Jump v1.3 with 3 HUGE new features and many fixes!

I have to again say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has joined the Patreon and downloaded Jump! This has gained far more reach than I ever expected so I've been working all day and all night on improving things for you all! There are still bugs as it's still very new but I'm working tirelessly to improve it and make it the perfect frontend for gamers who want to get in and out of their games quickly and easily without all the extra effort.

I've uploaded a video to my channel showing many of the new features of 1.2 and 1.3 here: https://youtu.be/bthWWmmzdLQ

First of all, let me mention the 3 big new features:

  • Game Switcher! This is the feature I’ve always wanted on Android handhedls! Pressing a shortcut button takes a screenshot of the game you’re in and either quits the game or pauses it in the background. The same button in Jump lets you flipsthrough recent games and jump right back in, auto-loading your previous save (Currently working in RetroArch, ARMSX2 and Dolphin. Other systems are being worked on!)

  • Custom themes! Choose a color, pattern, picture or video, customize the fonts and view styles, for the whole app or per system. Export your theme as a backup to use later or share with others. New Wood and OLED true black themes added by user request! Colors added in the color palette become your own personal palette and will be remembered throughout the app.

  • Game Renamer! Easily batch rename all your files to the correct (or at least, expected) names, either renaming them only in Jump itself or actually renaming the files. This is great for rom management! It’ll also help with finding art for your games automatically.

I've also added many Quality of life improvements

  • System management: rename, hide, and reorder systems either through the Settings menu or by holding your finger on a system on the system bar and dragging it around or letting go to open the pop-up menu.

  • New systems: Wii U, Commodore 64 and Amiga are now implemented. PS3 folders, Xbox 360 bin and iso file types, PS2 cue and gz file types should now also be supported.

  • Better art search: Search boxes, spines or discs. When there is only 1 game matching your game, it’ll be assigned that artwork. It may lead to a few false matches but should hopefully lead to more correct art in general when ROM names aren’t expected (try the Game Renamer mentioned above)

  • Report missing art: Just like the bug reporter, there is now a missing art reporting function too. Bring up a game’s settings by pressing Select or holding your finger down on it and choose ‘Report missing art’. It’ll be sent to me and put into a database that I can go through and flesh out over time.

  • GameNative automatically adds PC games (Steam, Gog, Epic). This is one of the things that always bugged me about other front-ends! In GameNative, go to Settings → Interface → Frontend Sync and choose roms/pc for all the various game directories and it’ll automatically create those entries in Jump and they’ll get the art automatically scraped too! If you don’t want to use GameNative’s sync or you are using a different emulator like GameHub, you can use Jump’s Settings -> Library -> Add a PC game to search and add a PC game manually which will add it into Jump along with the box art and launch.

  • Home screen control: The sections of the home screen can now be enabled/disabled, rearranged and personalised. Collections can be rows of game boxes, spines on a shelf, etc. Android apps can also be added to collections now too so you can make a collection of streaming apps or add Android games into your other collections for example. The home screen has its own menu in Settings.

  • More emulators supported: PPSSPP Gold, X1 BOX, ARMSX2, ARMSX3 should all now work. Please report bugs if they or any others aren’t working as expected.

  • Backgrounds! This can be per page, per-system views, views you can switch off, header at the bottom, your own button mapping, dual screen per system.

  • Settings have been reworked to be easier to navigate (still needs further refinement) and is now all navigable via gamepad.

  • The Android Back button closes Jump.

  • Focus ring hugs the art. Wood theme handles shelves, towers and text colours itself.

  • Added the ability to deep search rom folders per-system or not (Deep searching shows folders within folders. It’s useful to turn this off if you have your Switch updates in a folder within your Switch rom folder and don’t want them to appear in Jump for example)

  • Plus button directly inside Collections for searching and adding games

And also some more bug fixes:

  • NetherSX2 showing “insert a disc" instead of loading into a game

  • Xbox 360 iso and XBLA bin files not being detected

  • Dolphin forks not launching

  • System bar flashing

  • Home not scrolling to the very top or bottom

  • Numbers in titles like Final Fantasy “V” or "5" not matching art properly

  • Two-button hotkey combos registering only single buttons.

  • Countless others that I’ve forgotten to write down

How the Game Switcher works:

RetroArch: Jump asks RetroArch to save and quit through its Network Commands. RetroArch saves the game to its ‘Auto save state’ slot and closes. The next time you launch that game, RetroArch loads that state. To set it up:
In RetroArch: Settings → Network → Network Commands (turn on Advanced Settings if you don’t see it), and turn on both ‘auto save’ and ‘auto load state’. Without Network Commands the game simply stays paused behind Jump and resumes where it was.
GameCube and Wii with Dolphin: Jump opens Dolphin's menu, presses Quick Save, then Exit. Picking the game later boots it and presses Quick Load once the picture is up. This is the one case where you see Jump working another app's menu on your screen, which is why it has its own switches.
PlayStation 2 with ARMSX2: Jump opens the in-game menu and presses Close. ARMSX2 saves on exit and loads on boot from its own settings. Set those in ARMSX2's LOAD panel: "auto-save on exit" and "auto-load last save on boot". Jump touches nothing else.
Everything else: PSP, Switch, Windows etc. games are left paused in the background. Jump takes a screenshot and opens the game switcher. Picking that game brings the paused emulator back to the front. This may cause the handheld fans to pick up or cause battery drain if loads of emulators are running in the background (untested but just a thought!)

How to get PC games launching:

In GameNative, go to Settings → Interface → Frontend Sync → tap the folder icon next to Steam (and all!) → choose the pc folder inside their roms folder → choose OK.
Or in Jump, go to Settings -> Library -> Add a PC game and manually search for and add your games there.

Thank you so much to everyone who is using Jump! Thank you so much to everyone who is continuing to subscribe and supporting me! I'll make sure to find a way to get you the updates even if you unsubscribe. I'll upload videos here showing tutorials, tips, etc for people who stay subscribed as well as new upcoming apps I'm working on. People who unsubscribe will keep getting Jump updates for free forever! :)

This is looking great. However, where is the artwork stored? I have scraped a large catalog and I cannot find where it is been stored?

Hi Ryan. Great work and loving my time with Jump so far. Any chance you can add Atari Jagaur to the systems please? thanks

Interesting front end, just too buggy at the moment. Something happened on the Thor. It originally launched with the shelf on the bottom screen and everything worked okay. Then it flipped to top screen shelf and nothing was launching properly. Switch and 3ds were opening but games wouldn't load

Could you add Seedless DS as an emulator option for Nintendo DS?

Hello Ryan! I've just recently joined. I love your frontend, it looks really promising and convenient in all possible aspects. I've seen your videos about Jump and the feature that captivated me the most is the per system theme configuration. When I saw your Xbox and PS3 shelves with the custom matching backgrounds I thought.. this looks almost perfect. So I came up with a suggestion: Custom menu sounds and background music per system (and collection). This way, Jump could mimick every console specific navigation feeling almost entirely. Think about the wii. A white, grey and blue background, all of the games on a white shelf, and on top of that the Wii menu music playing, and with every tap on the D-Pad to search for a game, the classic clicky wii menu sound. It would be the absolute dream experience. DS, Switch, PSP, Gameboy, all of them could be tuned by the user to have the most authentic navigation and nostalgia experience for every one of them. Also, since music and menu sounds would be fully customizable, this could apply to collections. Like an all Mario game collection with specific sounds and music, or a fighting game collection with some Street fighter or guilty gear music alongside Tekken menu sounds. Anything would be possible. I'm aware that this feature could become annoying if menu sounds and music change constantly. So I suggest two possible solutions. One would be a fading effect to make music transitions smooth. And the other one would be a simple toggle with the options "Custom music and sounds: Global, Per System (or collection), or off" Global would apply the same music and effects for all the app, and per system would use the custom configuration for each one when you navigate it. Off would deactivate custom music and effects entirely Now I've got a bit too excited explaining the idea. But please, consider it. -Amy

Ryan, How do I report bugs? I'm sure you already know about the game switcher issue with retroarch. You have to fully close retroarch when exiting out of a game or it won't launch for the next one.

Really great, but where do I post feature requests? Is that through the app feedback, or here? An option to display time and system status - things like WiFi, Bluetooth, etc, would be great. Adding iisu style ability to display system notifications would be cool, to prevent needing to swipe down on the touch screen. Colorisation of the text on specific systems would also be useful - I didn’t see an option to disable the red text on switch, for example. It’d be nice to choose which display the switcher is presented on for dual screen devices.

The new game switcher is amazing! I’d love to see future support for ZX Spectrum games as well :)

Awesome updates. Only thing that is keeping me from using it as my main frontend is that Duckstation doesn’t work when launching from Jump.

When I set Jump as my default launcher, then once i shut down/startup, I need to do a "rescan rom folder" before games will show up. Did I miss something?

N
NoeleyC · September 7, 2026

I've the same issue but I don't have Jump set as my default launcher, I seem to have to reselect my rom folder each time then the games appear

Any chance of adding Colecovision support (best Donkey Kong version ever)?

Can you please fix spine widths being incorrect on many systems? Also, when bringing up search windows you cannot close it using gamepad buttons only by tapping the screen

Having issues with the Game Switcher where I’ll try to load a game via Retroarch and it just goes to a black screen. If I close RA, go to the switcher again and try to load the game then it works. I can repeat this across multiple games across multiple systems.

Very cool. I will try and update later today. Not sure if I missed the option for the Pico-8 system to show up and launch the Android Pico-8 app. That would upgrade things for me 🤓

Looks like an awesome update. With the addition of Wii U and seeing how Gamenative works now I think this will be my primary front end.

Incredible work. Suggestion for Game Renamer: renaming all the 8 character NeoGeo roms to their actual names. Not that I’ve spent all day puzzling over my NeoGeo collection… 😅

Nemesis1984 · September 6, 2026

Thank you very much for adding WiiU and PC Games support and the ability to choose on which screen each systems opens on Dual Screen devices🙏 much appreciated. Jump is my default launcher now! Only need to figure out how to add my PSVita games but I had the same problem on other launcher. I see you managed to do so in your latest YouTube video.

Thanks Ryan! Hoping that as you roll out the updates, we'll get support for additional Arcade emulators within retroarch. The ability to hide some systems to clean up the menu's too would be a nice addition!
