Sorry to be the one to have to make this comment, but you guys had the bit about Buckaroo Bonsai wrong. The corporation run by the evil aliens in that movie was called Yoyodyne Industries. Which of all things was actually a Pynchon reference. IIRC In The Crying of Lot 49, Yoyodyne Industries is the name of a company that's losing out on some shady military-industrial contracts and the protagonist first gets hints about the secret conspiracy of the book when she stumbles into one of their conferences.

Mecha as a concept has a long history, originating with the power armor in Heinlein's Starship Troopers. The term mecha itself comes from post-war Japan. メカ (meka) being a shortened form of the english word mechanical. In 1979 the cartoon Mobile Suit Gundam first aired which popularized the notion of giant human piloted robots that are an analogue to tanks or other modern war machines. The show's creator cited the power armor in Starship Troopers as an influence. Sometime in the 80's the term メカ was transliterated back into anglo as Mecha and refers to giant robots with human pilots. And from there, Mecha Adolph.

the way the alleged jewish interest lobby handled Musk is making it intentionally 100% sure that no one is ever going to take antisemitism seriously ever again. It's not even a recent thing they should have had his ass on a permanent shit list at least 8 years ago. It's disgusting, transparent, everyone understands 100% what's going on, no one is fooled, and it's paving the road wide and clear for actual 4chan death eater tropes to come back in full swing in the mainsteam public. It's utterly disgusting. I'm not even jewish and it makes me want to kill myself

In college I first heard about the Christian god as having spent it's early history as a god of victory in battle (in hoc signo vincit for example, maybe the first) and this supposedly lasted for centuries, so I really don't know when the Prince of Peace stuff starts or if that was a big contradiction that they had since the beginning. Like, did they only start doing the peace talk to convince peasants to follow Jesus instead of impaling their masters?

That Sodom & Gomorrah excerpt forms part of the basis for a concept in mystical Judaism called the lamed vav tzadikim, "the 36 righteous ones" – some kabbalists and the more mystic-friendly forms of Hasidim believe that the world keeps existing only because, at any given time, there are 36 people who are good enough to convince Yahweh that He should allow humanity to survive. These 36 people have no idea that they're THE 36 people, the lamed vavniks, and one of the ways to discern a vavnik, if you think you may know one, is that anybody who talks about being one, ever, under any circumstances, is full of shit

Raccoons are fucking vile creatures, they carry horrifying diseases, their shit is toxic and has to be removed by professionals, more than 10% of them have airborne brain parasites in their shit, and anything they want, they'll try to take, over and over and over. I must teach my fellow man that possums (technically "opossums," but I've never heard anyone say that) are wonderful, smart, helpful, harmless creatures, and raccoons are god damn sons of bitches

I'll go to bat for raccoons, I like em, but the one time I encountered one I was smart enough to deal with it by getting the cat inside and closing the door Mfer put his nose up to the glass with me on the other side, those fuckers aren't scared of anything

It's really depressing, but the reprisals against Afghan refugees in Iran aren't suprsing at all. There's a lot of racism against Afghan Hazara in Iran (because they looks "Asiatic") and the goverment never treated them particularly well either (including using them as essentially canon fooder in Syria). Wouldn't suprise me if some of them were actually bought of by the Israelis either, there's gotta be a lot of resentment in that community.

B
Bryan Nicholson · July 12, 2025

I wondered whether the afghan refugees in Iran were from the Hazara community. Didn’t the Americans also have connections with them too?

I used to work in the private equity team at the Boston Consulting Group - I am not surprised to hear that at all. They probably called the deck "Palestinian revised & updated housing approach," or some Orwellian thing. Also, I believe 10% of our revenue was from the federal government, so absolutely... where there's smoke there's fire. I wouldn't believe any of those reports (having worked on a few of them). This is also why the whole "Big Balls" data collection is so concerning. I wouldn't be surprised if they drafted a Net Present Value (NPV) estimate for each American citizen and will systematically destroy the least profitable cities... this is the type of work we'd be tasked with performing.

In the early 20th century, a psychologist by the name of Lawrence Cole began a series of studies of raccoons. His findings were incredibly advanced for their time, and what he found suggested that raccoons had a uniquely complex psychology that was more comparable to humans and other primates than animals they are more closely related too. His research was groundbreaking, but Cole was also the son of a Union army veteran and a staunch defender of the Union cause. "My father lost an arm as a Union soldier and I am very proud of that fact" This was very unpopular at the University of Oklahoma in 1908, and Cole lost his job. Cole was eventually able to return to teaching at a university level, but the idea of raccoons as subjects for research in psychology has never recovered. It's hard to overstate the effect that the Lost Cause myth and Slaver Apologism has had on the United States. If someone said to you "raccoons might be preferable as service animals to dogs for people with mobility related disabilities, but we don't know because of the Civil War" you'd assume they were a moron, but they'd be correct. There's a behind the bastards episode on Musk, and I think in it the host talks about Musk being booted from PayPal by peter thiel & co cuz he was insufferable to work with and wanted to name PayPal "X" lmao.

M
Michael S. Judge · July 12, 2025

He's tried to name a dozen entities "X." At first he wanted Paypal to be just X, the other "founders" said no (Elon was only a "founder" in a legal sense), so he tried to sell them on "PaypalX," and the unanimous response was "Are we making it a porn site?"

As a prowler of YouTube comments, specifically right wing ones (John is completely correct in that comments are beyond insightful), the divide between the elite and the "normies" on Israel is somewhat there with conservatives as well. At least Americans . Granted I think there's a caveat that it probably doesn't approach the majority, but that divide might explode with the recent Epstein news... you bought him up already but it's a huge deal that people like Tucker Carlson and MTG are so outspoken against Israel I know, mark, you mentioned how TC prefaces his critiques with "I support Israel". Which is true, but I didn't even know that because all the clips I saw of him were from "Breezy Politics" on YouTube. They're a great conglomeration of public discontent against Israel, a lot of it right wing. Comments there may be misleading since the people seeking it out are already negative against Israel. But the long story short of the conservative discontent is basically "Israel" is responsible for every stupid war and decision we've made and they're doing it again in Gaza and the other wars. Plus the other stuff about how deep down they've pushed the culture war, killed jfk, USS liberty, and other American first rhetoric. At the end of the day at least some are seeing the light, flawed as it is? But something to keep an eye on I guess

J
Jackm · July 11, 2025

In my experience a large pilotable bipedal robot is called a "mech," whereas "mecha-" as a prefix indicates a mechanical version that's often more powerful (and sinister) than the organic original. I'm basing this on Mechagodzilla and all the anime dubs I watched growing up. Could be wrong.

J
JoR · July 11, 2025

To answer your question, John - wouldn’t the Israeli religious justification simply be “none of the Palestinians are righteous”, even (or especially?) the children?
