My Top 5 Tips for Manufacturing in EVE Online

Manufacturing in EVE Online can be one of the most satisfying ways to build your place in New Eden, but it is easy to make the process more complicated than it needs to be. Whether you are taking your first steps into industry or trying to make an established operation more efficient, these five tips will help you choose sensible products, organise your characters and get your goods to the right buyers.

For some reason – it has been the main thing that has kept me playing the game, it’s a giant puzzle that has real people involved all around the process which I think gives it the chaos I love so much.

So here are some tips I thought might help budding industrialists:

1. Start Small and Choose Key Blueprints

Do not begin by trying to manufacture everything. Pick a focused group of blueprints and learn how those products move through the market. Tech I items are an excellent starting point because their production chains are straightforward and the risks are relatively manageable. Destroyers and cruisers can give you a useful foundation, while related modules and fittings may offer extra opportunities. Start with small production runs, watch how quickly they sell and reinvest only when the numbers justify expanding.

2. Build a Reliable Logistics Line

A good manufacturing plan is only as strong as the route that supports it. You need a reliable way to bring minerals, components and other inputs to your production location, then move finished products back to market. Jita may be the biggest trade hub, but it is not automatically the best choice for every item or every industrialist. Other markets can offer less competition, stronger local demand or shorter routes. Before committing to a product, consider the time, cost and risk involved in moving both materials and finished goods; logistics is part of the manufacturing margin, not an afterthought and does represent how much of a chore this fun thing becomes.

3. Give Every Alt a Clear Purpose

Setting up your alt characters properly is one of the best ways to make an industrial operation run smoothly. Rather than training every character to do a little of everything, give each one a defined role. One character might focus on invention, another on production and another on logistics or market activity. Clear specialisation helps you train the right skills, use your available slots effectively and understand exactly where each character adds value. Every alt should have a point, and that purpose should support the wider production chain.

4. Choose Tech II Products Carefully

Tech II manufacturing can look attractive, but a promising margin does not matter if the finished item sits on the market for weeks. Some products have strong, steady demand; others sell slowly or are crowded by established producers. Check demand, sales velocity, invention costs and the full component chain before you commit. My free EVE Online Excel spreadsheet 'Market Opportunity Spotting' on Patreon can help you compare options and make a more informed decision about what is worth inventing and building.

5. Enjoy What You Do

Efficiency matters, but EVE Online is still a game. There is little point building the most profitable operation imaginable if logging in feels like a chore. Choose products, locations and routines that keep you interested. You might enjoy supplying a particular region, building ships you actually fly or finding a niche that other industrialists overlook. A manufacturing plan that is fun is far easier to sustain, and that consistency often becomes an advantage of its own.

Build Smarter, Then Scale

Successful manufacturing is not about chasing every opportunity at once. It comes from starting with a manageable range, building dependable logistics, specialising your characters, checking the real demand for advanced products and creating a routine you genuinely enjoy. Get those foundations right and you can scale with far more confidence.

Overall, industry remains the beating heart of this game, every ship, gun and bullet is built by the players and that still remains a huge draw for me, that and of course your mom.
