IDSG Bonus 4: Inglourious Basterds (2009)
In which Jack and I talk about Quentin Tarantino's 2009 epic, which I pretty routinely call my all-time favorite movie. Jack had never seen it before he picked it for the podcast, and I expected him to have a pretty negative reaction. If you've been following him on Twitter for the last couple of days, this was very much not the case and in fact he and I take very similar things from the film. Hint: it's much more about the War on Terror than it is about Nazis.
(We state this in the podcast but it's worth noting here in text that Harvey Weinstein's name is on this film, as it is on all of Tarantino's films up to the most recent one, and while we think he should rot in prison until he dies and that Tarantino himself bears some culpability for at least not being willing to ask certain questions about things that he most certainly had an inkling, we don't think it's worth discussing in detail in the context of this film.)

Listening to this episode now. Also a Tarantino fan but the thing near the end of “it questions the narrative of WWII” just reminds me of a meme about Churchill being the “worst guy you know makes a good point” of world war 2.
There's a question I've always wanted to ask someone who knows their movies and their Nazis better than I do. Does Hans Landa read to anyone else as a kind of Heydrich stand in?
I know it's a topical movie (for the pod), and you guys spoke about the elephant in the room, but doesn't Tarantino have a questionable history with violence against women?
Excited for this one. While not one of my favorites, it is a quality film. Looking forward to hearing yours and Jack's take on it. Also, props for addressing the rapist elephant in the room in the description there. Good to acknowledge.
