Jongho takes on the harder power vocals in the group and often steps out of the dance to sing. He focuses more on his voice, and not so much dance, but the group has always said if he split the time before both he would out perform them all. (He needs all the air he can so I don’t blame him taking it easier on the dancing. People are harsh on him for it.) I adored your breakdown. It’s nice when someone says that he has put in the hours. (I do want to say during this that San and Mingi were sick. ) Their diversity in sound is something I adore most!

lol since you kept nonstop praising seonghwa and he's kinda my bias(wooyoung hahhh) I know want you to react to his lee mujinm service it drove me crazy how he just changed it up to do the rap parts of the members to then singingggggg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM2-dWVD7XM&list=RDpM2-dWVD7XM&start_radio=1 This is not the original vid but the other one has kind of like interviews in between so i thught you would like just the performance. If xou want to "watch" him sing (this is audio only) i recommend the full one and maybe u skip to the performances? ( they shoud be easy to find they mark them as their always the beginnning of the "chapter" in the vid!)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qV4IizJmFas&list=RDqV4IizJmFas&start_radio=1

I joined your patreon just for this analysis of ATEEZ’s Killing Voice and it did not disappoint! As one of the rare Kpop group *not* from one of the big 4 Kpop agencies that dominate the charts and are basically Kpop idol factories churning out high concept bands as more of a business, (and you know how chaebols dominate the South Korean market and play dirty to ensure disruptors can’t typically make it far) ATEEZ are the rare “indie” Kpop idol band that actually reaches these highest levels of fandom and not only gets top-tier accolades like Billboard 200 #1 debuts and charting on Billboard Hot 100 (in fact, they’re the *only* non-Big4 kpop group that’s ever achieved those accolades — to say nothing of the fact that they were the FIRST kpop boy group to play Coachella!). All this they’ve achieved on raw talent, passion, hard work, and INCREDIBLE live performances that blow the top off the typical kpop live shows. If you even get the chance to see them in-person, DO! And also, please react to their four Kingdom live performances and their Weekend 1 Coachella performances! P.S. please check out the work music video HALAZIA to hear those Yeosang low notes Bennett mentioned!

I feel like you might find this handy video of ATEEZ saying their names to be helpful https://youtu.be/B5czvMlQT20?si=1T8if4lL4LlJK4Wz

Joined Patreon just so I can watch this whole video. Amazing reaction!! I love the analysis too. ATEEZ is considered the theater group of kpop. I would recommend you watching their MBC Gayo Daejejeon The Real and Lemon Drop/Arriba + Django stage and SBS Gayo Daejeon Wonderland stage. ATEEZ was also the first kpop boy group to perform at Coachella so I would love to see your reaction to their stage. Week 2 would be better bc it has better camera work.

I wish I could somehow show this to young Seonghwa crying in the recording booth and practicing after everyone else left for the day. I guess I am more parasocial than I thought because I really got emotional a few times hearing him getting praise for something he works so hard on. Jongho is AMAZING live. He really blew my socks off in concert. His voice is so powerful and intense that you feel it in your soul. Definitely top three vocalists I have heard in person. No doubt. Thank you for the reaction! I really enjoyed all of the feedback and explanations. They are all so good and unique to each other. I am happy that Killing Voice exists to showcase this side of them.

So much to enjoy from these guys! I had my Amazon Music open in another window and was adding things as I listened to your reactions- at one point I pressed play on Work and was like ooohhhh this is gooood! added it and then it played on Killing Voice lol. I also immediately thought Mingi sounded very similar to Felix in terms of his deep, gritty rap voice. But, not exactly the same. His singing voice is different and his rapping has its own character, too.

Sharon · January 19, 2026

I just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was equating the two or erasing Mingi and calling him "the Felix of ATEEZ"- I'm not, at all. They are different people with different stories and different vocal qualities and I would never want to diminish any artist by saying they're just a version of another artist. It's just that Stray Kids is really my first KPOP group and the one I know the most about and have listened to the most (pretty much exclusively for the last 3 months) and I'm just starting to branch out into other KPOP. Comparing and contrasting is part of how we understand new things, and there is enough similarity between Mingi and Felix's rapping voices that when I first heard him I thought "hey, he and Felix sound a lot alike." It's enough so that I would enjoy a deeper look at exactly how they are similar and how they are different, like the comparison that Tim did between Felix and the one from SB19 (can't remember his name at the moment). I'm not sure if you thought I was contributing to problematic erasure or if you were highlighting something going on that I had no idea was happening, but I just want to make it clear that I respect and appreciate each of these guys in their own right and don't see them as interchangeable in any way.

Sorry in advance for the long comment, ATEEZ is my ult group and Jongho's my ult bias, so... I'm gonna have a lot to say. For the record, Mingi and San were both sick during this. San less so, but Mingi was so sick that he lost his voice after and was put on strict vocal rest. He's not normally quite that raspy. Also, Jongho breaks apples *while singing.* What makes it impressive is that the effort is barely audible in his voice. I'm glad you said he wasn't just born with a gift. He himself has commented that people call him talented when he actually worked really hard (he started at ~13 and persevered despite his previous company's staff repeatedly telling him he didn't sound good after his voice broke). Because of his skill and dedication (and possibly also because he's the youngest), the other members call him their pride. On featuring Jongho so much, I suspect the parts were chosen strategically to showcase those impactful notes. But, in general, he does have a lot of lines and many of them are quite challenging. In my opinion, it's one of ATEEZ's strengths. Where other groups generally have more balanced responsibilities for each member in terms of dance/performance and vocals/rap, Jongho shoulders a lot of the tougher vocals, giving the others room to earn their nickname "performance kings." It was actually Jongho's vibrato that first got me interested in ATEEZ! I was pretty resistant to getting into a new group, but my sister showed me a song called HALA HALA and his vibrato was just wow. Then HALAZIA sealed the deal. I'm so glad you explained his "almost jazzy" part. It's been my favourite of his parts since I first heard it. Ngl, he does have a habit of closing his eyes when he's singing ballads, which he favours when he's not with ATEEZ. For everything else, he tends to stare into the camera intensely enough that I've heard another ATINY say it's too intimidating 🤣 For the others because I swear I'm not only a fan of Jongho: San's falsetto is truly the most beautiful I think I've ever heard from a man. Wooyoung and Yeosang have great voices, though they get fewer lines than the rest, especially in title tracks (which was most of this Killing Voice). Their solo songs show how much of a crime that is 💀 The way Hongjoong experiments with his deliveries is always so interesting. Yunho's breathy moments are lovely (the beginning of UTOPIA is probably my favourite of his parts). Mingi brings such a unique tone to the group, I always think of him and Jongho as the powerhouses. And Seonghwa's versatility is amazing (and his stability is no joke either), especially considering he wanted to be a rapper, lol. Hongjoong is the other main rapper, but this was filmed shortly after he had a chance to showcase his raps on another program, so I suspect he didn't prioritise himself when they chose what sections would be in this medley. I have a million recommendations, but this comment is definitely long enough.

About pronunciation, what helped me a lot was learning the Korean alphabet, Hangeul. I know it might be a bit too much, since KPop is just a fraction of your reactions. But for example in the ONF reaction, you asked how to pronounce the group's name, when you even put it in the title: 온앤오프 온 - on 앤 - en 오프 - off 😉

N
Norbert Follrich · January 18, 2026

Thanks for the reaction. It was great to see you break down all the members' voices and appreciate all their talent or better hard work they put in to become great vocalists. And of course they are great dancers, too. And yes, there are dozens if not hundreds of groups on this level out there. Groups that are not that popular or don't have the backing of one of the big four companies still consist of amazingly talented, hard working artists! I'm looking forward to many Killing Voices breakdowns in the future!

Thanks Norbert, they really are fascinating. I am happy to do some pronunciation work since I have a feeling I’ll be reacting to Korean artists for a long time.

Bennett · January 18, 2026

Pronunciation: Jongho = JONG-oh (rhyming with 'song'; you said it like joong-ho) San was good Wooyoung = OO-young (you clocked that the W is silent, but then kept saying it, haha) Yeosang = YO-song (mostly okay, but stress the first syllable) Hongjoong = HONG-joong (oo like 'food'! you said hong-jong a lot; the syllables should not rhyme) Yunho = YOO-no (you mostly got it right; it's literally the english words 'you know', I frequently sing his name instead in the 'I know, you know, Lee Know' line from JJAM) Mingi was good! sorry for mixing up hard/soft G (that was embarrassing) Seonghwa = SONG-wah (you also mostly got this right! just wanted to reiterate)

B
Bennett · January 18, 2026

It won't let me edit my comment, but you also were adding a G in the middle of Yunho's name. Jongho & Yunho's first syllables shouldn't sound the same, but you were taking part of each and putting it in the other. Hopefully this is helpful! I just know you wanted to say them right. You can also revisit their silly introduction song at the end of the intro video to hear them say it :)

B
Bennett · January 18, 2026

I feel like I'm being judged! (kidding) Jongho is definitely doing the HIGH part of the harmony happening in WAVE! They're just not showing the person doing the low part on screen. Hopefully further in when you get to see the others sing, that becomes more obvious ;-;

B
Bennett · January 18, 2026

Also, I put the note about Yeosang mostly for the future; I don't think we get to hear too much of his deep singing voice here. It's the MOST obvious in Halazia, which you will surely watch someday (one of their best songs, and it's wild they didn't sing any of it here). I also did specify that he has the deepest SINGING voice, not voice in general, in that he hits lower notes than anyone else. Mingi is probably capable of it, but he's busy rapping; if he started taking the low singing notes, Yeosang would be out of a job (kidding)!
