update for the patrons and everyone
some folks were asking if i was alive so i figured i ought to give an update: i am in fact alive.
so basically i'm gonnna try and do this: the next video is on elon musk's "loop" which is distinct from the "hyperloop". there should be a draft of that up this weekend or early next week. i'm gonna try and get feedback from the patrons before it goes before a wide audience. then i hope to get the next episode of franklin out this month, along with *hopefully* a bonus episode of some kind -- i don't know what to do it on though.
tbh i'd kinda like to keep the bonus episodes as kinda frivolous fun topics like killdozer as opposed to "socially useful" episodes on stuff like red vienna -- that stuff ought to go out to the widest possible audience. uh, lemme know what you think.

It's appropriate that the capitalist system of Patreon is rewarded with nothing but fluff. Loved the two bonus episodes so far, btw.
Count me as another fan of the “keep the socially useful episodes free” plan. What about a bonus video on the High Speed Ground Transportation Act? Between the Metroliners, the TACV tests in Pueblo, CO, and the lessons learned, do you think there’s enough there for a standalone video?
I like how you type the same way you talk
I'm totally cool with bonus episodes are fine being kinda fun side things. Don't work yourself to death, man. Looking forward to the episodes :)
I like your plan and reasons for the bonus episodes!
Really glad to hear from you again! And I totally agree with this direction you proposed. As silly as it sounds to be inspired by a goon making video game content on youtube, you've gotten me inspired to be more politically active in my own area.
If you're doing a Musk-themed loop episode, what about a bonus episode that talks about something tangentally related to another of musk's projects, like Solar City and the idea of Tesla grid-walls on a community? Or it gets me thinking about these massive factories (like a Tesla or SpaceX facility) that get built out in what seems to be remote areas, what kind of impact does that have and what does that mean for people who lived in these towns when suddenly you have a lot of scientists and engineers earning large salaries that move out there vs a city. Is there anything of interest going on there? Barring that the whole Cape Canaveral space race development might be fun. Other than that, I dunno, good to see progress and the guest visits. Just keep makin' what you want.
i am glad you're, in fact, alive.
I trust you to present ideas, philosophies, policies and events I may not be aware of in ways that are interesting and entertaining. Therefor, I have no opinion on what should come next, but I'm excited for it!
I agree with you that something about Elon Musk should be opened to wider audience. Tying that into a larger critique of so called benevolent billionaires would be pretty cool, especially how it impacts infrastructure, schools, etc.
Sounds good, to be honest you where go so long I donated on patron to see some more content (kildozer). Also neat cammeo in knowing better.
I approve of this plan
Part of keeping the bonus episodes on the 'frivolous fun' stuff is it's mentally and emotionally refreshing after staying in The Serious Place for the socially necessary stuff, and that can really help against burnout, I find. But you know I'm gunna *smash that like button* for whatever you put out
All good man. Love the content, and as a web designer myself, I definitely appreciate the amount of time and effort it takes to put one of these together. Heck, it would be fun to see a live stream on Twitch as you plan out an episode in Cities and I assume premier/after effects.
Yes please, send the "socially useful" episodes out to everyone. Part of the point of Patreon is "paying so everyone else gets it", or paying so that you can continue doing work that your patrons feel benefits society, and the Patreon bonuses are just the cherry on top. The more people know about stuff like public housing the better off we all are because it makes such programs more likely to pass. It's a service to society to spread the word about things like Red Vienna, especially in a way that's entertaining and thus easily shareable.
absolutely support making all the "useful" episodes free. I Patreonize folks to make content for everyone, not just for myself and the other "paying customers", and that goes double for educational content
Is the Gilets Jaunes stuff still happening?
I'm all for it, sounds like a solid plan!
yee
You could always do Franklin Gowen, president of the Philadelphia & Reading, and his unethical war against unionization of the Anthracite fields by branding them as "Molly Maguire" terrorists. Hmm, actually, that's a bit less frivolous. You could do a bonus episode on the Great Boston Molasas flood that killed a bunch of people but is now viewed as a sort of joke.
I support this plan
Who doesn't like their frivolities hilarious and macabre, so hows about something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Molasses_Flood or another "Time Life Mysteries of The Unknown" kind of entry?
aw man this would be fun, yeah
Definitely stick to lighter stuff and trivia for the patreon exclusives. They make better rewards and it means all the really important stuff is stuff I can share easily.
I'd *like* more socially useful episodes because they're so damn great...BUT, I agree that those sorts of things are better to the widest possible audience
Agreed, keep the super informational ones open and the killdozer like topics for the patrons.
The streetcar conspiracy as told by who framed roger rabbit
"tbh i'd kinda like to keep the bonus episodes as kinda frivolous fun topics like killdozer as opposed to "socially useful" episodes on stuff like red vienna -- that stuff ought to go out to the widest possible audience." +1
Yeah, I agree with the idea of keeping the bonus episodes more frivolous
Call Hasan, he needs your help.
All of this sounds great. Looking forward to it. What about doing something about the WTO Seattle riots?
Glad to hear you're alive, hope you can stay that way
