Making a new dress and getting a new puppy! | Chatty Sewing Vlog
Hello everyone! I’m alive! I’ve been working on lots of stuff…some things more successful than others. None of which are close enough to completion to share yet.
Except for this quick little dress I made, and filmed a chatty vlog while making. I haven’t been in the mood to film chatty videos recently, but I wanted to talk a bit about my new dog and this seemed like a good format for that.
Speaking of my new dog…oh my god. I love her. But we think she is less than a year old and she is SUCH a puppy! And puppies are a lot of work. She just wants to play and eat everything and requires constant supervision!
She also had an issue that we thought was diabetes or kidney disease or some sort of compulsive disorder (because apparently I cannot adopt a healthy dog?). She became basically incontinent a week after adopting her, and quite literally had to go outside every 5~ minutes (not exaggerating). She also started drinking 12+ cups of water a day.
This went on for weeks and prevented me from sewing (since she would pee while crated) or even editing, since I needed such frequent breaks to take her out. Luckily it appears this was just a response to the food her foster family was using - something called Fantoni-like Syndrome. Now she is on a different brand, and doing a million times better, and for the first time in a month I have gotten THINGS DONE!
So here is a video, the result of getting THINGS DONE and there are more to come in the next few days! Including a “Making of” video I’m posting tonight.
Thank you so much for your patience and support! Especially over the past couple months.
Angela
PS : I don't know if I actually said her name in this video? The puppies name is Minnie! Short for Hermione, the daughter of Helen of Troy. Her foster name was Haylee, and I wanted something that sounded similar but kept my greek mythology theme. She also looks just like a miniature Brittany!

My cats are very attached to me and one in particular. It’s quite funny. He tries to act like he’s a big strong boy ( well, he is five) but as soon as there’s a sneeze, or the gardener cutting the grass he needs lots of encouragement. Devon Tex cats are vocal anyway, he is just more so. Howls for me all the time. I’ve had dogs in the past I think you are doing all the right things
When our cat had her second litter one of them had a heart condition. We decided to keep her for the same reason as you - we could afford to give her the healthcare she needed. Sadly she is the one I mentioned who passed away but she had a full and happy life with us
I feel the same about my cats. We have a family group of three Devon Rex. We lost the daughter two years ago to a heart condition and it still hurts
First of all the dress is gorgeous! About dealing with separation anxiety in dogs, our puppy is about 15 months old now and being a covid puppy was so used to us being home all the time that when we started to go back to work in person it was a really tough adjustment. One thing that we found helpful was to build up to extended periods away. Leaving him alone in the house for just a few minutes at a time and building up to more extended periods of separation. He's still not perfect but he's definitely getting much better at being alone now. Also creating positive associations can be helpful, like puzzles with treats for them to solve while alone, or by giving treats and positive reinforcement in the car. I would also suggest a more gradual approach to that too, with shorter car rides and lots of treats. Hopefully Minnie and Posy will also find comfort in each other as they get to know each other better and as they adjust to each other's energy and comfort levels. Best of luck!
Poor Posey. Anxiety is so miserable. Hopefully Minnie can help soothe her in time.
Love this dress! Turned out super cute!
When my mom adopted a second dog, the first one had to go on Prozac for a while to cope with the change. Definitely talk to your vet about trying medication for Posie. It may not be forever, but it can help the transitional phase.
My dog went through a similar phase when we got a new puppy. He was pretty upset and actually gave me the cold shoulder for months :') I think it's just a little bit of jealousy + having a rowdy new puppy is equally annoying to the old dog as it is to you! Puppies take a lot of energy to be around I think the main thing is just give her time to adjust and be understanding. It took my old dog nearly a year to warm up fully to the new puppy and to forgive me for the betrayal of diverting even just an ounce of my attention from him lol With time as the new puppy matures I'm sure they will get along just fine and have good fun <3
It’s so great seeing and hearing you again!
the good treats might help, make the crate a place where the very good treats are given. put something that smells like you, like sit on a towel while your working in your sewing room and make that the Posie crate towel. maybe a kong type mind puzzle. you might get Minnie her own place too and teach them both that they have there safe dens.
The nervous nelly Boston, Bruno, had to use a thundershirt for awhile. He howled and cried and froze when he was stressed. He is nearly normal now . I think we used it for about a month in stressful situations. You can get them on Amazon. I had never had a nervous dog before and nothing I did helped. He would urinate where he stood if startled. ♥️
Okay, I had to pop in to say, this dress!! Oh my stars! You have out done yourself! It is so fun, so perfect for summer, flatters your figure beautifully! I'm so glad you shared. :-) Your new puppy is adorable.....I hope they warm to each other soon. Great video!
We have five dogs. The oldest is 10.5 about 70lbs a Jack Russell/Boxer/Pitbull mix she is the matriarch, then we have a 8.5 year old Mastiff/pitbull mix and is 85 lbs big old duffus, then we have a 3 year old Boston he’s a nervous nelly and would not play. March of 2020 The Hubs brought home two Frenchies. We had no issues and the Boston now plays. (@lunaticfarms on insta if interested in pics) The Mastiff did have a problem with our sons German Shepard. We solved it with walks. We started with them being walked by separate people then with one person on the way home. It resolved itself easily. But Friday lives with my son so it took a couple of visits. Two years on they have zero issues. 🌈🌈🦋🦋
OMG, such a cute puppy!!! Congratulations!!!
Well this is adorableeeee and im so happy your pup is all better!
I see that pink and white striped linen in the clearance section every time I go to JoAnn but I’ve never found a use for it, so I’d love to see it made into that Butterick pattern!
