Upcoming Patreon Billing Changes - What you need to know

Hey all!

You may have already heard about this from other creators, but Patreon is making some changes to how memberships work and I wanted to give you all a heads-up about what this means for Fantasy Atlas.

Patreon is discontinuing the per-creation billing system, which I've been using since I started Fantasy Atlas in 2019 and it's now requiring creators to move over to a monthly subscription model instead.

The change is expected to happen over the coming month, although Patreon hasn't given me an exact date for the switch just yet.

What does this mean for existing patrons?

First and foremost, if you're already supporting Fantasy Atlas, you won't be paying any more than you currently do! Nothing will change for you.

Your existing membership pricing and monthly spending limits will be honoured when Patreon makes the switch. So, whether you've set a limit of one, two or three map packs per month, that limit will be taken into account and your monthly charges won't change.

You'll also continue to receive all the same maps, variations and other goodies that come with your current tier. Nothing is changing on that front!

So, you don't need to do anything. Patreon will automatically migrate your membership over to the new system, keeping your existing pricing intact.

The only thing I'd suggest is avoiding cancelling your membership or switching tiers after the change to monthly billing, as doing so will mean losing your existing pricing. If something like this happens to you, reach out to me and I'll find a way to put you on your old pricing, I appreciate your long running support and will always honour that to the best of my ability.

So, what's actually changing?

For anyone new joining Fantasy Atlas after the switch, memberships will work a little differently.

Rather than pledging a certain amount per map pack and choosing how many you'd like to support each month, new patrons will subscribe at a fixed monthly price based on their chosen tier.

I personally think it's a shame to lose the flexibility that per-creation billing offered, particularly the ability for patrons to choose how much they wanted to contribute each month.

But unfortunately I don't have any choice in the matter, I'm just making sure the transition has as little impact as possible on those of you who've already been supporting my work.

Anything else?

That's about it for now!

In the meantime, I'll carry on making maps as usual and hopefully this will all happen quietly in the background without you even noticing.

As always, thank you all for your continued support. It's what allows me to keep creating these maps, and being able to grow and improve as a creator and an artist. I really do appreciate it. :)

If you've got any questions or concerns about the changes, please feel free to ask me in the comments!
