No Kissing, No Feelings… Easy, Right? 😏 | Moonshadow EP2

Chan and Key officially put some boundaries around their unconventional arrangement—but apparently, rules were made to be broken. As Key continues pushing past Chan’s carefully constructed walls, their playful dynamic begins shifting into something far more intimate, even as glimpses into Key’s painful past reveal the guilt she still carries over her mother’s death.

Just as Chan begins accepting Key’s presence—and perhaps the feelings that come with it—the past comes knocking. Chan’s first love and toxic ex, Jay, suddenly returns, threatening the fragile connection Chan and Key have only just begun to build.

Episode 2 „New Moon“ starts with a flashback to the trauma that Key suffered at home: she found her mother dead, with the police, Peach and Niam also present, and father and big mom returning from some function to the events. Father asks the police what happened to his wife, but they can’t tell him much at this point, as they have to wait for the autopsy to know the cause of death. But they need his daughter to come to the station for a statement, because the discovered the body. Key keeps claiming it was her fault, arguing she is dead because Key returned home. After the credits, Key and Chan are watching the night sky, and Key argues that it’s a new moon night, claiming it marks s nee beginning, a chance to wash away the negative and transform into a new version of themselves. It’s a good time for those who want to forget the bad things in their past, or for those who have done bad thinks. Chan wants to know if there is something going on with her, and Key confirms that something big is going on – she wants to be her sugar baby. This is the last time she will ask her, she claims, and if Chan doesn’t want her to talk about it, she should give her an answer. She wants to know what Chan is going to do about them. Chan replies by asking a question: why does Key want to be her sugar baby? Key claims that it will be fun, and that she likes being her little sugar baby. Chan claims that she’s strange, but Key argues that if she’s not, she won’t remember her. Chan asks her if she has anything to remember her by besides her strange offer, and Key teases a bit by acting flirty and asking what else could it be. Chan argues that if she wants to be her sugar baby, she needs to follow her rules: she can do anything to her, but Key needs to do everything she tells her, she is hers only, but that doesn’t mean she will have only her. Key asks what she is to her, then, and Chan replies that she is her sugar baby and argues that she owns her, she’s her boss. If she’s not okay with it, they will walk their separate ways. But Key kisses Chan’s hand as she agrees, arguing a woman like her is so her type. Chan reminds her again that between them, they are employer and employee, she is her personal entertainer, and no one else can know about their deal. Key agrees to that as well, and asks if Chan is going to spend the night with her, so she can start providing her service. Later, Chan lies is Key’s bed alone. She wakes up and returns to the living room, where Key is sleeping on the couch with Simba in her hands. She wakes her up to asks why she’s sleeping on the couch and she claims that Simba kept waking her, so she came out to give him food, but he refused to eat. Chan tells Key to get up and go get dressed, they are taking Simba to see a vet. Key claims that Simba is just a free spirit, but Chan asks her if Key is refusing to eat, is it because she is sick or because she’s just free spirit. Key claims it’s the former and agrees to that him to a vet. Later a the vet, Chan argues that if they hadn’t taken him to a vet, they wouldn’t have known that he was sick, and that Key needs to take better care of him. Key admits that she was wrong, and Chan will take Simba to live with her until he gets better. Kex wants to know if she’s serious, but Chan claims if Key leaves him alone to go to work and there’s an emergency, what will she do? She claims that she won’t let anything happen to him. Then the nurse comes in to give them Simba’s medication, and both react to it, with Key claiming that she is mommy and Chan is mama. We switch to Phu talking to Jay, who for the first time in the series calls her by name, with Jay asking if Chan knows that she is his business partner. Phu wants to know if she’s sure she wants to do this, but Jay argues that he needs to help her get Chan back, otherwise, she won’t help him with the debt he owes her. If he doesn’t want it to become public, she should better make his move to help her. Chan and Key return with Simba and his stuff to Chan’s hotel room. Chan orders her around while she’s introducing Simba to his new temporary home. Key wants to know why she never looks at her the way she looks at Simba. Chan wants to know if she’s a cat, but Key argues she’s the cat’s mommy. Key wants to take a nap, arguing that she doesn’t want to fall asleep on stage tonight. Chan claims that she can, but directs her to the couch instead of the bed. Father and big mom are sitting at home with father going over a lot of documents and big mom bringing him tea. He asks her how she’s doing, and she feels much better. He claims that she wants to talk about his birthday party, and she confirms it, arguing that she wants him to invite Key as well, but he doesn't think that he can. His wife wants to give it another try, but father argues that he won’t hold a birthday party this year, as he’s really busy with the farm business and he thinks we will need to stay there for several days. He claims that just seeing her healthy again is the best gift for him, but she wants all of them to be together this year. He claims that it’s up to Key and he doesn’t want to force her. Chan returns to her living room and covers the sleeping Key with a blanket, but as she wants to touch Key’s face, Key grabs her arm and drags her down to her, asking what she’s doing, claiming she noticed her smell when she was sleeping, and she smells so good that it woke her up. Chan claims she was just checking if she was breathing, and Key takes it as a sign that she was worried about her, but wraps her arms around Chan to ask if she was just checking her breathing, or if she wanted to check everything like she did last night. Chan argues that Key should go home, but Key argues that it’s several hours until work and wonders where she is going to hang out till then. Chan claims that Key’s business, not hers, and Key eventually agrees to leave, claiming she will go to practice with her band. She hugs as she claims it doesn’t matter if she act coldly towards her or if she always has to get her own way, as long as she can be by her side and see her smile, that’s enough for her. They almost kiss, but then Chan tells her to go. Later, Sun comes in and notices that cat at Chan’s place, Chan claims to take care of him for his owner. Sun wants to know who the owner is, but Chan claims that she wouldn’t know her even if she told her. Sun argues that there’s no way she would take care of a cat for someone, especially someone she doesn't know, and asks what happened to her, arguing that she’s her twin sister, and she knows her well. Chan claims that someone just asked her to take care of him as he’s sick. Sun didn’t know that Chan likes animals, and Chan didn’t know as well she claims as she smiles. Sun wants to know who the owner is and what she does for a living, but Chan just repeats she wouldn’t know her even if she told her. Sun asks does that mean that Chan is over Jay, and Chan doesn’t answer that and instead asks her why she came to see her that day, arguing that if she doesn’t have any business with her, then she should leave. Sun guesses that based on her answer, she is not over Jay. Sun claims she will leave, but asks Chan when is she going to get over her. Jay is waiting at the hotel bar restroom and considers light up a cigarette as Key comes in, and Jay wants to know if she’s also a regular customer at this bar, but she claims that she is a regular singer there and has started to work there recently. Jay asks if it’s destiny that they meet each other so often, and Key claims maybe, but argues their destiny is to be friends. Jay guesses that her relationship is no longer just a one-night stand, and Key confirms it by nodding. Jay then asks if she is dating that person for a year, will she still feel excited when she’s kissing her, and Key thinks so, but Jay claims that kissing a person she likes is like smoking, and argues that while she feels excited when it’s the first kiss, but after a while it will become a habit and she will get addicted to it – even when she wants to quit, she can’t. Key wants to know what if she always feels excited when she does it, and Jay claims it means she’s lucky and found the one. She tells her not to make a mistake and not to let her go. Key as called by her bandmate as it’s almost performance time and excuses herself, and Jay finally lights up her cigarette. Chan is playing with Simba as Key returns after the gig. Key wants to take Simba home claiming he is better, but Chan tells her to go, claiming she will keep him with her tonight to monitor his condition, arguing she can take care of him better than Key. But Key proposes to sleep over there tonight to help her take care of him. Chan argues that is an excuse to stay over, but Kay claims that Chan slept over at her place. Chan claims it’s fine, but argues that she will sleep on the sofa. She claims that Key is just a sugar baby and can sleep in her bed only on special occasions. Key takes her in her arms and proposes she will make that night a special occasion. They almost kiss again, but then Chan claims someone told her kissing is like smoking – we only get excited the first time. (Where have I heard that before? 😉) Key wants to know why Jay and Chan said similar things to her, but doesn’t connect the dots. Meanwhile, Jay is drinking at the hotel bar where she encounters Sun and claims it’s been a while and claims it’s good to see her, but Sun wants her to drop the act and knows that she hates her. Jay claims that no matter haw much they look alike, she can’t bring herself to like her. Sun wants to know why she returned, and Jay argues that she’s acting rude contrary to her normal behavior, but Sun argues that she’s selective about how she treats people, and argues that she’s nice to everyone except those who f*ck her sister up. Jay argues that she just came back to get back what is hers, and Sun wonders if she thinks that Chan let her fool her again. Jay argues that love is not about being smart or stupid, it’s about finding a good match. If they are a good match, then no one can come between them, she claims. Chan looks at photos of Simba as she gets a picture from Jay showing her drink at her bar with a lipstick mark, and this trigger a flashback about Chan and Jay’s happy times together. She gets out of bed and finds Key on the couch of the balcony trying out a new song. Key asks her if she woke her up, but Chan just shakes her head and asks about the title of the song. Key claims that it’s a new one she is writing and have never performed it for anyone. Chan looks at her notes and finds it beautiful. She wants her to sing it again, but Key proposes that they sing it together. And they sing it together for two minutes, after which Chan repeats that it’s beautiful, and tells her to finish the song. And Key will do it but teases her that Chan might have something else she wants her to do right now. Chan calls her a little perv but admits that she likes it, and they almost kiss for the third time – but Chan issues a new rule: “no kissing” for the two of them. Key wants to know what is she supposed to do if she can’t kiss her? But Chan reiterates that they won’t kiss and calls it a strict rule. Key argues that it will be hard for her and wants to know why they need to have this rule, but Chan claims that she doesn’t need to know the reason, she just needs to follow the rule. Key asks her to kiss her tattoo instead and exposes her tattoo. And eventually, Chan starts kissing her tattoo, followed by them kissing each other on various body parts. The next morning, Key wakes up on the couch with Simba resting on her body, and a post-it on her forehead which Chan presumably kissed, judging from the lipstick stains. She wakes up, and says to herself that they can’t kiss, so Chan does this instead, smiles and kisses the post-it note. Chan wants Phu’s restaurant to launch a promotion for her hotel, a 15% rebate on all meals for hotel guests in the first year. In return, she won’t change him for the first month. Phu needs to talk to his partner first, with Chan interested in who that partner is. Sun comes in before he can answer that question, but she also wants to know who his partner is – but them Jay comes in asking if Chan misses her. Later, Sun and Phu talk outside, Sun claims that the restaurant was her plan, and Phu is sorry but claims that Jay ordered him to do it admitting that he is in a tough spot himself. He knows that Chan won’t be okay with it and Sun asks if he owes Jay money, arguing that he ends up like this because he is living above his means. She know that he borrowed money from many people, even from the director she works with. Phu argues that he never flakes on them, he gradually paying them back, but Sun argues that the money to pay his debts back comes from Jay. If he continues to do this, she will cut him off one day, she warns him. Meanwhile, Jay talks to Chan and claims that she misses her. She asks her not to be mad at Phu, and claims she forced him to do this. She really wants to do business with her, she claims, and argues she shouldn’t let their relationship be a problem for business. Chan claims it won’t affect the restaurant, it’s a business, and tells her to just do her work, it has nothing to do with her. Jay claims that this is her Chan, comes closer and asks her out for dinner that night. Chan doesn’t reply, but Jay claims she knew it. And after a long pause, Chan tells her to go if she’s done with her business. Jay wants a goodbye kiss before that, and reminds her that she told her that kissing is like smoking. She argues that she quit smoking for a while, but when she sees it again, she’s more excited than the first time she smoked. She asks her if she feels the same, but Chan just turns around, and Jay is leaving after that. We get another flashback of their time together, this time with Chan and Jay playing the piano together and kissing each other, while Chan stands on a rooftop smoking a cigarette. Key is waiting for Chan while playing with Simba, asking herself why Chan isn’t home yet, and asking Simba if he misses his mama, too. She checks out the perfume in her bathroom, claiming Chan smells so good. She looks at a photo of Chan playing the piano and goes over to it to play some notes, but Chan comes over to put a stop to it, arguing she should never play the piano, and Key is sorry for it and gets it. Chan is sorry for blowing up on her and claims she just doesn’t like it when someone plays the piano. Key wants to know what the matter is with the piano, and Chan claims that it belongs to someone who hurt her, someone she doesn’t want to talk about. Key hugs her as she promises to never touch the piano again. She will also keep Simba away from it, but Chan doesn’t mind if it’s Simba. Key accuses her of playing favorites, and Chan wants to know if she has a problem with that, but Key denies it. She claims that as her sugar baby, she will never hurt her, feel stressed or upset. She will only feels happiness in the time they spend together, she claims. Make her smile will be her main duty form now on, she promises. Key asks Chan if she feels better, and Chan confirms it. Key argues that she’s in trouble when Chan smiles like this, because she can’t kiss her, but she wants to. Chan argues that she can kiss her on the cheek, and Key does it several times, and of the forehead as a bonus – just as Sun arrives and asks who is this girl. And that’s where “New Moon” ends. ____ This was a slower episode without major reveals – after the beginning, where we saw Key traumatized at finding her mother dead at home, but I’m sure that’s not the whole story, as it is with everything else in the show. The rest of the episode dealt with Chan and Key dealing with the ramifications of being sugar mommy and baby, and with Jay revealing she wants to get back with Chan, but we don’t know yet what happened that caused their separation, only that it traumatized Chan. I think that Key only proposed to become a sugar baby because she feared that she would lose Chan otherwise. I disliked the “no kissing” rule – as Emi and Bonnie are best when they are kissing – and hope this will not stand for long.
