[PREVIEW] After The Fires | Honest Government Ad
Dear Patrons,
As you can see we've wasted no time getting back to work: here's the preview of our new Honest Government Ad, which will be out next week.
A lot has been said about the devastating fires this summer.
But one thing that's gone under the radar is our federal government's sneaky change in rhetoric about climate change policy. In two short month's they've gone from denying the connection between greenhouse emissions and more intense fires, to... "yeah ok climate change is real, and now we must adapt to it"
That's the kind of leadership we have: "Let's skip the bit where we fight to mitigate the worst effects of climate change (which we helped cause) while we still have time left, and go straight to telling you its inevitable and you need to adapt. Bye now, gotta catch a plane to Honolulu".
This signals a profound and extremely sinister shift in policy - it's borderline sociopathic, I would say - and one that, left unchallenged, will pretty much seal our fate.
So that's why I picked this topic for our inaugural Honest Government Ad of the new decade: as I believe this sets the stage for what's coming in the years ahead - and not just from the Australien Government, also from other governments owned by fossil fuel interests. So let's nip this shit in the bud, shall we.

Zeroes in on the empty rhetoric. So well done and thought out. Alan Jones's bag of rice, Sky News, and other Empty Talking Heads ... are now having to face the reality that people are becoming more aware that we are reaping what we've sown ... being one the largest exporters of Fossil Fuel Pollution... to make billionaires out of the few as they destroy the planet. Interesting to see Murdochs press readership has dropped 15% over just the last year... I think people ARE finally twigging onto the fact that Musrdoch's influence is pernicious and destructive and just fucking LIES. Little by little... Keep up the good work .

A mention of the billions of $ given in subsidies to the mining and gas industry would also go down well as the climate justice movement is calling on them to pay for the damage of the fires
Thank you Margaret, agreed - unfortunately there's only so much we can fit into an HGA, but we have spoken about fossil fuel subsidies (FFS) before and will do so again in future videos. There could be a whole episode dedicated to it...

Always believe the polluter pays... and we’re the biggest in the world. Tears of laughter at the satirical truth of it - followed by the Challenging thought it’s actually that bad.... and I agree, it hurts. Time to acknowledge the advice of the aboriginal custodians and build on a true carbon neutral future (preserve existing forests, plant new ones and develop attractively cheap systems to eliminate fossil fuel dependencies for the whole world). Watch out for the following govt statements and it will tell you they’ve given up and are only out for themselves. Anger at being called ignorant, Denial it’s actually happening, Bargaining to preserve their personal power base, create depression and frustration in the masses by doing nothing, generate Acceptance that it’s too late... only there’s no chance to repeat. I like that you highlighted solar, since at one stage in the mid 2000s we were leading the way in photovoltaic research, now ARENA has been gutted there isn't much of that anymore just "clean coal" crap which is an oxymoron really
