Jump v1.3.5 (Bug fix edition)

Hello everyone, in this update I am focusing on fixing the bugs that have been accumulating within Jump. I'm sure with this new update it'll introduce fresh new bugs haha so keep letting me know what's wrong and I'll keep trying my best to fix everything until it's perfect! I read every comment so, even if I don't have time to reply to all of them, I am reading and working on everything!

The most common bug has been RetroArch not loading games or not saving properly. The most likely cause is that you are using an old version of RetroArch from the Play Store or the latest stable build which actually broke the Network Commands feature (not so Stable after all)! Downloading a new nightly build of RetroArch should fix all of those issues. You can get the newest build here: https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/android/2026-09-09-RetroArch_aarch64.apk

In Jump, under Game Switcher, it'll actually attempt to tell you if you're using an old/broken version of RetroArch and give you a link to a new download to fix that issue. If you see the red text there, make sure you follow the instructions to update. If you don't see the red text, you should be good to go!

What changed since 1.3

  • DuckStation boots games again

  • Switching to another RetroArch game no longer goes black

  • MelonDS and WatermelonDS should swap games properly

  • Cemu on phones finds games properly

  • A RetroArch core you do not have is named with a pop-up toast message instead of a black screen

  • A system with no emulator installed lets you know

  • When using Jump as your home app, it keeps the library after a reboot without needing to scan again

  • PlayStation .bin and .img files support

  • Jump now recognises .gb files in gbc folders and .gbc files in gb folders

  • Game Renamer leaves arcade and Neo Geo files alone as they need to keep certain names for certain emulators

  • ColecoVision and PICO-8 are now supported

  • Every RetroArch core should now show when choosing a core and the core's full name will also show beside it. Hopefully this means no more manually typing core names!

  • Collections can be renamed

  • More spine fixes. For the next update I'll focus on fixing many of the spine issues!

  • No black bar on foldable phones anymore (open or folded)

  • You can close Search by pressing B

  • Many bugs when navigating the Home screen have been fixed

  • Jump now notices if Android drops its accessibility permission and asks for it again

  • For dual screen devices: screen switch no longer freezes, it works more reliably as your home launcher, the switcher properly returns to the game, RetroArch issues have been fixed

Again, I'm sure fresh new bugs will pop up as that seems to be the nature of these kinds of things. You fix one thing, and another breaks. My goal is to eventually have a flawless app. I'm a real perfectionist so I'm going to keep working on this and improving it endlessly until it's exactly what I hoped.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me with this. I hope you're enjoying it. I'll keep working on it. Hope this update is a good one!

Loving the launcher so far Ryan! Is it possible that one day it could support video previews for games and that we could save the art to a MicroSD card instead of internally?

Hi, one issue I’m having with this launcher is it won’t start PlayStation games using the retroarch GooseStation core. I set the custom core name as “goosestation” which I believe is the correct format but when I launch a game from the launcher it just hangs at a black screen.

Hey Ryan, I have a problem, when you start armsx2 or emucorex the game doesn't start directly you go to the main Manu of the emulator, I hope you fix this

They Ryan, love the frontend, just dropped daijisho for it. Got a minor suggestion, I think it would be nice to enable battery percentage and time to be displayed at the top or bottom of the screen. Another suggestion, if you can load vita games the same way PC games work would be a great feature too but otherwise, I really really enjoy searching the front end by the spines, very clever

This my 1st Android setup. Other guides recommended ESDE then other steps including downloading BIOS files.... Does JUMP have auto bios downloader ? Or am I confused and it's avail in the retroarch for Android settings ? I'm a little lost and I could Google Google Google to figure out but it seams like I'll replicate several steps wasting a bit of time. Which I don't mind doing I just want to understand to what level Jump can do it all ...

I'd love to work with you on a genre swap. Instead of systems, toggle in the settings a list of genres, and then it shows all the genres at the bottom. So all the racing games are together, and run and gun, and platformers. That and I am wondering if you would consider gathering an alternative artwork. For example, on this page, scroll down https://www.screenscraper.fr/gameinfos.php?gameid=18359&action=onglet&zone=gameinfosmedias Look at Mix Recalbox version 1. Thanks for all you are doing

Hey Ryan, just made the "jump" (pardon the pun) and tried out your front end. I'm really loving it so far on the AYANEO Pocket Air Mini. I'm not sure that this is the best place for suggestions, but my preference when having games from different systems all on the same page (like in the collections for example) is for them to all have the same aspect ratio art. The way I've done this in the past is to use steamgriddb and use all 2:3 art (there's a surprising amount of retro stuff on there). I would love that option in Jump and think it would be a great addition to your current view selection.

Now that the duckstation issue was fixed, Jump is now my default launcher. Only question I have is if it will be possible to add our own spine images

It's getting better and better, really good job. I still see some arcade system missing like Sega's Naomi 1 and 2, Atomiswave, Model 2 and 3, and since Capcom games appear in arcade it may help having folders or sub categories, just a suggestion. Again really great job!!

My internal storage is close to bursting. Any chance you could make it so scrapped art has an option to be saved to the SD card? Loving it so far though!

I tried it on a Retroid Pocket 6 plugged into a dock outputting to my TV. It was doing something strange with the screen and ultimately froze the entire RP6. I think its defaulting to a dual screen setup or something. Maybe have it default to a single screen setup for the initial installation process? edit - I was able to set it up undocked but it still freezes up with just the word JUMP on the screen as soon as I launch it docked.

Yay! My PS2 games are launching now. Trying to figure out where the scraped artwork is stored tho. It's not in the drop in folders. Where are they stored?

Great work on the frontend in general! And sorry if this already got mentioned. But i have a problem when i make it my default launcher i cant set the button screen as the screen jump browses on (button screen just freezes while top screen still changes games when pressing buttons etc). and idk what is triggering it but the more "thing" i press on on the screen the more the launcher stops working of that makes sense

Z
ZunjoyS · September 9, 2026

I also cant close it in task manager when i have opened it i have to reset the console

I love that it shows the last thing you played. It’s very intuitive and fast. Great job Ryan!

For a reason, Jump refuses to open psx/ps2 games directly, the program show that duckstation and nethersx2 are not installed, but they are and I can open games normally on the emulators, how do I fix it?

Sam Piggins · September 9, 2026

Great work so far, you’re covering a lot of work very quickly and am very grateful. One question and one future build ask - does it recognise roms in subfolders, think some of mine weren’t picking up. Also background music, using local audio files, that hard to add in to a build? TIA

R
Ryan Retro · September 9, 2026

BGM is on the roadmap :) It should look 1 folder deep by default. In each system's settings you can choose whether to scan 1 folder deeper or not. If they are folders within folders within folders it won't currently pick them up

Grargemeister · September 9, 2026

Cheers for this Ryan. Appreciate the frequent fixes and updates that compliment them. Curious if you have any plans for the bottom screen. I'd love to see the time and WiFi connection bar rather than having to swipe down to check but these are trivial things.

Ryan Retro · September 9, 2026

That's a great idea and I'll add it to my notes!

Thanks for working hard on updates! Just an idea that pops into my head. There are still spines missing for quite a few of my games, so I am thinking, would it be possible to create a Claude/Gemini agent and hook it up to something like figma to create spines based on a per console template with just the logo and name of the game? That way, there is almost a guarantee that spines are available as long as there is the logo of that game...

R
Ryan Retro · September 9, 2026

Oh that sounds like a good idea! I've been trying to source 3D boxes and edit the perspective/warp to create more spines. That sounds like a much faster way haha

J
Jaheardzz · September 9, 2026

The one thing keeping me from using is that adding my eternal drive as source results in a zero games warning

R
Ryan Retro · September 9, 2026

Could you give me some more details about that? What kind of external drive? Are your roms all in a roms folder with the system folders like 'gb' 'gba' inside?

S
Sam · September 9, 2026

Been my default launcher for a week now on my Nova and I'm really digging it! The customization is incredible and everything is snappy. Nice work Ryan!
