IDSG Bonus Episode 2: The Third Man

No clever text today unfortunately. For our second bonus episode, Jack and I chat nominally about Carol Reed's 1949 film The Third Man, but mostly we waffle on about post WWII Europe and the deprivations thereof, pandemic politics, depictions of real tragedy in cinema (including the Holocaust), and whether we are ever going to get around to doing Schindler's List.

Yes, we also mention the gorgeous sewers.

It's a fun chat regardless of the dark subject matter, and you need not have seen the movie to get a lot out of it I think.

The Third Man is available for purchase or for rent from most if not all online streaming platforms. You can find a synopsis of the plot (and plenty of other information about the film) here at TCM.

Don't worry, I actually rather liked the way this review happened. It reminds me of going on an ADHD fueled journey of discussion with my friends. The movie was a loose structure to frame things that needed to be said. Only quibble. Capitalism didn't really do much, and if you want to get real angry look at how bill gates used his charity to pressure Oxford into selling the patent to astra-zenica (which personally enriched bill by nearly 10b.) Instead of leaving the patent open for all... Which is partly why we are in a global shortage for vaccines.
