Metachirality, Livestream, Lens, Update
Hello good humans!
1: Metachirality videos
So on Monday morning I was scheduled to start working on the Emmy Noether video script. Problem was, I was stressing about stuff and while there's some kinds of work I can push through when distracted, initial script work on a video that conceptually complicated is not one of those things.
So I decided to work on a different video, one a little more straightforward and that I figured I could finish in a week, given I already had the concept and a pile of notes for it. I've been thinking about doing a video on metachirality for a while, since it's a cool concept that very few people know about!
So I worked on that this week instead, and it turns out it's a 2-parter, and I should be able to finish the first video over the weekend. Expect a video on chirality on Monday! Or, not just chirality, but the subtleties of chirality that become relevant to understanding metachirality.
Then next week I'll do part 2, and then I'll feel good about having gotten a couple videos published and can get back to working on the longer project.
2: Livestream with M Eifler
In other news, M Eifler and I have decided to start a livestream podcast type thing, mostly as an excuse for us to hang out and chat art/tech/life together, with the first "episode" on Tues April 17th at 5pm west coast time, if all goes well.
As we figure things out the details might evolve, but for now we're making it $9.99+ patrons only. The episodes will probably mostly be archived, and we'll probably make some of them public or more accessible after the fact if we're comfortable with sharing everything we talked about to a wider audience, but we didn't want to constrain ourselves to only discussing things we're ready to share with a larger audience.
We'll see how it goes. Mostly I want the excuse to chat with M more regularly because they're the most brilliant person I know. (They have a Patreon too, here: https://www.patreon.com/blinkpopshift and if you're Lens fans, know that they post a lot of great Lens clips with art and stuff!)
3: Lens Update
Lens continues to be a bit buggy and I have to uninstall and reinstall my Patreon app to get it to work sometimes on the creation end, but I still really like it and how easy it is to use for me. My biggest bug is that sometimes clips just won't upload, or by the time they do it's out of order or hours later... but I'm gonna try to stick it out anyway!
I'm hoping more Patreon creators will use it so that checking Lens feels less like HERE ARE MY SPECIAL CLIPS WATCH THEM NOW OR LOSE OUT FOREVER and more like an optional casual "I wonder what my fav artists are up to today" type thing. It's good for artists if people care about us and can get a more real-time view into what it takes to do our work.
The email thing is still a problem! I'm still bothering Patreon about it.
4: General Update
I'm feeling a bit behind on things and still working on figuring out how to make it all work. My dream of taking weekends off was totally unrealistic, at least for now, but I'm still trying to be good about not working late into the evening, and it makes a big difference in my life! Actually, I'm gonna stop writing this update and go eat dinner like a human!

You should check out SoSonia: <a href="https://m.youtube.com/user/SOSoniaChannel." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://m.youtube.com/user/SOSoniaChannel.</a> She doesn't do math, but she does have a similar amazing-ness when it comes to art, just in a different way.
I get why you want to make the Lens videos casual optional missable, but you're totally undermining it by making must-see TV over there today,
Thank you :D
Was that one of those beetles with the metallic green undercarriage?
Nope, it's black all around. Not sure the species.
Yay for videos!
I think your fox/cat guys in the metachirality image look like the foxes Why the Lucky Stiff did for his Ruby books :-)
I have a hard time just with coordinate system conventions - EastNorthUp for ground robots, NorthEastDown for aviation/drones/water robots, RightDownForward for cameras, etc, etc - so I'm looking forward to metachirality
That sounds annoying! Graphics and 3d modeling software has the same problem.
My thing with Lens is the same with Instagram stories. I know it's not meant to be top quality content, but as a creator, it seems a waste to build something that will only exist for a day. But as a consumer, I can't always get time to check out "fun" things if I'm focused on my business, but if I don't go when i get the email, it probably won't be there if I check back later. Since I try to avoid distractions while working, that means I miss out. Maybe I'm unique in that, but wanted to put my vote in.
Yeah! There's definitely at least some folks who agree with you on that. I think part of it is that Lens is just a different medium from permanent Email-type things, and so having permanent emails about a non-Email-type thing is a mixed message. But even compared to a static permanent image it's amazing how casual and easy it is to make an impermanent little in-process video!
I really like the lens stuff so far, its really cool to see what you are up to. I'm glad you are finding ways to manage your time in a more normal way. Also, that podcast sounds really interesting, but I can't afford to watch it!
Thanks for the compliments on Lens! I'm hoping we'll figure out the podcast thing in a way that's unstressful with regard to audience ratio but also can be shared with a larger audience when we can. It's definitely a weird space to be in, where money pledges can serve a function of just keeping the one-to-many ratio at a more human level.
