DRAFT of the video on elon's loop
right so this is a first draft of a vidya about elon's dumb loop system
looking for some feedback so maybe I can make alterations before the full version is released this weekend. unsure if the pacing feels right or if some stuff feels disjointed or maybe i didn't explain some points as well as i could, especially in the second half -- let me know in them there comments because i value your feedback
oh also it probably won't be full quality for another 45 minutes or so after i post this just fyi

The AM/FM joke slew me and taught me what the acronym stands for. I'm assuming FM is in actuality Future, or Fictional Machines. Fucking Magic cuts to the heart of it though in terms of real world impact so I think that'll be my actual go to. Thanks again for the content.
the AM/FM part at the 26:33 mark could be moved to earlier when you introduce the AM/FM concept.
2019 WILL BE THE YEAR OF LINUX ON THE DESKTOP.
Donoteat calmly DESTROYS Elon Musks existance for just under 40 minutes.
Structure works really well! Though if you want to cut or tighten anything up I think the gadgetbahn part could be more concise. There’s also an LA commuter study that showed even when you control for cost convenience etc people will always say trains are better than buses. The authors chalked it up to buses’ “image problem” which is a weird way to say racism. So gadgetbahn like you say is not only to hoodwink people into thinking it’s something new it’s also convincing people that they’re “allowed” to ride it and not be park of the stinking masses that use buses or trains. If you said something similar sorry I’d forgotten. Writing this a few minutes after watching.
Cool to see one of the O-bahn buses on the video, I am from Adelaide where we actually have one of the only guided busways in the world, surprisingly for what it is it actually does service the North Eastern suburbs well especially as Adelaide suffers chronic urban sprawl so having the ability of buses to be able to go from the suburbs onto the O-Bahn and usually into the CBD is beneficial. The big issue is as the O-Bahn is nearing or passed 30 years old most of its track is due for replacement or serious repair so Ideally it should be replaced by Trams which costly would work out better as the recent tramline extension almost reaches the newly built tunnel that removed a heap of bus traffic from the roads. Also tragically Adelaide had its extensive tram network ripped up in the 1950s which then followed up with the construction of the Holden car factory (GM owns Holden) and as of last year that factory officially closed. Our states previous government who were in power for almost 15 years actually have rebuilt large sections of the network and had starting doing a CBD loop with extensions out north, east and west even possibly to the airport. Sadly we got a conservative government and that all got stopped, they have also cut bus services in poorer outer areas.
I live in Morgantown, WV and I just wanted to note that the PRT has its use for students at WVU, carting them around the campus to each stop. It's actually useful for students because the traffic in our town in particular is so bad for many reasons. On the other hand however I would think that it's very expensive to keep up, it's almost always breaking down/having stoppages, and could've probably been replaced by a better solution before it was even built. Reason I'm mentioning this is because I'm not sure it really fits with the "would be better replaced by trains" theme of that section of the video because of the specifics of the situation. During the fall and spring semesters, the amount of people in Morgantown nearly doubles, so trains/subways might not be an actual solution to the issue, as opposed to something like buses. As a solution to that small problem I suggest that you just be more general and have the theme for that section be "would be better replaced by conventional public transit" or something along those lines rather than talk specifically about trains.
so, what i was trying to get there was stuff that was a "one-off or less" i guess. tbf i'm not sure if i was being to generous by mentioning morgantown and wuppertal, since both those systems are fairly successful at what they do, but i'm not sure how many other "gadgetbahns" folks would be familiar with, especially those which failed or which never even saw the light of day. (i.e. most of them)
Some of the audio drops you added overpower your voice. Other than that mild issue, great work.
As someone with absolutely no knowledge of football, the Marc brunell football jokes were very confusing.
Seems complete to me. I like how you threw in a bit of advice on how to get involved with our local transit politics.
For the love of god leave the Marc Brunel football jokes in the finished product
My only complaint is that you never mention that Elon Musk anagrams out to Lone Skum, but it's not directly relevant so this is a very minor complaint.
Quick question, where does something like a busways fit into the universe of "not trains"? Some systems can be a simple as a bus and a 2 lane road built to highway specs for fast travel, all the way to specialty vehicles with wacky schemes to be not a train.
well a bus doesn't have to prove it's not a train, since it's a bus i wouldn't put bus lanes and guided busways into the "gadgetbahn" category since they aren't one-off systems, they're proven solutions that work in hundreds of cities worldwide
Would it be better to identify that the Green New Deal is not really of the left but of the liberal center-left because of America's screwed up idea of what the left is, and that the ones arguing for mass public transit now using time tested solutions are squarely from the actual left?
the boring project is just elon getting us to dig his giant fallout shelter in case he can't get to mars before we hit 2 degrees
Looked all right to me.
Love it! Any chance of a video on the even less practical hyoerloop? Its great to see someone being critical of Mr Musk who’s not also obsessed with SJWs and feminism. It’s amazing how little musk criticism there is on YouTube. You should do a preview version of this like you did for killdozer. I bet you’ll get several hundred new patreons come over from T’foot.
I loved the video! On a small side note; I would show the calculations for the car movement rates on the screen for the special people out there. <3 PS. Just to one up the person who mentioned helicopters as the most energy intensive way to move people: rockets!
I'm not sure if you need more arguments against the loop, but something that struck me when I saw the proposal is how the elevators and in fact pretty much the whole system won't be able to handle larger vehicles like buses, lorries or even vans (not to mention trucks), which at least in my city greatly contribute to congestion. Also, did I understand correctly that the cars are expected to go 150 miles per hour under their own power? How many non-sports car can even theoretically go that fast?
I was gonna say don't shit on the Wuppertal suspension railway, but then I read it's out of service til mid 2019 because of a crash that put the whole system out of service and they currently use replacement buses
Halfway through and it’s already fantastic quality. Good to see one of the South Australian O-Bahn buses show up - I was going to mention them. Particularly, some of the many image search results under “Adelaide O-Bahn crash” might be helpful to illustrate your point about the safety concerns.
The drawings are funny, but I'd replace the venn diagram with a cleaned up version or an actual venn diagram.
love it. my only problem is i want you to elaborate on everything all the time until the video is 20 hours
Minor thing that doesn't really matter, but I didn't notice anything else. Bertha already finished digging in Seattle, the the tunnel is essentially done. More importantly, I wouldn't be surprised to see a response video from Thunderf00t attempting to critique your video whilst also agreeing with your main arguments. Looking forward to the final cut!
I highly doubt he would do that. While I strongly disagree with his bizarre obsession with SJWs and feminism, I think he will welcome more critical thinking about Musk’s proposals since he seems to be a lone voice in a wilderness full of Musk fanboys.
Tiny editorial note: at 23:58, you say “CEO” but the caption says “Chief Operating Officer”. Otherwise I think this looks great!
Omfg this is a masterpiece, especially the part where you insert the goddamned Port Authority of Allegheny Transit Fucking Magic Sky Bus Scheme, I was on the floor laughing at that reference. However, one pratfall that you should watch out for is that Elon and his Boring company themselves have rolled back on their specifications in the FM frequency and are giving numbers approaching the AM frequency. Perhaps somewhere you might want to address the weasel Elon's shifting projections in an attempt to steelman Elon's stupid ideas and cut off his fans from giving you unjustified crap about it.
Also, I believe Helicopters are the least efficient mode of human transportation, so there's that. Those people thinking we'll be using large quad copter drones for personal transport, like those PR monstrosities they have in Dubai, are in the FM world.
Did I miss a joke or did you misspell "low tolerances"
and this is why we have drafts!
Switch the Over 9000 scene with Goku explaining SSJ2 by saying "And this is is what is known as a super saiyan that has ascended past a super saiyan" Because it makes about as much sense as what Elon is saying with an abstract increase in power. https://youtu.be/5vWqnKhQhUM?t=15
Last time, on Dragon Ball AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-"
I liked it a lot. I think you could cut it a bit shorter in some parts, esp. in the first half. Keep all the parts with the custom animations and diagrams, they were great, but in between that the pacing was a bit slow imo.
You very briefly touched on it, but you might expand a bit more on how grossly under-funded mass transit is on a federal level. I live in the 7th largest city in the US, yet trying to get the city to fund anything beyond maybe a new bus line once every decade seems now like a cruel joke. They're just too expensive, we're told, while the costs of freeway expansion is massive the city doesn't pay the brunt of it. Also the public will isn't there, tax measures to fund a light rail system have failed twice. We almost got really close in the form of a downtown street car as federal funds under Obama became available. It wasn't perfect but it was something. Unfortunately the mayor who was spearheading that, decided to leave to do nothing under the Obama admin and the replacement killed the project without any public input. Oh and that mayor who left us? Just announced his president candidacy and got immediately dunked on by all of Twitter. Anyways, thanks for reading my story.
Something that stuck out: at 28:55 you say that "Bahn" is the German word for road/railroad. It does translate to railroad (as well as "train" and "rail"), however the German word for 'road' -- or because German is weirdly specific, 'a road cars drive on' -- is actually "Straße." https://en.pons.com/translate?q=Bahn&l=deen&in=ac_de&lf=en I'm by no means an expert on the German language though, so if someone more fluent wants to correct me, by all means. EDIT: Listen to Paul; not me.
The explanation in the video was actually OK, Bahn is usually used for Rail but the word origin is the Road part of Railroad. Hence Autobahn (lit. car road), Eisenbahn (lit. iron road = railroad)
Its really good. I love your swipes at the Jeep. <3 <3 <3
groverhaus!
@6:00 minutes in: I've just realized this is how Simon Gruber managed to rob the Federal Reserve's NY gold bullion vault, and it's suddenly obvious, Elon's true master plan! I knew this shit was FDR's fault somehow.
bookmarking this in my mind
thirst refreshing this video
I want it so bad.
can't watch the vid yet but geez pretty cool that you can just do this and we can just give feedback. unironically just striken by how neat that is!
