Hazbin Hotel Season 1 Episode 2

Fun as always! Definitely more of a 'create the conflict' type of episode. I can feel we are building the groundwork for some great drama coming down the pike.

Angel's character is based around a 1930s gangster so good catch! And also as far as abuse in Helluva (you asked if it was this bad), it's pretty rampant as well. Stella abuses stolas verbally and emotionally and implied to physically as well (during their confrontation on the balcony when he puts his foot down on the divorce, she goes to hit him, and he stops her hand, and it's framed as a huge moment). Fizz has an abusive manager/mentor figure in mammon. Blitz, Stolas, and Moxxie are all part of the awful abusive dad club. Struggling inside of, overcoming, and recovering from abuse are topics Vivienne writes about a lot. A lot of writers shy away from those topics, but I think she depicts and handles them quite well!

While the Pilot episode is not essential, my personal opinion is that it is still worth it to watch. Even in these first two episodes they’ve made minor references to it that enrich certain jokes. There was also another old music video for Angel Dust called Addict, not sure if you ever watched it. It’s sung by Angel’s original voice actor so the voice will be slightly different https://youtu.be/ulfeM8JGq7s?si=9wdj_46Qn7B0xFYo There is also a small continuation scene after the credits

Yes, Angel reminds me of a 1920s gangster too!

Thanks for reading my comments! To follow up, my comment was intentionally vague to avoid spoilers. We will find out why Vaggie lost her eye later. (If no one has spoiled it).

It’s not just Vaggie who has an X, but I do know her story and what you mean by spoilers. Alastor also has one on his forehead. If I remember right, any sinner who was killed by some sort of physical blow has an X marking the killing strike.

Id love to see you do a cover of More Than Anything! My absolute favorite song in the entire show. Though its a duet. There hasnt been any direct character crossovers other than little background notes and stuff. Since one show was picked up by Amazon but the other wasnt, there was legal IP issues with that. But now they are both picked up by Amazon so they said we can expect Cameos.

Oh yea, I should write full sentences when I share something lol. But yes! Katie Killjoy is the same voice actor as Blitz! (also good catch with the silent o ).

Thanks for the reaction, Tim! One of the highlights of my weekend

If you thought Vox’s voice was interesting, he is voiced by Christian Borle

One of the things that gets me every time with this episode is how the skit Charlie wrote basically is just "the things wrong with Angel" that he has to act out trying to lure Pentious into. Obviously Charlie didn't intend for it to be taken that way, but for Pentious's "good boy" lines to be "say no to drugs and no sex before marriage" to Angel, who is struggling with drug addiction and is a sex worker for his abusive boss is a big OOF. Angel is my favorite character in this series. It probably shows, haha!

Season 1 of Hazbin was very crammed because they didn't yet know they would get more seasons. Plus the 8 episode limit. Unlike Helluva which they had a lot more freedom to create what they needed. Things may seemed rushed or passed over at times but Hazbin season 2 has a much better flow in my opinion. Really enjoying the reactions as always.

Sir Pentious is also Alex Brightman, the man is everywhere in the hellaverse and for good reason.

The hierarchy of Hell is: Lucifer Sin of Pride and King of Hell, his Family Charlie and Lilith, the 7 Deadly Sins, the Goetia, Sinners, Hellborns like Succubi and then Imps and Hellhounds. But there are no crossovers between the 2 shows (yet, because now that Helluva is on prime too there will be) and Sinners can't leave the Pride Ring. Also the show is set all in Penthagram City while I.M.P. is in imp city, another city in Pride. As the differences between Hazbin and Helluva, I think that in Hazbin there are more abusive characters because they all are Sinners, and mostly horrible people, in Helluva yes there are assholes but also a lot of good normal people, I feel the tone in Helluva is more melancholic and introspective it'sa slice of life after all, in Hazbin there's more drama and generally more plot

Most of the cast in Hazbin are very well known Broadway singers! Maybe you should check the names out sometime ;)

Remember the 'I am sorry' song for later. My favorite part in that song is when it starts, and charlie's first line 'It start's with sorry.' Pentious' eye blinks align with the instrument that follows it. also! pentious is also Alex Brightman!

This song has been so underrated! I love it, it is funny, wholesome, catchy and overall beautiful

You reacted to stayed gone back in June that's why it sounds familiar 🤣🤣 and don't forget Sir Pentious and Adam are both by Alex Brightman!!

Same, especially after this episode! x3

We don't get to see any other rings of Hell in Hazbin because sinners are confined to the Pride ring. As far as I know, they are simply physically unable to leave it. Pentagram City, which is the main city the sinners live in, is not the only city in Pride, though. Blitzø and co live in Imp City, which is also in Pride. So far, there's been no character crossover between the two shows (other than a few vague references here and there), but now that Helluva Boss is also on Prime, there's a chance there may be some crossover in the future. I guess we'll see. Sir Pentious is also voiced by Alex Brightman, just like Adam and Fizz. And speaking of Fizz, it looks like VoxTech makes knock-off Fizzy fembots. You saw one in Val's room. Also, I believe you recognised Stayed Gone because you actually reacted to it before. I seem to remember you commenting on the swing feel of it? Don't blame you for forgetting with the sheer number of songs you react to and this was months ago, before you started your Helluva Boss reactions. Stayed Gone is one of my favourite song from Hazbin Hotel. I'm obsessed with the "now his medium is getting bloody rare" line Vox sings, it's such good wordplay and I adore a good pun. Angel Dust is one of my favourite characters. Looking forward to seeing you re-react to Poison in a couple of episodes when you have all the context around it. His story gets really dark. It's good, though. I think it's handled with the care it deserves.

Also, I'd say the series kicks properly from episode 4 (one of my personal favourites). But the groundwork episodes are important, too. :)

I think there is more abusive characters in Hazbin vs Helluva, because most of Hazbin characters are sinners from Earth while Helluva imps, hell hounds, envy fish and the royalty are hellborn. They can be assholes, too, but the sinners are in Hell for a reason.

D
Delunatic · December 13, 2025

I think Hazbin is darker in themes and tones because it focuses more on the mortal sinners who have EARNED their place in Hell, as opposed to Helluva Boss which focuses on characters who, while influenced by the Sins they were born under, were not CONDEMNED by them. Fun facts time! •you noticed Vox's voice modulation, but if you listen close enough you can hear Valentino's voice gets little "angry moth squeaks". •Sir Pentious, a cobra so his hood flares out ( introduced in the Pilot) is also voiced by Alex Brightman. •Kitty, (Valentino's little android servant) is the V's ripoff of a robo-fizz, since they live in the same worldscape as Helluva, but the two shows were on different platforms at this time and couldn't use the same characters. The concept here being that the V's wanted to capitalize on the product but had to tweak the design and name a bit. •When Vox gets mad at Valentino he has to amp up the brightness of his screen so Valentino's attention is focused on him (moth likey bright light 😵‍💫)

I never noticed the light thing. Very cool!

Apollo Rising · December 13, 2025

Per your questions on the hierarchies etc in Hazbin, this series is set in the same universe as Helluva, but the two worlds don't cross much because when Hazbin Hotel was released it was owned by Amazon and Helluva was still independent, so they had to keep some things separate for copyright. Now that Amazon picked up Helluva as well, we might get more crossover in future seasons of both shows! But Hazbin is set exclusively in the Pride ring of Hell- which is the only ring that human sinners can reside in. Blitzo's IMP business is also in the Pride ring, but in a different city, which is why he can have sinners come to him for business.

I guess it would have been more accurate to say it wasn't your thing once, but it sure seems to be your thing more and more these days! Seeing these series back to back is a tone shift for me. I think there's just as much horrific behavior in Hulluva, but it's more likely to played for laughs there. The humor to heart ratio leans heavier on heart in Hazbin.
