Beyond Rest Anywhere — Realistic Rain

When I started this Patreon, I promised it wouldn’t be focused only on Rest Anywhere — and I intend to keep that promise.

At the same time, I’m working on several other mods. I’ve already mentioned some of them, like the Used Trailer Market and country-specific AI Traffic Addons for different parts of Europe.

But there’s one more project I’ve been spending quite a lot of time on lately.

Rain.

For a long time, I’ve been annoyed by the fact that rain in ETS2 doesn’t really reduce visibility in a convincing way. Most of what you see on the windshield comes down to scattered droplets.

I know there are mods that improve this to some extent, but I wanted more.

I wanted the windshield to actually look wet — with a thin mist of water reducing visibility, droplets behaving with their own physics and reacting to airflow, and small channels forming where water flows down the glass and creates gaps between the droplets.

That last part is still something I haven’t managed to get right, and I’m honestly getting close to giving up on it.

The goal is to create something that looks almost photorealistic, but I keep running into the limitations of the game engine.

We’ll see how far I can push it over the next few weeks.

It's definitely the best looking rain in ETS2/ATS, is that sound of drops on the cabin a mod too? It's very satisfying :D I use weather mods so I don't even know if it's the original sound anymore.

To be honest, the sound of the raindrops could be coming from a few different mods on my end. **Sound Fixes Pack** or **PNG** are probably the most likely ones :)

Press **F9** to open the rest menu, choose the break duration, then confirm with **F8**. To do this, the ignition must be off, the truck must be stationary, and the parking brake must be engaged.
