Chapter 4 - Devlog #1
Hi!
Here we are with the first development update for Chapter 4.
But as usual, I'd like to start by looking back at the release of Chapter 3.
Overall, things went pretty well. Most of the feedback I received was positive, although unfortunately there was much less of it than I expected. There was negative feedback too, and sometimes outright hate from people who, at least in my opinion, still don't quite understand what kind of game I'm making.
So just in case, I'll repeat this for the thousandth time: Undawn is not a porn game, whether you like that or not. My main focus is the story, the characters, and the world, and that's how it's going to stay until the very end.
That doesn't mean I'll stop trying to improve the sex scenes. Their number may potentially increase from chapter to chapter in the future, but they'll never become the main focus of the game.
And that's the last time I'm going to return to this subject.
I've also received a lot of requests for achievement hints and a full walkthrough. As far as achievements are concerned, I'm leaning toward adding hints on how to unlock them directly to the menu in the next chapter, just to make things a little easier for you.
A full walkthrough, however, is unlikely. I simply don't see a good way to implement one directly into the game. Many paths haven't been added or completed yet, but more importantly, there are no right or wrong choices in Undawn. There's only the playthrough and the consequences that you personally consider best for your Rhiannon.
Now, about the new chapter.
I started working on the script back when Chapter 3 entered its Platinum release and finally finished it this Thursday. The chapter is turning out to be pretty big. By my current estimates, it's almost twice the size of the previous one, and there will be plenty of action in all sorts of forms.
Right now, I'm working on creating and preparing the characters for the new chapter, and I've already shown some of the first results to my supporters.
Nyx will return in this chapter. To my surprise, despite her very limited screen time, she's already managed to gain a few fans. And of course, the Man in the Mask, who always seems to find himself on the opposite side from her, will return as well. You'll learn a little more about why their relationship is the way it is, and you'll also have to make a rather important decision about which one of them to support.
There will also be several new secondary characters, including Valeria, the sweet wife of an innkeeper. Rhiannon can have a full Netori arc with her in the best dark traditions of Undawn. Or maybe she won't, if that's not something you want.
Loraine will return as well. If you've started a romance with her, she'll be able to provide Rhiannon with some very valuable information, and under the right circumstances, their meeting may even end with the two of them having some fun with another familiar character.
I'm sure quite a few of you have one obvious question by now: what about Vera?
No spoilers, but she's going to gain a very serious protector in the form of someone very few of you would expect. And while I don't usually praise my own ideas, their relationship has turned into one of the most wholesome ones I've ever created.

Given that we talk quite often you already have my feedback but i'll put it here just for the sake of it. I have loved how the story has progressed and I absolutely adore my character. I wait patiently for her to appear again and serve Rhiannon nakedly ... er ... faithfully. I am looking forward to seeing Nyx again, she seems like a super crazy and violently fun character. I also can't wait to see Vera's growth with her magic. More Lorraine is always welcome.

Only positive vibes from me, your game is immersive and the visuals are beautiful. As a side note I just made a simple VN, maybe if people appreciated the hard work and steep learning curve they'd be more supportive. Cheers.
Yeah, I don’t really understand why people complain about something they don’t have to play. There are plenty of games out there that focus heavily on the adult content if that’s what someone is looking for. Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, but I much prefer a story-driven AVN with adult elements rather than one where the story is basically just an excuse to get to the next scene. Some of the most popular AVNs out there are successful for exactly that reason—they put the story first. I don’t really have much of an opinion on Nyx yet since we haven’t seen enough of her for me to form one. Loraine, on the other hand...yeah, I’m definitely looking forward to getting more of her story. As for Valeria, let’s see...how many games do I play where every damn fool is trying to steal one of my love interests? Quite a few. So yeah, I’ll happily take the Netori route for a change. I’m also really enjoying Vera’s storyline. If I had to guess who might become her protector, I’d say it’s probably someone we’ve already met in the story, but not necessarily someone Rhiannon has personally met yet. My first guesses would be Liendel or Amelia, since either one would make a strong protector. If it turns out to be neither of them, then I’ll throw out Irsha as my completely out-of-left-field guess. Chapter 4 is shaping up to be another really good one, and I can’t wait to get into it.

Nowadays so many feel entitled to have everything go however they desire, like they are still babies swaddled by their mothers, which will assuage their every whim. The game is great, if someone needs porn so much there are many other games that provide gooning material
I think your game is going great. The story, characters and their development is way more important. You've definitely created something truly special and I look forward to every chapter. If people want nothing but a game full of sex, there are a ton of other games that cater to it. Not every game needs to be that way. Those games are hollow and offer nothing but the same thing they can get from actual porn. keep doing it the way you're doing. Way too many creators cave into the demands of people wanting it to be what they want it to be, instead of what the creator intended it to be. After that, it no longer belongs to the creator and everything falls apart.
I appreciate, that it is rather an adult game, than a porn game. I hope to find time to play thew last chapters, because i want to play it in greater chunks or in a hole season. Thats beacause i could only comment the first chapter. The choice of music is great. I hope more and more devs build in an ingame musicplayer.
I guess i failed to actually give you the feedback on how i felt about the game here on Patreon, but i left a glowing review on F95 for others to read. I -LOVE- the story and where it is leading so far, how you are intertwining various story arcs under one umbrella. Yours is one of the few games that i really follow for the story itself, not so much the visuals (though they certainly do not disappoint!). Please keep going the way you do.
I do read the positive feedback, and I'm genuinely grateful for it. I definitely didn't mean to make it sound like I was ignoring comments like yours. That part of the post was aimed more at the outright hate, if I can put it that way, rather than at criticism or positive feedback. I really do appreciate people who take the time to explain what they like or don't like about the game.
