Soochow was a small, racist dog adopted by US Marines stationed in China. They taught it to drink rum and coke from a bowl, eat cigarettes, and, most importantly, survive years in a Japanese POW camp.

Just a recommendation for Joe whenever he plans to do the full episode on WW2 Shanghai, there’s a book called Kings of Shanghai by Jonathan Kaufman which is a good book about the international settlement of Shanghai and the Jews escaping Nazi Germany that settled in Shanghai only to find themselves under Imperial Japanese control. Wild and very niche subject but worth covering in those future episodes.
