Podcast 9: The Fires | with Prof. Michael E. Mann

[Apologies, reposting with correct links!]

Dear Patrons,

I hope you're having a beautiful Sunday.

If you don't have any plans this afternoon, may I suggest going outside for a 50 minute walk as you listen to our latest podcast, in which I chat about the topic of our latest Honest Government Ad with none-other than renowned climate scientist Michael E. Mann.

As you can see the caliber of our podcast guests is following the same trajectory as temperature and CO2 levels in a hockey stick graph.

I strongly believe that we need to be giving the mic to climate scientists more often, so we can amplify their voices.

That's why I'm really stoked to bring you an interview with Professir Michael E. Mann, co-author of the famous hockey stick graph (1998) - a key figure in establishing the reality of anthropogenic climate change. And also, due to his position at the forefront of climate science research, a lighting rod for climate deniers who have tried to discredit him in order to cast doubt over the science.

I was adamant that I didn't want this conversation to be stuck in the narrative of denial, as it often is. So for much of the podcast, we put all that aside and talk about the actual science - creating a space where we can actually move the conversation forward.

I found this SOOOO refreshing, and reassuring. I mean, yes of course, the content is alarming. But for some reason, I felt a wave of reassurance wash over whilst listening to Mann talk about the science. Perhaps it's because listening to scientists feels like such a sane thing to be doing right now.

I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as I enjoyed recording it.

This brings our coverage of the summer's fires to an end.

We've had an Honest Government Ad, which has had over 2M views across all platforms; a PG version for teachers and radio; and two podcasts, featuring a renewable energy/policy specialist and a world leading climate scientist.

All of which was supported entirely by YOU, our Patrons. So thank you for making this important work possible.

I'll catch you soon for our next Honest Government Ad.

Until then, take care.
Giordano

PS. Thank you for all the great feedback on our last podcast, Episode 8. If you missed it, you can find it here.

Make that a 90 minute walk!!

Hey Giordano, this was a great podcast - Michael Mann communicates these important ideas so clearly. It's wonderful that your Honest Govt Ads are becoming so widely known around the world and recognised for their powerful message - along with a dose of dark humour. Keep up the excellent work! :)

It's a bit of a mistake to think that Oz and the USA are the standouts in denial. Most of the western world are in denial . If you check the IPCC there is a little matter of equity. Cumulative emissions are ours. What is being proposed is window dressing. WASF.

You keep hitting winners guys :) Awesome the number of views you've received, hoping that it can shift a few people into a more active involvement in helping to offset all the shit we humans have dumped on this world of 'ours'... but of course the planet will do just fine by itself, even if it means eradicating all life forms and starting again :)

Thanks for that cheerful thought, Peter! :)

Funny you say that, that's exactly what I did this morning haha. The last two podcasts have been wildly insightful! Very good idea putting them on YouTube too, I like to listen to them on simple cast but this means I can post the YouTube links on comments on Facebook to support my comments on these matters 😁

There's no better way to enjoy a podcast than whilst being on the move! And I'm glad you approve of the decision to upload the pods also to YouTube - making it easier for people to access them is precisely the motivation behind that. I put quite a lot of effort into them, so it makes sense to get them heard as widely as possible
