August 2026 Book Update: Lock, Suggest & Conduct, plus an Odyssey Siren song inspired patch
Dear WaveShapers!
New chapters are kind of like Patreon-only videos, and this month we've got a whole new chapter plus a cool little synth trick inspired by the Siren's song in Nolan's Odyssey, so it's like a video plus a bonus short!
The main new chapter this month is called "Lock, Suggest, and Conduct", and it's about assistive chord and melody tools. Not Generative AI, otherwise, the chapter would have been called "outsource"... but rather, a compilation and classification of tools that help you come up with harmonic and melodic ideas, and assist you with multi-synth setup performances and jams.
The book has already dealt with "generative music" setups, meaning systems that play on their own based on several rules. Some of the tools mentioned appear there as well as in other parts of the book, such as the sequencer section. The idea here is to consolidate everything from a composition point of view and introduce a few tools not mentioned yet, right after the discussion of music theory, to explore tools that can help us on our journey coming up with and putting together ideas.
To be clear, diving into these in detail would require not just one video or one chapter; it would probably take a whole book. So, rather, this is a collection of ideas and apps classified by type with links for exploration and recommended starting points. All that starts on Page 384, or just search for the term AUG2026 to skip between the updates.
Then the quick journey into the Siren's song starts on page 181 - if you dare!
That's it for now. As usual, but never taken for granted, thanks for being here.
All my best,
Ziv / Loopop
