Stop Protecting Me From You | Moonshadow | EP 8 | Uncut Reaction
Key’s buried trauma finally becomes too much to contain. Overwhelmed by guilt, nightmares, and memories she still can’t escape, she disappears into the forest, leaving Chan desperately searching for her.
When Chan finally finds her, Key admits why she keeps shutting her out: she’s afraid the darkest parts of herself will eventually hurt the person she loves. But Chan refuses to be protected from Key’s pain, making it clear that loving her means being there for all of her—not only the parts that are easy to carry.
Meanwhile, Chan’s mother continues interfering in their relationship, Sun steps in to defend her sister, and an unexpected connection from Jay’s past introduces a whole new layer of chaos.
But Key’s biggest confrontation is still waiting for her: returning to the place where one of the most painful memories of her childhood began.

Episode 8 „Lunar Eclipse“ starts with Key reaching out to her family – more exactly to Peach – just as they are about to call the police. She wants to be put on speaker, and tells them that she is safe and they shouldn’t worry about her, because she just needs some time. Wenn she is stronger, she will return, she claims. But she wants them not to tell Chan that she called, as she doesn’t want her to see her like this. They agree, but Peach mandates that she calls her if something happens immediately. Key switches her phone off again, and Key starts to try a few chords on her guitar. The next day, Chan is still unsuccessful in getting Key on the phone. Game comes in to prepare her for today’s meeting, but Phu comes also in claiming he sent more people to look for key, but he can’t find her, and asks Chan if she has any place in mind where she could have gone. She thinks about it for a while, then tells Game to cancel the meeting, as she is looking for Key. Then, she leaves; on her way, she tells Sun to take care of the hotel while she’s away looking for Key. Sun wants to know if she knows where she is, and Chan claims to have a place in mind and is going to look there for her. Sun promises to take care of the hotel in her absence, and also will look after Simba, telling her to find Key and take her home. Meanwhile, Key is strolling to the wilderness with her guitar, strumming sullen chords, as she remembers her mother talking about the moon and the stars, which never appear clearly at the same time in the night sky. Her mother followed this up by mentioning that sometimes, they need to give up something to keep something else alive. Chan meanwhile is looking for Key where she met her 10 years ago and records a voice message for her as she has something to tell her. Simba and her miss her very much, she claims. Right now, she is looking for her, even though she doesn’t know where she is, but she thinks she might be at the place where they first met – which is correct, we see, as she strolls through the same place we saw Key strolling through earlier. Chan encounter Key’s moon key chain lying in the grass and knows she is in the right place. Key notices that her key chain is missing and goes looking for it, and Key and Chan pass closely by each other, but keep missing each other. It gets dark, and Key recalls being abandoned by her mother as she gets more and more frantic and recalls her trauma of feeling responsible for her mother s*icide. Chan finds her sitting in the grass where she encountered her 10 years ago – crying. She takes her in her arms and tires to console her. We switch over to Sun sitting at the bar with the pilot from episode 6 who know each other, but haven’t seen each other in a long time, because she is flying around, and probably has lost touch with all her friends, but the pilot claims that it’s her job; she claims that Sun is looking stressed and asks what’s wrong. Sun claims it’s about her sister’s girlfriend, and the pilot lady is surprised that her twin has a new girlfriend, but Sun claims hasn’t she seen the news about it, but the pilot claims not to read entertainment gossip and doesn’t know her twin personally. She asks if her new girlfriend might not be a good person, but Sun claims the real problem is their mother who doesn’t like her. The pilot remembers Sun complaining about Chan’s girlfriend many times, and this is the first time she claims her girlfriend is okay, unlike when she was talking about Jay. But Sun reiterates that Jay did a terrible thing to Chan, and it’s hard not to hate her. The pilot wants to meet Jay – and she then gets her wish fulfilled as Jay walks in with Phu who is worried about her. Sun asks Jay how she dares to come here, but Jay is not in the mood to argue with her that day, but Sun claims that backstabbing is her style. But Jay argues that she has nothing to do with the news about Key’s mother, she’s not that coward, but Sun claims that she’s a loser, to which Jay responds, “Watch your mouth, girl!” before Phu tells them to stop and claims that Jay really didn’t do it. He argues that Sun, Jay, and Chan are his friends and he doesn’t want them to misunderstand each other. Jay reports that Chanya asked her to steal Chan from Key, but that she refused to do it, because she has too much dignity to do that, claiming Chanya must think so poorly of Key that she’d rather see Chan back together with herself. Sun asks Jay whether Chan wants to take her back, but at this point, the pilot joins the conversation, telling her to calm down as she’s a celebrity. Jay and the pilot immediately recognize each other, and the pilot tells Jay to not get wasted that day. Sun calls her by her name – Elle – for the first time, as she asks her if she knows Jay, and Elle learns that she has already met Chan’s ex. Jay just leaves, and now Elle wants to know about the news. She gets the gist told by Phu and Sun – that Jay dumped Chan, but still loves her, but Chan has moved on with Key, with a scandal about Key’s mother causing troubles, because Chanya wants to break them up, so she asks Jay to steal Chan from Key – and realizes their lives are so tangled, and wonders why can’t they do things the easy way. Sun argues that things should have been over if Jay didn’t come back, with Phu arguing that Jay may not be a very mice person, but he feels sorry for her, because she was guilt-tripped into breaking up with Chan and marrying an American millionaire as Jay’s aunt had a financial problem and was going bankrupt. Marrying that man was the only way to save her family, he argues. Elle wants to help them. But we switch back to Key and Chan, who are sitting in front of Key’s lodge now, with Sun putting her jacket over Key to keep her warm. Key argues that it’s unbelievable she saved her a second time and asks how did she know where she was. Chan didn’t know, she claims, she just had a hunch that she might be there as this is the place where they first met. Key claims that she thought this place might help her heal, but Sun wants to know why she didn’t tell her as she could help her. But Key claims she didn’t want to see her falling apart, so she ran away to be alone. Key claims that tonight the moon looks scary – and we see the moon looks red that night – and Chan argues that some people believe that a lunar eclipse is a bad sign, but for her it’s just a natural phenomenon when the Earth casts a shadow onto the moon that won’t last long before it will pass. Just like things that happened in the past in the end will just be a thing of the past. But Key is still afraid because she likes it better when the moon shines brightly. Chan then calms her down further by singing a few lines of “Moonkey” (to be released Oct 1st), and Key thanks her for saving her. The next day, they are lying in bed together, as Key calls Chan so pretty, and asks whose girlfriend she is. Chan claims that she’s her girlfriend, but wanted to cuddle with her a bit longer, so she didn’t reveal that she was up. Key wants to know if her arm hurts, but Chan claims that if she gets to hold her, it’s totally worth it. They share a few kisses, and Key claims that’s more than cuddling and wants to know where she learned this naughty behavior from. Chan claims that when she becomes close to someone, it’s normal that she will pick up some of her behavior. Key claims she didn’t pick up any of Chan’s behaviors, and Chan guesses they are not close enough, then. 😉 They share a few kisses again, and Key wants to know if this is close enough, and thanks her for holding her through the night, arguing she slept soundly without any nightmares. Chan offers to hold her any time she wants. And they kiss again. After getting up, it’s time to get home. They argue that Simba must be missing them and call him their son which Key likes, because it’s like she has her own family – mama, mommy, and Simba. Chan says they should hurry home because their son might be yowling nonstop. And they drive off… Chanya comes to the office and is surprised to find Sun there. Sun claims to help Chan with her work as she’s busy, and argues she knows the work process of their hotel, Chan having taught her in case something like this happens. Chanya claims that she never knew she was interested in running their business, gut Game reports that Sun doesn’t want Chan to handle the hotel management alone, and she often came in to learn about the business when she had time. Chanya claims that the twins seems to love each other, and Sun claims that whatever or whoever Chan loves, she will love too. 😊Chanya argues that she loves them as well, but she is older and there are some things that people their age might not have thought about, so she should warn them about it. But Sun argues that warning them out of concern and forcing them to do what she wants are two different things. …Sun and Chan return home and deal with Simba who seems unimpressed. Chan wants Key to never leave their son or herself again. Chan teats Key like a cat and asks why is this cat not meowing, with Key arguing that she’s a human. Chan wants to visit Key’s family with her that night, and tells her not to worry, she will always be by her side. Key gives a small nod in acceptance. And later, they stop by at the family home together and meet Key’s father, big mom, Peach, and Niam. Key runs into big mom’s arms as she claims that she’s back and is sorry that she worried them. Big mom claims that just seeing her come back safely is good enough for her. Her father thanks Chan for taking Key home, and Key formally and officially introduces Chan as her girlfriend. They sit down, and her father asks Chan whether she knows that when Key young, she was outside watching the moon every night, and sometimes, she even fell asleep outside, with him carrying her back to her bad every time. Chan claims that now, Key has a girlfriend named Chan, and argues this must be destiny. But her father wants to talks to them about something and he reports about Key’s mother and her status in the family, who loved Key very much, he claims, but because of her illness, she did things that hurt her. Key claims that every time she hurt her without meaning to, she always regretted it, and Key loved her anyway. Her father claims that he was the one who made her condition worse, it was because of his incompetence that he was secretly dating her where they were in school. But his father forced him to marry big mom, and he did something selfish and hurt everyone, Big mom was really nice to him, and he never thought that he would fall in love with her because of her goodness. He ended up hurting Key’s mom so badly that she got ill. He claims that he was a terrible man and couldn’t do anything to help Key’s mom or Key. Key claims that her father is the best father in her eyes. But her father argues that from now on, she needs to stop blaming herself. Key nods and hugs her father. Chan and Key spend the night in her old room, as she wants to know how Key lived. But Key is unable to sleep because she is afraid that she will have another nightmare about her mother. Chan wants to face it with her, and they enter Key’s mother bathroom, where Key found her after she committed s*icide. They slowly step inside – and that’s where the episode ends. ____ That was an episode which mainly dealt with Key’s trauma which still isn’t fully dealt with, but the episode makes the case that Chan’s love and care can heal Key, and while I don’t fully subscribe to this point of view and think that Key needs more therapy as well, I think I can live with that notion for now. Other than that, the episode revealed the family back story, where the father caused all the trouble because he couldn’t let go of Key’s mom, and the show brought Jay and the pilot (Elle) back together – and I’m starting to think that Elle might be what Jay needs at this point. Other that than, this was a mainly optimistic episode without any forced breakups – as would be usual for GMMTV shows at this point – and I doubt that we will get any breakups for the rest of the show. Finger’s crossed 😉 Two episodes to go.
