Devlog #8
This devlog is allllll about Jim and his sprite and, boy oh boy, did he turn out handsome. (In my humble opinion.) The header above is my reaction to seeing his new sprite as I was making it.
Alright, geez, well I must have made over 20 Jim head variations before landing somewhere I could live with. Then, I was still picky about his proportions, subtle hue shifts, and his hair was pissing me off. But I really have to get him right because this. Is. His. Sprite. If I am going to be consistent with future art and such, his sprite has to be tight- clean.
I know I have limited CGs comparatively to other VNs, but personally I prefer a more varied and complex sprite instead. I feel like it keeps me more immersed. CGs feel...like a change in perspective in a way.
And I'm really happy how he turned out. Very pleased. It took me forever, but now I have a new doll to move around my board. All his animations/emotions are done (not pictured) and I'll be testing them later in renpy, but I expect it'll be smooth with my current code.
Winter gear is updated and he's ready for fun snow times. And look! A rare Jim smile in the middle there.
Here's a lil progress of Jim from the back. I know he shows it for a hot minute on day 2 and that's it, but we'll be seeing more of him in various angles in day 3. Next up on the list for assets is Jim's body from the side. By the end of this, I'll have a complete character turnaround yay. Then, there are some of Jim's various arm poses/animation. So much work for the love of the game.
I doodled FemJim at some point. Jimmifer. Jimantha. Jimberly. Someone asked me about Female Jim and she's basically the same. Only a bit more socially aware and with slightly more "feminine" features and voice. Still the same ol' tall babe. As with many long haired men, he already gets mistaken as a girl from behind sometimes.
Finally, a WIP of what it feels like at the height of making a VN/interactive story. Just a gamedev power tripping in the world they made and control completely.

He looks very expressive and warm inside to me. You delivered, goodness gracious! I really love different angles for characters and he looks like his movements could be silk-smooth near you. But also very anxious, trembling hands, like a cold spirit passing through, and despite all that, radiating an unknown warmth that's either comforting or terrifying to some.

I have a question (if you can know and not be a spoiler) does Jim have any formal work? How is it economically maintained?

how do you think jimmy would feel about a witchy mc? one that lit incense, conjured spells in the guest room, just overall was into the occult and was kinda superstitious.
He'd be shortly surprised before mostly having radical acceptance and curiosity. Assuming he trusts the MC and all of that jazz.

Ah, sorry for the extra comment, I had 2 things id like to ask, 1. Im taking a screen printing class, and for our last lesson we can screenprint on the front and back of a shirt, I just wanted to ask if it was ok if I made an Opferfleisch shirt after redrawing the original , mostly bc I cant remember if there's a transparent png and drawing it seems like a challenge. But id also love to have a physical representationof the game i love . And #2 So, I wasn't actually familiar much with primal kink, but in my reading (lol nerd alert I know) I saw something that made me ponder, apparently there's a hunter-prey dynamic and i immediately thought of a scenario where maybe we get let loose in the woods and are (consensually) hunted down (probably after a good while into the relationship with good trust that we won't like, actually try to run off) is that something Jimothy would want to try? He can even give us a sporting head start LMAO
1. Go ahead ^^ I've tried block printing his Opferfleish shirt before and I have a lot to learn lmao. Screen printing seems like the way to go. Good luck! 2. He'd be on board and yes, probably in established relationship scenario. For any of his "kinks" that are alluded to in-game, he might feel things and note it but ultimately lack the awareness of what it means, if that makes sense? It's all subconscious and suppressed for now haha
