“Ladies and gentlemen…”

Orin Kelly stood behind a curtain, the production assistant breathing down his neck as the big man gripped the clipboard like it was the only thing that meant anything in the world. Maybe this wasn’t the best idea.

The thought had been running around in his head for a while now, actually, the last week or so consisting of a view variants of that after he signed the documents. The moment he had the pen in hand and put it to paper, he’d been thinking exactly that — mostly because he wasn’t entirely sure his identity was active yet.

When Celia wasn’t calling his burner confused and he started seeing the ads and billboards going up around Times Square talking about an ‘exclusive interview’, Orin had brushed it off like it was nothing for the most part.

Then Vicky had been the one to call his burner.

Which was weird, mostly because he hadn’t given her the number.

The SHIELD agent had just been calling to give him an update on his documents which were pretty much already established due to the priority nature of his situation. Orin had simply blinked while he was on the phone with the woman, something off with her voice, and he had definitely wondered what was going on with her but the woman didn’t seem to actually get to the point until he hung up.

…It’s probably cause of this interview. It didn’t take long to put that together, SHIELD probably not wanting him to talk about things, but he didn’t really see the big deal in the first place. Not like anyone would give a shit anyway. He’d noticed how the people didn’t seem to care all that much when flying robots had been going around killing random civilians because of their genetics.

That had apparently gone on for a few months last year, before during and after 9/11 and the government treated like it was normal because, apparently, all mutants were terrorists because ‘Magneto was scary’.

And the people were fine with that too, everybody so scared that they didn’t fuss about ‘civil rights’ or ‘human rights’ or anybody’s rights at all.

Which meant the odds that they would really fuss about his seemed pretty low. I swear, this world feels like Injustice or something.
