Vote on our next season of Lions Led By Robots
Tomorrow (the 18th) our NGE arc comes to a close (for now). When it came to picking what we're going to watch next, Tom and Joe just couldnt chose, so we're leaving it in your hands and keeping with the lesson we learned from our G Gundam series we're only going to watch something we really want to watch.

Grappler Baki? Big, beautiful martial arts dudes with heartfelt relationships? Tragic backstories with weird parental trauma? Ridiculous physics but extremely enjoyable fights? It’s like a blend of Fist of the North Star and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Lol this is such a work
Hell yeah FMA
FMA.
If FMA gets a slot for consideration does that mean other shows like Hellsing might be in the running
While I did vote FMA, it's a shame to see my second choice so far behind in third place!
I disagree with everyone voting full metal alchemist
Shame on me, but I voted for it because I was like "Yes! Something I like!" which is extremely rare if we're just going with robot shows, unfortunately. Either way, it's military, so there's something to say about it! Maybe Tom and Joe don't want to be tied down by the suggestion of "robots" in the title! Surely they wouldn't put FMA there if they didn't want to do it!
Full metal is not a mech anime
💯
I voted Full metal; but brotherhood's latter half sucks compared to the much more interesting OG show that actually has cool crossover with your real-world military history backgrounds (not to get into spoilers too much) Pleeeaaase go that route!
Why do a number of people people like the, IMO, more boring and depressing latter half of the 2003 anime and not the manga canon one of Brotherhood? I don't think the manga ending is perfect, but it feels more like... the ending to the story that was being told.
Eureka 7, or Code Geass
Girls und Panzer, high school girls tank battle sport anime.
Do gundam 79 you cowards.
Second
What I really want is a lions led by robots play through of armored core 6
Why not stay robots and watch patlabor, gurren Lagann or heaven forbid code geass? Could do movie series and watch Jin Roh or GitS
As much as I love FMA- 86.
Not me learning about two new animes that sound good from this vote
I desperately want to hear you guys go through Samurai Champloo. I already know you guys like it and honestly, LLBD's Japan-based episodes are always *chefs kiss*, you guys would come up with pure gold for the episodes.
That show was so good... Half of that is just the soundtrack though
fullmetal alchemist... Fullmetal Alchemist!
Full Middle Malcolmist.... Fullmiddle Malcolmist!
I, too, was a dog of the state
BattleTech
Fullmetal Alchemist is NOT about giant robots, which is part of why I like it so well, but it is about the military and it's SO FUCKING GOOD. Just a warning that there's like... one character who shows up later but doesn't actually have an introductory episode in this series because the series seems to assume you would have either read the manga or watched the 2003 anime (which started off canon to the manga, but went off on its own thing since the manga wasn't finished). There's a brief flashback, but you might be like "Why are they talking about this guy like we met him before?"
FULL METAL FULL METAL FULL METAL!!!
Watch the original bad full metal alchemist! I want here you're thoughts on how scar carried that dude up the stairs when he had no arms!
Samurai 7 is both interesting and disappointing. Stick with 86.
Guys... Gurren Lagann. You have to watch it after Eva.
I came here to say Gurren Lagann but you fucking bet I’ll listen to FMAB.
BIG O BIG O BIG O BIG O
*guitar riff*
Can we just be a solid hour of the “Rich Piana Wellness Memorial Corner”?
love FMA but isn't that show like 70 episodes? is this series going to run for 3 years or are you guys gonna cover like 10 episodes per show?
A few are recap episodes, that’ll save them at least a few.
The other suggestion that I have is Simoun, just because it has such a complex and interesting take on war, gender, sexuality, religion, politics, class issues, social systems, growing up, and a plethora of other topics. I don't know how readily available it is, however, or if anyone else has even heard of it. I think Tom might like it, though.
I'm going old school and suggesting the original Bubblegum Crisis OVA. Dirty Pair or COBRA would also be great.
One of these days, I'd love for you to go REALLY old school and watch Vehicle Force Voltron and Lion Force Voltron and give us an opinion on which is better. (And any answer other than Lion Force is UNACCEPTABLE.)
Girls und panzer so Joe can geek AND weeb out at the same time
Gurren Lagann would RIP. I’m sure that’s already been said in here
I don’t know any of these but will listen so someone tell me which to vote for
86 is the only correct choice.
FMAB is literally my all time favorite anime! I’d love to hear your guy’s take on it all :)
Armored Trooper VOTOMS
I vote for a FLCL Palate Cleanser first
Just finished the last episode for EOE, fuck yeah Manifestation is real
Pluto would be an incredible watch
Fruits Basket!
90s Berserk isn't on the list. Boooooo
86 is so fucking incredible
Good god, if you are going to watch the FMA version that I think you're going to watch, good luck dealing with that repetitive-ass strings soundtrack. Ugh.
Finally I look forward to listening to Led by robots again after the NGE hiatus I will always recommend the og gundam movies think that would be fun
Brotherhood is like 50+ episodes long
72, I believe.
Gundam Wing would be a great series to cover
As would robotech
69%. Nice
Hell yeah time to rewatch FMA: Brotherhood for the thousandth time
Eighty-Six would be such a good fit!
I wish it was the original FMA series (my all time favorite anime) but Brotherhood is still solid (my #2 of all time)
I think that the latter part of the 2003 FMA is SO depressing that I dislike it. The soundtrack is still pretty nostalgic for me though. Also, that series has way worse versions of characters like Scar and Kimblee. I was especially disappointed by Scar's essentially aborted arc upon rewatch.
The Original Gundam still holds up really well and you can watch the movies for a condensed experience. Iron Blooded Orphans is a solid modern take. Armored Trooper VOTOMS/Armor Hunter mellowlink could be good classic robot series. And at some point if you want to lure out EyepatchWolf, I still think you should offer to watch Gunbuster/Diebuster with WoolieVersus. Just my unsolicited recommendations though. Can’t wait for the finale and FMA, and I hope you eventually come back for End of Eva and the rebuild movies.
I'm still voting for Pluto.
Zoids
I prefer FMA proper, but that's not on offer
NGL, I consider it pretty blasphemous to call the 2003 series "proper" when Brotherhood is the manga story (which I think is a lot more cohesive myself).
mfab will probably be 2 years at least. they can't really do 2-3 episode blocks
I'd fight someone to get a watch party for Samurai 7. In my book, it's that good.
Y'all gonna be doing End of Evangelion right?
Some more for the backlog: - Big O - Gunbuster - Gurren Lagann - Patlabor 1 and 2 - Mazinger Z (Edition Z: The Impact might be the best) - Roujin Z
I immediately loved Big O because the theme song is a direct rip-off of Queen’s theme for the Flash Gordon movie. The show is great, too.
If you're leaving behind the giant robots then I want to listen to Joe and Tom discover peace and mental health by watching Laid Back Camp. Going camping with 10,000 of your closest friends is a bad idea, going camping with 1-5 lovable kids and their drunken faculty advisor mends the soul.
Laid back camp is sooooo good!
86, if only to hear the heartbreak in Tom’s voice during the unit robot’s last scene.
Where's Ouran High School Host Club?
Patlabor: the mobile police (yes I still voted, but funny show, serious films)
FMAB doesn't have robots you doofuses
What is a Gundam but a suit of armor piloted by a little guy with trauma?
I haven't heard of Samurai 7 and it sounds really good. For the next round can I recommend Texhnolyze? Dystopian cyborg cage fighting. Tom will love it
I liked Samurai 7 a lot back in the day.
I will rewatch all of FMAB for the umpteenth time for this show
This is barely a poll, you know exactly what's going to win.
FMA all day regarding this list of choices, but I'd love an anthology series covering famous robots from movies and TV. Lost in Space, Star wars, Ex Machina, etc., are fountains of robot-based comedy. A different robot to dunk on in every episode would rock.
Voting for 86. But in my heart, Gundam Wing
Exo squad
That's a deep cut and given my memories of it, this would be well worth a rewatch. I remember it being surprisingly politically sophisticated for a Saturday Morning cartoon.
Eureka Seven maybe at some point
FMA is good but I feel like 86 has more to comment on
I think Gundam 08MS team should go on the poll
Better be ghost in the shell next time around
Can not wait for FMA, but just finished a rewatch of Samurai 7. FMA should be a 4.5 White Monsters out of 5 series as LLBR goes.
Ghost in the shell better be on the ballot next go around.
Escaflowne! Haha, I have no idea. Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex has some good robits and crimes.
Never heard of 86 Eighty-six before. Might give that a look. I just watched FMA: Brotherhood for the first time like last year so revisiting that through you guys could be fun. Definitely interesting to watch through the lens of what's happening in Gaza.
Putting my thumb on the scale beyond just voting to say that 86 is a tight 24 episodes and FMA:B is like 70 (plus y'all really should do a gaiden and talk about the 2003 series, which is underrated). To declare my interest, I like FMA:B just fine, but 86 went from being a show I actively hated and thought was borderline offensive for its facile treatment of genocide to being one of my favorite shows from the last 5-10 years.
Hell yeah, FMA! Alphonse is a Mech piloted by a ghost confirmed.
Macross Plus: can be done as a 1 shot, fantastic series
I would also recommend the Giant Robo OVA series. It's got that Batman: The Animated Series,"future art deco" style to it but with the addition of future China and I feel like the boys will love BIG FIRE.
Are you guys actually just going to do the opposite of whatever the majority of us vote for? Cause honestly, you haven't said "and then it gets worse" enough lately
People are sleeping on 86 which is weird because it's one of the best war/mecha animes out there in the past 10 years. There's alot about logistics and LOAC stuff in there that you can dig into.
No love for The Big O? Sad.
Girls und Panzer
WHY IS THERE ALWAYS A HOT SPRING SCENE?
I nominate Golden Kamuy.
Yes I want to second this, I feel like this would be laser guided for Joe and Tom. It's like, yo you like westerns? You like weird historical fiction? How about if it was set in early twentieth century Japan, specifically Ezo (Hokkaido) with a cast of characters featuring veterans of the Russo-Japanese War, survivors of the Bakumatsu period, the Ainu, weird tattoos and guys being dudes? Hopefully this piqued someone's interest.
Would also really recommend Code Geass for this series but might be a bit to long with 2 seasons. But would love the jokes about the cursed alt history setting it's set in especially when the weird chinese federation shows up in season 2 (basically a weird mix of CCP and chinese monarchie
Code Geass' two seasons have less episodes than FMA:Brotherhood's single season, so I doubt it'd be too long if they're considering FMA.
Yall gotta do iron blooded orphans
My husband the Evangelion stan is of the incredibly strong opinion that we still need to do the movie... I'm assuming that's what you meant by "for now."
I've just finished rewatching the rebuilds for like the fourth time, and I think that any watch-through of NGE is incomplete without them as well. Anno's refusal to leave well enough alone is fascinating.
I should try again 86. I could not get past the women's uniform having a visible garterbelt...
On some level that's anime nonsense (which 86 is never entirely free from; see also the entire existence of Frederica as a character), but on another, it's an early signal that San Magnolia has more wrong with it than just the obvious ethnic discimination.
GitS-SAC fills the requirements for robots and for tom to get existential
When you need a break from doing a series, you guys ought to check out the two Patlabor films
FMA would we dope as hell
I don't really know any of these. But I voted for FMAB since everyone else did.
YES!!!!!!!! WATCH THE AWFULNESS THAT IS THE ATTEMPT TO COMBINE KUROSAWA AND MECHA!!!!!!!!!
Should do Code Geass
I don't know how long we can stand for this Macross erasure
Brotherhood!
FMAB is huge, but definitely a rewarding watch
Transformers Animated Show
Witch from Mercury when?
Thats whats I’m asking.
