Preview of the Upcoming Update

🚧 Upcoming Update Preview

In the upcoming update, a mechanic will be added that I probably should have implemented from the very beginning, as it is another fundamental system that fundamentally changes how the camera behaves and brings it even closer to realism.

⚙️ How It Works

The mechanic itself is very simple — essentially, it acts like a spring for camera offsets on all axes. The farther the camera moves from its neutral position, the more resistance it experiences.

This adds more dynamics to the camera's behavior, as well as additional information that it can communicate to the player.

🎥 Camera Movement

During aggressive maneuvers, the camera will shift quickly, while during smooth movements, it will shift more gradually.

You can also notice the difference in vertical movement. Instead of simply hitting a movement limit, the camera will gradually dampen its motion and exhibit a slight spring effect.

🔧 Work in Progress

Of course, this is not the final version, so many things will change before the update is released.

Is this done only with Lua?

Yes, because Lua is the only way to use physics calculations for camera movement; the standard NeckFX was just a temporary solution—it doesn’t include calculations based on head mass and so on; it’s simply a set of smoothing functions for camera movement. I’m still waiting for the CSP update because some data remains closed—for example, I can’t use a script to track wheel contact if the car lifts slightly off the road, so I can adjust the camera pitch to account for that event. Currently, my Lua code performs calculations based on several data points: g-force, suspension compression rate, body roll, vehicle weight, head mass, and its inertia. In the next update, I’ll add a spring to the camera’s basic mechanics; this will make the camera movements even more lifelike and distinct from how a standard NeckFX works. The CSP author provides access to a wealth of data, since the source code is closed-source and he reverse-engineers it to make this data publicly available
