find next to a corpse in a video game
If anything I think we are allowed to talk mess about our home states. We are more aware of the nuances of our homes. But man, when home feels like home it hits differently. I feel you Joe.
Just on the subject of Mallory and Irvine dying in 1924, I used to do some extreme sports and ultra hiking before my body broke. My nephew is also a competitive rock climber and also into extreme sports, so we've actually talked about Everest. It's highly unlikely that Mallory and Irvine made the summit before tbey died. They started their final ascent quite late, and a storm hit Everest in the afternoon. People with better gear have tried to recreate their most likely path in better weather, and couldn't make the summit in the time frame. And also, if you don't make it down, it's not a successful attempt. End of story. As for my nephew, he won't be attempting Everest at any time. He'd thought about it, and then I got him to watch some documentaries on the Everest Industry, including the great episode Well There's Your Problem did. He's decided there's plenty of non-sacred places to climb where he won't be doing as much damage to the environment.
Why is central AC banned for houses there? Thankfully im an American farmer so im in an air conditioned sprayer all day lol
It's not so much that it's banned in Europe, as hasn't been necessary. It's also either very difficult or downright impossible to install anything other than a window box unit in most European buildings.
We need to bring back an Olympic event that Nero could win.
What do you mean? Nero famously was a top rate Olympian. There was no sport he didn't win. & he didn't even use the Ephesian Words, pharmaka of such performance enhancement that they've been banned for over 2000 years
I hate it when I accidentally become a smack dealer
I think he might have had a psychotic break when he saw the wizard.
Thank you, chief Horsedesians for this. I’ve been fiending for more Mount Everest shenanigans since the Well There’s Your Problem episode on it. The locals deserve better.
This guy kinda rocks, not gonna lie
Also, I'm absolutely gonna do some screwed and chopped remixes of showtunes and vaudeville songs because of that bit.
My brothers in eastern horsodoxy you should do a speaking tour of Brisbane, Darwin and Perth in Australian summer. That is truly unrelenting, harrowing heat 38 to 42 degrees Celsius is an average day. Winter is a fond childhood memory. On a serious note though tour Australia if it’s financially viable even if it’s just Melbourne. Also finish the sharpe series off lol. Love everything you do, and enjoying the highlands burn thus far.
Hmmm. Joe leaves Europe and there is a heat wave. Now I just read there is an 'explosive diarrhea parasite outbreak' in Michigan...
Tbf it was probably the Arby’s based plague
