Fort Polk and Fallout mention! I didn't know this was a mikeburnfire colab (joking) Seriously though, what a hellish boat. Utterly cursed
And now the Kuznetsov is gonna be scrapped. How will they deal with the SCP鈥檚 of the bottom decks!
Happy fun ball, peak SNL
Aw Nate, just wait til kindergarten.
Sometimes called the "govnetsov" ~ "the little shitty"
袦邪褌褜 is a wonderful thing
I'll be honest, when I was 4, I wanted to be an aircraft carrier when I grew up
Quinn dropping "sometimes I like to cover myself in mazut and pretend I'm a slug" is one of the most donk episode endings I've ever heard
New Drake bar: I'm so covered in mazut bitches call me baron Harkonnen
The Kuznetsov is the world's largest marine chariot.
I'm not saying that Nate CAN'T talk about getting sick from his baby, but every time I hear him mention it (it's only been two or three times) I'm just like "YEAH, WE KNOW. PARENTS ALWAYS GET SICK FROM THEIR BABIES. It like, never doesn't happen."
This episode went off the fuckin rails soooo many times and i love it!!!!
The contempt from Nate and Joe with "Did you just say 'bazinga'?! YOU'RE FIRED!" Made me giggle
Y鈥檃ll should get the guys from Beyond The Breakers on for a Big Dumb Ship story. Something like the Texas Tower collapse. It even has (the fear of) Soviets!
Fluoride, assuming it's not in a harmful compound (PFAS etc), is good for your teeth tho PFAS being an example of bad fluoride chemicals
Okay so it is good as a dental treatment and there was a bunch of conspiracism about it started by the John Birch society but there is some evidence that it can bioaccumulate and interfere with melatonin production in the body, reducing sleep quality. So it's possible it's better to like get the treatment and then rinse your mouth really good rather than having it in drinking water. I sort of hate that those fuckers were even slightly right about anything but there you go.
Jeezus stick something in Nate鈥檚 mouth holy shit 馃ぃ馃馃 (love you Nate )
Love my favorite podcast where every episode is either about a genocide or a big dumb boat
There鈥檚 an island like 40 miles off the coast of Canada that鈥檚 part of France and has people living on the island.

It could be worse, my parents held my niece (I forget how old she was) and both got a horrendous case of hand foot and mouth disease. My niece got it from her daycare and was barely sick at all.

When you really fuck up your tech tree on a Hearts of Iron game but you're 80% through the campaign and you can't stop now
You can always have a small dumb boat. I was assigned to a Coast Guard ship in Miami Beach in 2009. The LCS, USS FREEDOM, came into port, left on a Monday afternoon. After becoming completely confused by the wind and current, the FREEDOM tore up the Coast Guard pier and backed into us. In fine South Florida parking lot rules, they used our ship as a pivot and left town without a word.
Joe pronouncing Slavic words is always a treat
Ah I'm a marine engineer: bunker c (or heavy fuel oil) was still common on commercial ships up until 2020 when the IMO reduced the maximum Sulphur content of exhaust gasses to 0.5%. A lot of ships use a more refined fuel now that has paraffin wax in it since the engines were designed for the viscosity of HFO, but it can still be used if a scrubber is installed (I'm pretty sure, the last few ships I've been on just run regular diesel). It's a pain to use in diesel engines, but steam plants are pretty happy with whatever you burn in them.
Doomed ships week!
Aww I wanted to hear about the Irving's.... 馃榿
so nate talking about getting sick inspired me to call my mom and ask if we made her and dad sick back in the day. apparently me and my twin brother got sick like double digit times when we were young and they would get like 8 of those ilnesses, however when they had my younger brother they didnt gget sick so you should get used to it i guess?
I don鈥檛 have to drive as much with my new job. But the moment I saw an episode on the steam belching pride of the garbage navy I just had to re-up.
The story about "they thought the atomic bomb might ignite the atmosphere" is mostly just urban legend. What actually happened is that Teller briefly thought that might happen, but they checked his calculations and realized that he was just bad at math. Teller would later go on to do such things as the Castle Bravo detonation (which was three times bigger than expected) and Operation Plowshare (a.k.a. "what if we used nukes to dig canals?"), so... y'know... not famous for making good decisions.
Teller was a vindictive bastard too - never forgave Oppenheimer for opposing the super
This might be most cursed vessel to ever float
Love Failure to Launch, so excited to hear Quinn's soothing voice
FUCKING IRVING. All my homies hate the Irving鈥檚
I love lions episodes about ships.
Jamie Kennedy is the actor Nate's thinking about from Three Kings
I believe it's fair to say that the Kuznetsov is unsinkable because it will break down before it ever leaves port.
This reminds me of the S茫o Paulo, the Brazilian aircraft carrier. Made by the french in the 60s, bought by Brazil in the 2000s to replace the Minas Gerais, a WWII British aircraft carrier we had bought in the 50s. The S茫o Paulo never spent more than a few months on water before needing to go back to maintenance for years, mostly served as a place to train pilots and to show off the "naval power" of the Brazilian Navy. there's actually a funny story about it's decommissioning and eventual scuttling. the navy retired it in 2017, and officially decommissioned it in 2018, after it spent most of the 2010's docked due to a fire. it was supposed to be scrapped by a Turkish company in 2022, but a Lawyer in Brazil made an entire foundation around transforming the ship into a museum, and started a legal fight with the navy over the ownership of the S茫o Paulo. at some point, concerns were raised that the ship still had asbestos on it from when it was built, and the Turkish company decided not to buy/scrap it anymore, sending the ship back to Brazil. after a very weird legal discussion around it, which included the Lawyer starting a campaign to gather funds to buy the aircraft carrier from the navy (which was very clear in saying they do NOT wanted to sell it or turn it into anything that was not scrap) it was towed to the port of Suape, in Pernambuco, Brazil, but the port refused the ship, not allowing it to dock, on concerns it would be abandoned there and/or sink. it stayed floating just off the coast for some months, while the legal battle ensued, until in 2023, the navy simply decided to sink it and be done with it, against direct legal orders that they should not do that, possibly sinking tons of asbestos and the hopes of one weird dude of having his own museum.
BIG DUMB BOATS never disappoint.
Waving my giant foam hand that says "BIG DUMB BOAT!"
we love a cursed boat don't we folks
Mazut: the all-purpose substance. Burn it for fuel and warmth! Use as a facial cleanser, body wash, shampoo and conditioner! Have mazut fights with your friends! Eat it with cereal!
Nate mentioning Dutch spelling after Liverpool FC announces Arne Slot as their new manager.
Any Russian navy associated episode is always the most crazy stuff you鈥檝e ever heard I swear
