Sadie Gets a Life 0.2.1 Dev Log, 2025-08-28

The 0.2.1 release is pretty close to baked. I still have quite a bit of playtesting to do, but I do have all of the scenes, sequences, and battles developed.

Sometimes, as a developer, you get caught up in a little cul-de-sac, something you know technically might not be worth the time and effort, but it's just too fun to stop. And that's how we get D'Stran's.

D'Stran's Bookstore

D'Stran's Bookstore (legally totally different from any bookstores, real or imagined cough) advertises miles of books and Sadie learns about it from Lexi once she completes enough missions.

Inside the bookstore, you will find all kinds of books with commentary.

I mean, all kinds of books with commentary. This store is packed with bookshelves and Sadie has something to say about almost all of them. Don't forget that there are bookcases on both sides, so twice as many things to read.

Is this plot-relevant? Eh, no. Do you the player get a lot out of this? Maybe a little. I did seed in a few Easter eggs and prizes for the studious book-reader, and if you're a frequent bookstore-goer, you might spot a few gripes as well.

Not Just D'Stran's

Also, if you haven't already noticed this, a large number of objects in the game actually have events tied to them. If you haven't noticed, I get it--with most games, the objects are purely decorative and setting up a bunch of throwaway commentary events takes time, development effort, and a little bit of creativity. But I have a soft spot in my heart for old-school RPGs like Shining Force, where you could get bits of plot and silly throw-away jokes from the bookcases in houses and castles.

That's why, the next time you're at a shop, perhaps check out the merchandise on display.

And sometimes there may be things out in the open that are of interest.

Now, not everything has an event associated with it, so I don't want to make any sort of grandiose claim to that effect. But if you're a veteran of this sort of genre (adult RPGM games), you might miss out on a lot of content by just buzzing through play sequences as fast as possible.
