Honest Government Ad | After the fires

Hello again Patrons, sorry for the double posting:

some of you have written asking why you can't click through to see the Honest Government Ad in our latest Patreon post, so am sending this out again with the links:

The reason you can't see the video is probably because you're not signed in to your Patreon account. I recommend staying signed in to Patreon so you can always click through to the post when you receive our notification email about a new video :)

Dear Patrons

Welcome to the first Honest Government Ad of the year - and the decade!

I really wanted to make this video in January. But as it turns out, it was good to wait until now to make it because it allowed me to focus on the Government’s official response to the catastrophic fires this summer: “get used to it”. I wish I were kidding.

Other than a quick mention at the start, I didn’t want to focus this video on the bullshit conspiracies about arsonists and “THe GrEeNs” which we saw going around the world (just like the smoke from our fires). Firstly because in 2020 I feel like we need stop allowing people who don't listen to scientists to waste the little precious time we have left. And secondly, because these claims have already been dealt with by journos and other satirists (kudos to the @Friendlyjordies team for their amazing coverage in particular).

What I did want to shine a light on is the sneaky way our Government is attempting to shift its rhetoric on climate, hoping that a nation traumatized by the recent fires will accept the depressing proposition that we have to adapt to this new reality – without putting up a fight. It is such an insidious and odious proposition, it shits me to death. Which is the perfect inspiration for an Honest Government Ad.

I hope you enjoy it – although of course “enjoy” is never quite the right word, is it. We need to come up with a more appropriate verb to capture the feeling of enjoying an Honest Government Ad… *thinking emoji*

Alright, I want to keep this short. But just a final word to say: thank you so much for your patience in January as we took some much needed time out to some familying and recharging. 2020 is going to be a big year, and now we’re ready to give it all we’ve got. I hope you are too.

I’ll catch you soon for the podcast + our next Honest Government Ad.

I guess one can go on and on with Government Shitfuckery ... though in addition to the mega gas expansion in WA. this has implications for the World Heritage nomination for the the worlds's greatest rock art site. The rockart of the Burrup Peninsula or Murujuga is suffering from acid rain. Already the rock pH has changed from near neutral to 4! That makes it a 1000 time increase in acid load upon the rocks.

D
Donald Butcher · February 12, 2020

Love it!!!!! and stoked that you also mentioned the mega gas expansion in WA.

t
thejuicemedia · February 12, 2020

I cannot believe this is even being considered - what the actual fuck

Can you do a piece on how flow has turned to flush in Australia's greatest river, and generally how the gov't is the real eco-terrorist along with it's corporate sponsors? Terror? Ecology? WTF?

D
Donald Butcher · February 12, 2020

Or how we have turned natural systems into ... worse than drains. A river can be likened to the human body with its many systems .. it's organs. We have cut wetlands out of the system all together. No kidneys, no lungs no liver.. just a channel to shunt someone's water downstream... or worse a drain. Who cares about downstream? 'Water flowing out to sea is wasted water' - i say bullshit to that.. The Coorong at the end of the Murray is dying for lack of freshwater flows

Truly inspired worked. Sure to go viral for its honesty and comedy. All the companies they are protecting are all, ultimately, producing a product or service the we the consumer are buying. We created these monsters but we also have the power to destroy them. Three things in life can never stay hidden, the sun, the moon and truth.

Greetings from Europe! Absolutely fantastic video once again. I just can not put it to words, how sorry I feel for your australians. Beside you have had these horrifying bushfires with so many lives lost, you have as a Prime Minister this absolutely lowest human scumback ever walked upon this planet. I was looking in disbelief those forced handshakes and Hawaii leisure trips, while your country was literally on fire. And top this all up, he arranged massive New Year fireworks at Sydney, like there was anything to celebrate at that moment. I just can not find words. This makes your work ever more needed. Stay strong! We must stop this madness.

t

Thank you so much for the solidarity from afar, Petri <3

Thanks as always for your work. Honestly this leaves me wondering if we should even bother engaging with politicians on their and big companies terms anymore, its clearly a waste of time.

Giordano and crew, what else can I say but Wow, what an excellent way to start the year. You should have little breaks more often :) Ticked every box and went straight to the actual truth of the matter. Just leaves one pondering, as Michael asks, how does a population defeat it's own government?

t
thejuicemedia · February 12, 2020

Haha yes maybe youre right about taking breaks more often! :D Thank you so much Peter, and yes Michael asks a very pertinent question

Mark D Larsen · February 11, 2020

Holy Smoke! I'll definitely be sharing this one ASAP. The tragicomedy practically brings me to tears. Gawd, maybe now, as more and such disasters keep piling up, people will finally start to wake up and realize that, as long as they remain addicted to the fossil fools' "drug," the petrol "pushers" will keep pushing it. Please, mates: dump the pump! Drive EVs! Build more wind, solar, geothermal, energy storage to power them. Refuse to "get fucken used to it"!

It highlights one of the growing trend of "Yeah, I get it's climate change, but it's not caused by us!" BS that some of the (and I say this as a guy in his 40s) older generations tend to spew. Even if this was true (and we all know it really isn't), what's their plan? Sit back and wait for the planet to kill us all off anyway? It's just another way people want to shift the blame from themselves and maintain the status quo. Change is fucking scary, but we're all in this together, and it's not like humanity hasn't done some absolutely amazing shit. "Get used to it" is akin to "put your head between your legs and hope we survive." Sorry for being a downer, but in my defense, the government started it. ;)

Michael Lines · February 11, 2020

Guys, thanks for this its brilliant, but simultaneously depressing in its accuracy. Giordano, I too struggle with the word “enjoy” at moments like this, but I must guiltily admit that I did. To me the. Worst part of all of this is the sense of powerlessness - not because people don’t care (the evidence is that they do) but that the current State Capture we are experiencing means that our government is not interested in doing what we, the voters want, only in looking after its vested interest supporters. You said all of this much more eloquently than me. But of course despair and a sense of helplessness , while natural, are easy but ultimately futile. There must be a way to harness the energy of the community and force the government to act. Maybe Extinction Rebellion was a potential model? It has occurred to me that mass civil unrest might be the only way - its hard to imagine in 2020 Australia, but it was during the early 1970s during the VietNam moratorium too. Its a strange question to be asking in a place like Australia, but how does a population defeat its own government?
