POLL: The Volume of Spiritual Burrito
While I was really goddamn sick, and had no idea why (still don't), it started occurring to me that, well ... my age, my episodes of truly revolting alcoholism, the junkie years, the having-to-quit-the-junkie-years (those probably never end), the really astonishing list of psychiatric medications, the MRIs and ultrasounds and X-rays that said nothing – this "sickness" might just be, you know, it.
Stomach cancer, liver or kidneys dying, neurological damage one place that shows up in a different place – using & kicking any kind of junk changes the visible, physical fuckin' structure of your nervous system. It may shock you to learn that those changes are poorly understood and receive nearly no research funding. Fuck a junkie, right. That was the whole POINT of the project.
So I began to consider the I would be ashamed not to have done, if I was really about to die (I'm not doing any fucking chemotherapy), and I was surprised by how often I thought And you never even did the goddamn music show, not really, and you left however-many people without the information, the language, the poetics that would've let them see and hear and imagine new things in MUSIC, the only fucking good thing in the fucking awful world. You left them without music.
When I tried Echo's Bones, I thought it should be a distinct entity, but now I suspect that was a mistake. Just running the fuckin' thing was part of what made it untenable.
I am still, in the medical terminology devised by Malcolm Lowry, wibberly-wobberly, so it wouldn't be immediate, but I wanted to ask this before the future, which is a place I revile:
WHAT (hear that as Neil Hamburger) would you think about
• the same $5 for this show, exactly like it's always been, a DEATH/CORNER every other week and odd bits of specialized ejectamenta
• $10 per month for 1) D/C as always, and 2) music & sound episodes in the non-D/C weeks, so at least twice as much stuff – you think I can talk now, shit, I will truly fuck around and do 9 hours on a specific decade of Fender history
• a separate $5 if you only want the music/sound episodes – I'm not sure if Patreon lets you make 2 subscriptions for the same price, so it might be $4.97 or $5.02 or something, whichever nearby number I find funniest at the time
There should be a cowboy character actor, toned upper body, huge ass, named Slim Thiccens.

If anyone can produce a convincing likeness of Henry Ford, J.G. Ballard, R. Kelly and Rob Zombie in a sex-coded automobile jamming to Windowlicker, we have our new Night At The Roxbury
I read "Windowlicker" first as "Wickerman" and frankly I prefer the idea of the Iron Maiden song
Echos Bones was such a cool idea. I think I only cancelled my Patreon to that a month ago. I feel a bit burned by that. It’s not the money, honestly. I just wish you could throw in music episodes into the D/C rotation because they’re so interesting and enjoyable. But as for the poll question: I feel like paying an extra $5 won’t result in extra content, ultimately. And it’s not a big deal. I don’t think you should sacrifice your health to give us content. But you put up the poll so I wanted to voice that I am bummed that Echos Bones lost out because I’m a huge fan of your musical discussions.
I think I figured out why & how that didn't work, & I'm gonna announce an expansion-type thing that will hopefully do what EB couldn't
I'd fuck fuck with the Music Pod over Around the Corner, I'll never recover from some of that shit.
i don't listen to all d/c episodes, though i've been listening since shout engine...but music absolutely is everything, so i'm all in for echo's bones
Aww man I voted before reading to the sexy Honda option
I wouldnt even watch the music show until maybe 5 years from now when I have my premature mid-life crisis (which I will definitely have in my early 30s) and start listening to all this old shit, but I'll pay for it anyways. Do whatever you want and I'll just give you the money
3 shows and one is basketball 🏀 (i will vote for two for now it is wibs wobs season)
(basketball is you liz and bro judge naturally)
I'd pay $500 for a series of episodes on all the things you find most beautiful in this world. You expressed deep, exceedingly rare reverence for Fred Rogers once, years ago. I want to know who and what else falls under this category and why. Also please don't be dying, not yet. There's plenty of time for that when you're not my age.
Will listen & subscribe to whatever you put out, but specifically would love more Beatles / McCartney episodes!
I’ll subscribe to whatever you put up, but the 4th option is the obvious answer
Do whatever you feel my dude
Yes & would pay for more unpublished writing
Multiple tiers (one for every year he's away)! Tell us whatchya see thru the yella windows of the evening train... Still subscribed to Echo's Bones so this will merely provide me with the opportunity to re-allocate that $5 like I was a fancy investor. There's no rush, but know that I'm cleaning my monocle in anticipation of being able to purchase those Southern Pacific shares.
Also, Slim Thickens was my porn name.
More music content in any format. Been slim pickins for slim thiccens
I have no idea what the bones thing is, but to be honest and I love your work. Youre one dude and chapos like 4-6 ppl and for the $5bucks they create multiple quality series on top of the main episodes. If you create like a, oh i dunno electronic music history 5-10 pack of episodes itd pay for that one time. Like matts presidents thing or whatever it was i bought. But ive been trying to trim down the numerous monthly subs. If you wanna charge $10 for the show itd pay for it. But optionally paying extra for stuff that largely goes over my head, like your love of bowie. Meh.
Not sure if you're familiar with Radio War Nerd's subscription model, I know you're a listener but not whether creators subscribe to each other the same way we do, but they charge by the episode rather than strictly monthly. If they post two in a month it's $10, only one it's $5. As someone to whom *circumstances occur* pretty frequently, something resembling that flexibility might make more sense for your show than committing again to regular extra output.
Would love them both. Keep bringing the gnosis. ✌️
For the record I voted for the sexual thugs in the shaven Honda but that’s just cause I don’t really have any plans for the weekend yet.
I just re-subscribed to E/B because I accidentally deleted the episodes I had downloaded. Really really loved it and felt like it was the exact kind of show I needed, and couldn’t find much similar elsewhere (though if you have recommendations I’d love to hear them.) That said, I’d prefer no new E/B at all if making it requires you to sacrifice your body and mind to the great Moloch of podcast content. Is what you’re proposing much different than the original release schedule of both shows?
Loved the MUSIC episodes!!! w all the little known factoids, background info and associations ~ wider-context music streams, have learned a LOT as well as enjoyed them… I'd do both…
the extra tier for the additional episodes sounds like a great idea and a lot more manageable than a fully separate show! and you know I'll pay extra to get all your work. I'll unsubscribe to someone else if I have to
I’d say keep going just out of spite.
Minority opinion here- I love your D/C work and it has contributed fundamentally to how I see and understand the world in a lot of way. Your music pieces though are too esoteric for me and I struggle to understand what you are talking about. I usually just skip those episodes.
that's part of the idea; the music stuff would be a different subscription tier
I think I'd prefer one show that's a little bit of both. I personally don't like it when things are divided up, because you really could do that forever until every discrete thing is in its own little container, which I guess is kinda how things are now. I think it'd be more interesting to easily see your existing catalogue of work set next to whatever else it is you feel like doing. Maybe just do alternating weeks or whatever.
Isn't that exactly what I just described
There's a reason why people love you, you cocksucker. MSJ forever.
everybody loves you when you're suckin' the cock
I’m still subscribed to E/B and happy to do so along with D/C. Both are fantastic and am rly missing E/B
i'd pay for the music show (again). i loved echo's bones.
Heya... it's you?! The 'Mountain Goats YouTube Dude/Dudette'?
I'd only be able to afford one but i would LOVE you to do echo's bones or something like it again. I cancelled my subscription for it but you or someone else should put you hendrix series on youtube. He was the first music i got into and those episodes where a flipping revelation. It takes James Marshall Hendrix away from the cartoon heritage hendrix. Also, please do the beatles and coltrane! And the pretty things or the move.
Also, not sure if it's your thing but loving this Marvin Gaye instrumental this week: https://youtu.be/e56CdS3IDGc?is=W-gYXYw0j6dMqkPI
Good luck with your patter whatever you decide to do. And there is an old rule I always follow when creating owt (I'm old, like in my 50s): if you enjoy doing something then do it, it's that simple & never labour under the assumption that something is "important" enough for it to be an utter ballache.
2nd option with the caveat that i would pay for both if i had the finances welcome to team "fk no i ain't getting no fkn chemo" we've been expecting you
