25 videos I never finished in 20 minutes | THE FAILURE FILES

Some things just aren't meant to be completed.

That being said, I wish I managed to finish more things.

But here are some things I didn't! 25 of them to be exact.

This is sort of the video equivalent to a video I made a few years back, where I went through abandoned works in progress. This is a tour through abandoned videos I have in progress. Sadly they never turned into much, but at least I can briefly share them here!

When you think about the sheer number of things you do work on, film, finish, AND EDIT, it's amazing your ufo pile isn't bigger!! You've probably only got a 2% ufo rate, or less. I've got like 25%🤣

I love all of these! And i wonder if youd consider selling your ufos with notes on how far youve gotten, estimated measurements, at cost to at least cover fabric and notions costs? A project half made by you is worth my time to buy and finish 😋

Have you ever thought of hiring a video editor? It seems like being able to hand off the raw footage for someone else to deal with would be a weight off your mind. Just a thought! ❤️

No shame. Here we welcome "opportunities for growth" as my mom says....aka getting rid of stuff or ideas or goals of someone we arent right now or arent going to be anymore. Or just stuff we dont need/arent going to finish:p

I really think this is quite important content. Everybody has UnFinished projects - physical or digital or personal or whatever. And we all still seem to think we are alone in dragging out or abandoning projects all together. And we are ashamed about it. But you are right - some stuff is just not meant to be. And that is okay. And some stuff gets finished and still ends up being trashed, because it just didn’t work. We should probably talk more about this phenomenon. And we should try and focus more on the proces and the learning than keeping on staring at the ugly result - or lack of result. Great inventions are built on mountains of failed experiments. We seem to forget that. When going through and tidying my appartment (or trying to), I collected all sewing ufos in a big box. I counted them. There are 37. And I was ashamed like averybody else. But next time I go through that box, I’m gonna thank them all for what they taught me. Wheather I finish them or not. ❤️

Ok but as someone who also has OCD I am so into organising videos! They're so soothing and wonderful!

If there's one thing my messy life needs, it's content of you organizing. I love watching cleaning and organization videos while I work from home! It gives me motivation to clean my spaces

I'd love to see your organising videos! They sooth my soul.

I would LOVE to watch the buttons and beads organising videos, they're so satisfying.

Honestly, would love to see videos of failed projects. Wish this would become a thing... I get disappointed with what I make more than I would like to admit. It would be so nice to see that this happens to very talented people too. Also, knowing how mistakes happen, what does not work, having visuals of different outcomes (not only perfect ones) could be so helpful for us to become better crafters.

Yeah I would watch any of these videos, they could just have music over them or a repeat of your sounds of sewing video.

Veronica Persson Lightning · July 1, 2021

If you can have music and you can enter both intro and information and quit as usual. Or if it's not too much extra work, have the names of members rolling below. If they are good with quality and sound, then there are no problems here. You can go back to the beginning of those works, see why you wanted to do just that. Then ask yourself all the questions about it, but also where it is for you, if it is sad memory make it a fun memory, or do the job in memory of the bad.

I love all of your videos and I would honestly watch any of these if you decided to post them. Love the PJ video and silver dress video especially. But honestly any of them I would love!!

Oh gosh if you revisit any of these please revisit the 1860s plaid. I loved the materials you were using for that so much! And I just had a project that I had to scrap because the gorgeous, wonderful fabric I loved so much ended up looking just like a nightgown my gran used to have when sewn in the pattern. I mean, that nightgown was way cool, I just don't want to wear it as a dress when I go out in public. Tragic. Totally feeling you on the Tula disappointments.

I love all of your videos—I find them so inspiring. I think the ideas for organizing to lo-fi beats and sewing ASMR are great, and I would watch the heck out of them. On a related note, I appreciate your honesty regarding abandoned projects. I’ll peek on sewing Instagram every once in a while and it just seems like people are so productive and finish everything perfectly whereas I’m out here with like, bags of unfinished projects lol, so it’s nice to see one of my favorite sewing people acknowledging sometimes a project doesn’t go 100% as planned.

If you are worried about the algorithm, just make it organizing videos into a patron video.

Beth Egan · June 30, 2021

I would love watching anything you post so don’t sell yourself short. Have you ever considered finishing garments you don’t want to finish and donating them? Love all your buttons and beads! You must have so much patience to sort them all. Do you have an Etsy shop? Where do/did you sell those buttons? I love buttons! Take care of yourself!

e
eqqies art · June 30, 2021

Angela has an etsy shop where she sells patterns and occasional buttons, its called counted and curated

C
Camille Dishong · June 30, 2021

I always love your organizing videos. If you made a simple “sorting and organizing beads and buttons” out of the footage I’m sure lots of people would enjoy it

A
Adrianne Berndt · June 30, 2021

I love organization videos! Especially if they are about shiny things and buttons lol

T
Tabby · June 30, 2021

Could you sit down with the projects where you’ve completed them and filmed but not done the voice over and do a breakdown of how you made the project based on the finished garment, inserting footage where you have it?

Florentine Collens · June 30, 2021

Id love to see the footage of these vids especially the pyjama one i was really looking forward to seeing one day.

R
Rhonda O'Dea · June 30, 2021

Hi Angela, totally agree with all of the above. ASMR Videos are great. For me, just to see what and how you sew/stitch/attach... is helpful, as I'm a visual person and learn that way. Me thinks your tula pink pins need to be put away in a sealed container with some white sage. I'd definitely like to see an organising video because I need all the help I can get...I'm not an organised person 🤓 Sending best wishes from Down Under ❤️🌺🇦🇺😎

Holy SHEEP I would love to see the organizing videos. And yeah, like others have said: if you wanted to experiment with some videos that replaced the VO with captions or even just time lapsing, I'd be interested to see it! Some of my favorite content on YouTube is the "chill vibes as someone completes a task" genre.

R
Rachel Denbee · June 30, 2021

Hi Angela. As others have said, I would watch anything you share! Would you consider posting your unfinished vlogs as a series, maybe with a few captions explaining what the project is and why you didn't finish it? I would also love to see your footage of unfinished projects, maybe with a simple musical background so you don't have to worry about voiceovers. On the subject of unfinished projects, have you considered selling them? I would be honored to purchase something you have worked on! (However I live in New Zealand so that probably wouldn't be practical!)

Sarah Vermeland · June 30, 2021

I would love to see the bead and button organizing videos!

I think we’d watch anything you share! 💕

Ari McKay · June 30, 2021

As strange as it might sound, I think people would really like the sewing videos without a voice over if you want to post them without doing the voiceover... Sort of a sewing ASMR? I enjoy just watching, and if you think they are too long you could speed them up a bit? I love seeing the process even without explanation, then seeing the final garment. There are LOTS of videos like that out there, they really do have an oddly soothing quality!

This was super interesting! I love the concept and the thumbnail. For the videos about organizing stuff, I feel like there is definitely a genre for that on YouTube, and it was actually pretty fun to see the piles get organized at high speed haha. The videos I've seen like that usually have some low-fi in the background, and I think there's no shame in posting a satisfying timelapse. It's really impressive to see all your projects and all your creativity, even when it doesn't get finished or published!

I’d watch the hell out of organising videos, I find them very soothing and satisfying.

Angela, the unicorn pins are clearly bad luck lol. Even though a lot of projects weren’t finished, it’s nice to see the conclusion of them rather than wondering what happened to all the plans you mentioned. A bunch of my projects are going very badly so I can relate to this video
