Resetting an 8 hour boss fight because they got womped too hard is so petty. And I'm surprised the DM didn't lose their table.

I've only really retconned once and it was because one player hated how things happened. My players rescued an npc but to end the session on a cliffhanger i had the npc killed by one of the bbeg who was a deadly assassin. Only one player was pissed, but that's all it takes for me to consider what I did wrong.

to the dm who made their players replay a session cause they spent so much time making their monsters only for the party to womp them... poo on you. Having that happen to you as a DM is one of the first steps into becoming a real DM. Also, the dice just sometimes don't go in your favor making for an even bigger womp. Dude, the one about not caring about established lore, i relate so deeply. I joind a campaign where the DM is SUPER into the established Forgotten Realms lore, and he's trying to include as much as he can. But i don't know (or care about) anything about Forgotten Realms lore beyond what was in BG3. He sent us a 4-page bulleted list of historical events our characters should know about, and it is dense as hell. Way too many names that are way too long, and way too complicated. I can't even pretend to care about it, because I don't understand it. We've gotten more than one puzzle where the solution depending on remembering things like the origins of holidays in Waterdeep, and which of Karsus' allies betrayed him thousands of years ago and stuff like that. I just let our wizard and cleric of Ogma handle everything having to do with history and hope he never gives me anything that depends on my bard remembering some ancient song of a god or something.

So, early on, around 07:00, they say they'd hear a guy falling from a plane, and I regret to inform that, unless the guy was alive and screaming, no, you wouldn't hear it. Of course you'd see them if you looked up, and might be able to dodge, but all you hear is a soft whoosh. We hear the wheeeeoooo *boom* of mortar rounds in military shows and think that's what they're like, but that only happens when the mortar is traveling past you.

The DM having the corpse deal max falling damage on impact is crazy. Falling damage is based on how bad it is for your body to hit the ground, not how much damage the ground takes… A corpse shouldn’t do 20d6 as a projectile!

It is kind of funny to drop a corpse on someone, but like Emily said you gotta have like a roll to see if it even happens. I had a campaign arc in a magical storm and any time my players stayed still for a second a had a random one roll to see if they were struck by lightning. No one ever was but just suggesting it was funny enough and I think that applies here too
