Skyward Crossing

Up here, the air is thin. It's as if every breath takes more effort. That matters little for someone of such short stature as myself, but often I have accompanied the tall folk on travel through the archipelago of plateaus in the sea of sky, and they fare much worse than I do.

"Accompany" may be a misleading term, although I do make a point to engage in friendly conversation and provide advice, even a drink of water and a bite of food to someone in need. After all, why not lend a friendly hand when there's a good chance that if I wait it out, at some point my traveling companion will gasp for breath after overexertion at such an altitude to the point in which they collapse?

At that point I feel it's my duty to lighten their load so they can continue their journey when they come to and regain their senses. Just the heavy things. Gold, trinkets, perhaps some provisions to replace my stock. After all, they are struggling up here above the clouds.

It's a good thing that the traveling tall folk have me to watch out for them! My purse strings would tend to agree...
