Weekly progress report
Hello guys! This was almost the most productive week we'd ever had, but my grandma broke her hip and we ended with a pretty decent work week for the game instead of a great one. We goot movement in both 2D images and a lot of changes in the game itself. Aside from all that I'll have a poll next week, I know the topic but I'm thinking on the options, so it will be up at some point next week.
As always we start with the 2D, having Erica finished we started with more NPCs. In this case we got a enemy ready and we started working on a librarian, since both are smaller characters they take about a week to 10 days. I also got Luna's first draft yesterday, she needed some smaller changes, but aside from that everything is going smoothly on the 2D stuff.
For the game side of things as you know I have been working on the mall a lot, but I have been fixing a lot of previous stuff too which is harder to show in 1 picture, so I'll start for the general stuff and then talk about the chapters separately.
For the general stuff, the big changes is in the animation side of things. I created a new animation set for enemies with handguns, aside from the "manor guard" one. So the gun cultist and the new enemy got that animation set. The mistery girl got their animations too, so she takes notes and leave instead of looking at the void and leaving. Catalina got added as an actual character, which took a bit more because her "personal skill" had a dice roll included and when it rolls a 0, she attacks herself which was a bit harder than I first though. The idea for Catalina is that she get overpoewered skills but cast something at random and might backfire, as you progress with her the maximum number she can roll in her skill grows so is harder to get 0 and she gets even stronger skills. Aside from that I changed the "accept" sound to something that's isn't that loud as the old one.
For episode 1, there was a scene where the party finds a radio from the cultists, listen in and there is a chance for them to interact. The thing is that scene was hard to follow because there wasn't a sprite for the cultists, a radio model and in the original version there wasn't even a radio sound! The radio sound was added on v0.1.2, but now I added some cultist sprites that are transparent and with different colors, because there were 3 different cultists talking over the radio so without sprites it was harder to follow and with Erica looking at a desk the scene was harder to follow! So I added a tablet which makes everything easier to follow, Erica is looking at a tablet and we got audio messages from 3 distinct persons each with a different color.
So, for episode 2 which is where most of the work went. Last week I added these walking NPCs, but there was some bugs with their visibility so I fixed that. I added music for the mall and some other events. I created the enemy and added him to the game. Got more NPC variety into the game, because the map is big and it's a big walkable area unlike the town for V0.1 that had srteets. I ended up changing the maping a bit more and adding some glass to the stores and now it looks more like a place and less like a placeholder. For now there are few stores that are complete and just one actual shop for the player, of course I'm not aiming for you to buy stuff at every store, but it would be weird to be in the mall and not have a single store for you to buy stuff in.
As you can see there was a lot of work made this week. For my grandma's part, since Wednesday I have been going to the hospital to check on her and my mom. I'm not sure how long this will last, because there is a high chance that she'll die soon but I'll let you know the parts that affect the development.
