Hazbin Hotel-Season 1 Episode 4

It was so interesting to think about the contrast between val/angel and fizz/mammon. Of course, val is more blatant, his façade is barely hidden… but he has angel under contract, and at this point, i’m pretty sure we don’t know the clauses and how angel could break it. fizz, on the other hand, was in DEEP! Ten years under mammon,.. and mammon couldn’t just do whatever he wanted. he’s a showman who needs to keep up appearances and manipulate fizz into making it HIS idea to stay and make Mammon money. idk…i can ramble all day, just thoroughly enjoying your reactions!

A lot of people have speculated that during the dance section in Poison is what Angel sees while he dissociates.. It's quite sad when you think about it 🥲

It's never weird to feel stuff, even for fictional characters. Just means you got empathy, and that's a good thing! And yea.. For me, that gets harder as I get older, but just means cheap emotional manipulation doesn't affect anymore!

I, too, get goosebumps for a lot of their interactions because of how sweet it is to watch them grow as characters! Husk and Angel's friendship (or wherever they choose to go with it in future seasons,) is my favorite relationship in this show. But Hell, I also get goosebumps listening to Piss (which you heard during the broadway concert) and Gravity, two very different songs 😂 It's so weird! Angel is hands down my favorite character. I can't wait for you to get through this season and even more so, season 2!

This is by far the best episode of Hazbin Hotel and there are so many great ones to choose from, but the storytelling in this one is just perfect from start to finish. Every scene is great. The two songs are the best musical numbers in the whole show. Poison is one of the most amazingly edited pieces of animation I've ever seen and it communicates so much depth. Loser, Baby is probably the most uplifting song I have ever heard. This episode just swings you around and it feels so intimate. A lot of Hazbin Hotel focuses on these really big events happening in heaven and hell but this one just feels like you're getting to know these people.

Keith David is the VA for the entire canon series. What you read is referring to Husk in the pilot who was voiced by Mick Lauer. But everything you've seen is Keith David. I recommend the pilot at some point. While its only semi canon, it predates Helluvaboss and has the first original Vivziepop song that got everyone hooked.

As always, I adore your takes on this. Yeah, this episode is designed the way it was on purpose, Poison is the fall, and then the conversation with Husk is his admission of his self-loathing, and then Loser Baby is the first steps to picking himself back up. The dance scenes and positive stuff in Poison is all as he said in the song him "disassociate, disappear"ing. The building relationship between Angel and Husk is my favorite thing in the show.

Loser Baby is the antidote to Poison. Poison makes you uncomfortable and it's supposed to. It's a really uncomfortable thing to watch and the contrast of the upbeat music and the really dark lyrics and context around it is 100% intentional. But then Loser Baby comes and dissolves that tension you're left with after Poison and makes everything better again. Angel Dust is one of my favourite characters. He's so complex, there's so much more to him than meets the eye, and he definitely has some of the best songs in the show. Plus, I love gender non-conforming characters. He and Husk really do have a wonderful relationship and it just gets better and more interesting as the series continues. The contract Valentino showed is a soul contract. So Angel isn't just his employee, when Val says he owns him, it's really true, and it's horrifying. That's what makes a sinner an Overlord, though: owning other sinners' souls.

Here's an idea: Why not have you, your daughter and her gf react to the Pilot? They get introduced to the show & you see would see the initial world building and voice actors before the official cast was set.

I feel like the dancing scene within Poison is inside Angel's head. It's like in Sucker Punch, it's an internal way of coping with a harsh reality.
