Janis Joplin was from Port Arthur. Galveston is the place where a quick lube assistant manager from Plano, Texas takes his family for a vacation.
As a San Antonian (7th gen), I can provide chaotic content on all of this. But remember the Alamo….
Ok. This episode induced me to become a paid Patreon member. Texas Forever…
As someone who spent years in military aviation… I earned my Microsoft Suite Combat Action Badge.
55:20~ Random drunk geologist here. Simply put what you smell is sulfur. Wonderful place to study pollution, and to try and come up with ways to mitigate impact. Now will anyone care? Fuck no 😂
As a Texan, and multi generational Texan on my fathers side— we have never learned anything ever, and we will just reflexively do whatever the opposite of what someone wants or what is in our best interest. Also always shocked when it gets cold in winter.
Wait, what was the Alamo again? I forgot
Squares are one of the most Polish shapes.
When I used to work at a bbq restaurant I would leave my shity slip-proof croks outside of my parents house so that it wouldn’t smell like rancid pork fat inside the house. One day one went missing and I found it wedged under the fence in the hole that the raccoons who lived in our neighbor’s yard used to get back and forth. If it was just a little smaller they might have had a shoe dinner
I'm normally a fan of foxes, but I've come to dislike them recently because they killed and ate a local cat and left it's head in our yard. Don't let your cat be an outdoor pet.
Bit did they find the bike in the basement? Asking for Large Marge, she sent me.
I can’t forgive you for making me google fox mating sounds. 😂
I am choosing to picture Robert Evans as going down with a machete in one hand and some gas station pills in the other.
His name coming up/the Highlander reference made me imagine him charging through all of the wars of the 19th/20th centuries like the beginning of one of those shitty Wolverine movies
As a native Texan and survivor of 7th grade Texas history and the Sesquicentennial of the Texas Revolution, all I can say is “RIP Ozzy Osbourne”
Does the BRC follow Hank Hill thought?
A fox achieving orgasm sounds just like a Five Nights at Freddy's jumpscare
It's gonna rule when the US armed forces don't function anymore because our drunk ass secretary of war fired all the logistics guys for not being able to do 100 pushups and run a ten minute mile
Fox Bowling Alley fucking killed me on my train home.
Hey Joe, tip for Part 4: As a Texan that grew up just a mile from where the Battle of San Jacinto was fought, I must point out you cannot pronounce "Jacinto" as if you were a Spanish speaker. You have to say "Juh-cinto" cause that's what everyone around here says, it wasn't until I was a full grown adult that I first heard it pronounced the "correct" way. All of the schools/businesses/etc that invoke it also say in the Texan way. (Side note, Anahuac is pronounced "Anna-whack", but I'm a little late on that one).
This is what happens when cows get ideas. https://youtu.be/FQMbXvn2RNI?si=p8zx09uEZnNT4F3B
Rest up Nate. And take heart, the early childhood diseases will let up eventually
Being super brutal to scare your enemy out of fighting is one of those zombie ideas that somehow never dies despite it not only never actually working but often doing the exact opposite of what it's supposed to
Cannot express how refreshing it is to hear this story told as history rather than propaganda.
Listening to Nate on fatherhood is so funny to me because I have a daughter like 6ish months older than his and listening to his stories is like listening to my own fatherhood journey parallel six months behind just without French.
Lmao my daughter has that click clack moo book. It's cute.
There are sequels if you're looking for new material. Source: my mother is a preschool teacher so I am always hearing about the latest developments in children's literature
The screaming foxes remind me of when I was in Australia and first heard kookaburras and koalas going off at 3am.
Oh boy the alamo. This is was something I hoping you guys since I visit San Antonio last year. So here some thing that surprised me of the alamo musuem. One it was just in downtown San antonio. Like the hotel I stay was near it. Speaking as someone who live in the pacific northwest, usually all those forts you have to go into forset just to see them. The second more funny and stranger one is that one narratioring all the exhibits of the alamo stuff was Phil Collins of all people. Because he really like the Davy Crockett mini-series from the 1950s. It was really strange
The Spanish "rank the breeds" artifacts are also strange because 25% of it was also "look, If you mix a black with an Indian you get a lobo (wolf), isn't that cool?' And because essentially none of that was codified into law, specially in the metropoli, it was just something criollos liked. Which I guess isn't much different from early race science but starting a century earlier and never making its way out directly.
Everything I've ever heard about the history of Texas makes me think of the state as "What if we started an entire society based on a population entirely made up of people with oppositional defiant disorder?"
Jim Bowie: We are willing to die at this position! Texan govt: Then perish.
What was that thing I had to remember? Ah, it must not have been that important.
Foxes come with black forces already on. Truly natures thieves
The thing I like to say when it comes to conservative politicians in Texas is that they should not only remember the Alamo but also *commemorate* the Alamo, by, you know… Presidente Santa Anna, my country, it yearns for freedom!
I grew up in Texas. Heard all about the Alamo. Can’t wait to learn about how everything my grandpa told me was bullshit.
On the one hand, they died in order to uphold slavery. On the other hand, they died so that a bunch of pro-slavery psychos would be, well, dead. So who’s to say which is more important? The convenient thing about martyrdom is that martyrs are at least personally not making trouble anymore…
