Episode 10 - Foster from Super Troopers (2001)

This week on Be Gay Solve Crimes, Nova rolls a natural twenty on the most insanely unlikely movie pull yet. It’s the exhaustively-memed early-00s stoner comedy Super Troopers, and for some reason it’s more transgender than we could have possibly guessed.

Join us for Barefoot Cops, frozen bananas, sublimated homosexuality, and a guy eating a whole plate of cannabis. Hold on, wait, didn't we do that episode last week?

If you want to hear more Be Gay Solve Crimes, you should sign up to our Patreon! For as little as £5 a month you can get access to a new bonus episode from us every fortnight as well as all our previous bonus episodes.

Tune in next week for The Maltese Falcon!

The Be Gay Solve Crimes team is made up of November Kelly, Mia Mulder, and your local librarian Lucy. If you like what we do, be sure to retweet us to help us spread the word!

One of my favorite little jokes is when Brian Cox is talking to the police chief and he says "I know we don't like each other" and the police chief looks at him with mock hurt and says "i like you"

Jordan Raskopoulos (fmr. Axis of Awesome) works with the Aunty Donna Boys*, so maybe she's regularly giving Zach the Riley Quinn treatment. You could ask Demi to ask her. 🤣

Lol ACAB. That is an exquisite joke to exist in a movie for this exact podcast. The Podtaculous exists! Fiddle-aged men keep out half the devils. Doomguy does the other half.

The cup stickers that confounded Mia are a reference to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald's_Monopoly#Fraud We’ve been trapped in a hellscape for a long time.

one of my few fond memories of spending almost twenty years in the Boy Scouts (an otherwise extremely mid to bad experience) was chugging bottles of maple syrup on a camping trip as a direct result of watching this film in the early years of the 21st century. although here by “maple syrup” i mean plastic bottles of maple flavored corn syrup with little color-changing microwave indicator labels

Barefoot Cop is the show I need to see. Solving crimes, arguing with shopkeepers about if they're allowed in, walking across gravel without whincing because their callouses are so thick, Barefoot Cop! "When I was 14 my dad made me cycle across Scotland with him and it sucked!" Well it was Scotland... the cycling talk was fun, I'm a lifelong cyclist but the worst I ever did to my kid was a 20 mile ride out and back on Colchester Causeway north of Burlington, Vermont. And I nag them that they should bike commute now but instead they're riding the bus and listening to podcasts like a nerd.

the "i'm not really much of a cop" bit reminded me so much of the opposite version i got as a teen: "i would date you if you were a boy". it took me over a decade to understand why that statement made me feel a rage that sputtered immediately into absolute devastation. and why i kept thinking about it. and why i still remember it now.

If you feel the pull for more weird rural 'detective' type movies, would recommend The Guard.

Being called good boy and good girl this many times in an episode was a very good scheme to make me become a patreon finally

Everytime I get a notification saying someone liked this comment it feels like they're calling me good girl as well

Shout outs to Victoria, who I know is hearing both a NA Miata and an IROC-Z28 get called a Corvette and is politely biting her tongue because eh- close enough 😅

"this was made immediately pre-9/11" sounds like the got tipped off on the attacks and *rushed* to put this into production

Oh Vermont is ABSOLUTELY that level of crazy abt syrup. I went to trade school there and not one, not two, but three! Different trade programs made maple syrup to sell to help pay for the program. As a young one our neighbours who tapped our trees would give us syrup more refined than you can legally sell in return

It’s my birthday today and having two of the three hosts call me a good boy was an unexpected but very welcome gift

Nova will document engineering disasters with her right hand and write movie names with her left. She'll take a Left on Read book... and read it!

While my cadet experience was pretty lame, I do feel the dudes being dudes boredom shenanigans does reflect my experience working retail.

It is such a relief that this movie (mostly) holds up - it was a formative movie for me too and one that I have been scared to to revisit. Absolutely watching again this weekend.
