Which Hemingway should I review next?

Hello everyone! Wanted to get your opinion if you'd be so kind.

Of the three Hemingway titles below, which would you most like to see a review of next?

Thanks!

Really, Cliff, you should read all of them.

Another interesting article on The Sun Also Rises: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/sep/22/100-best-novels-sun-also-rises-ernest-hemingway-robert-mccrum

Death in the Afternoon (the bullfighting book) would be a good one too.

Cliff reviewed this one a while back. It was a particularly good review.

Selfishly I will choose A Moveable Feast since it's the only one I have not read yet and I can try to read along. I really enjoyed the other two however. Can't go wrong with Papa Hemingway.

Didn't read the The Sun Also Rises but very much appreciated Farewell to arms which I much enjoyed in my late 20's and which I read quite rapidly. A Moveable Feast, reminds me when I used to live in France . I vote for the latter as it's historically meanful as both Gatsby with his wife and Gertrud Stein and a few others lived there and I find it fascinating this period

The Sun Also Rises didn't really do much for me when I read it about 10 years ago, so I voted for it to hear your opinion and possibly prompt myself to give it another shot.

I always wanted to read a book from Ernest Hemingway and I heard about The Sun also Rises but I did not know which one to read so for you to review this book would be a treat!!

I just finished The Sun Also Rises and loved it. Admittedly it’s my first Hemingway, but I’d still love a review on it

My personal favorite is _For Whom the Bell Tolls_ but _A Farewell to Arms_ was my introduction to Hemingway and I devoured that book in high school. One of the books that got me into reading.

As much as I want to see a review on Movable Feast, A Sun Also Rises is one of my favorite books.

I see that The Sun Also Rises is leading in the polls. Here's a link to an interesting article with author Amor Towles in which he mentions the novel (he provided an introduction to a recent penguin deluxe edition of The Sun Also Rises): https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/23/books/review/amor-towles-by-the-book-interview.html In the introduction Towles sums up the book as 'a novel of unpleasant people behaving unpleasantly'.

Thanks for sharing that. I read my first Towles last year (Lincoln Highway) and will be reading more soon.

I’m currently reading A Farewell To Arms so yeah THAT’S my Vote.

I think A Farewell to Arms is arguably the greatest American novel of the 20th Century.

I'd choose A Moveable Feast also. Not only are there a lot of descriptions of his contemporaries, there is something about his descriptions of places and areas that I had been to in Paris and relating them to my own experiences.

G

I'd choose A Moveable Feast, just for Hemingway's description of Fitzgerald alone: 'His talent was as natural as the pattern that was made by the dust on a butterfly’s wings...'etc After reading the book it might be a useful exercise perhaps to contrast and compare it with Orwell's experience of Paris during the same period in Down and Out in Paris and London.

Great suggestion, I've got both on the shelf. Thanks!
