Lunar Reverie
This release wasn’t exactly what I had planned 😅
I was originally going to make a fairly big collection of gothic male underwear, but apparently my inspiration had other plans. I finished one set, looked at it, and just… wasn’t feeling it. I’m not giving up on the idea at all; I already know what kind of designs I want to make, so I’m just putting it on pause until I’m actually in the mood to work on it instead of forcing myself.
So I had two other ideas in mind. One was something whimsical, mostly inspired by my new Discord profile theme ✨, and the other was this whole lunar dancer concept. And, well… the moon won 🌙
I actually had a lot of fun working on this one, even though I had to compromise with myself a bit. My original idea was much more airy and sheer, with lots of transparent fabrics, but BG3 unfortunately doesn’t always play nicely with transparency. Especially when there’s a lot of it close to the body and you start getting weird shadows and that ugly visual noise. So I had to find a balance between what I had in my head and what actually looks good in game. There are still sheer, veil-like fabrics, just in smaller amounts and in places where they behave themselves :D
The metal pieces were another little adventure. I had a pretty clear picture of the whole outfit in my head, but once I started making the individual ornaments, some of them just refused to look like they belonged to the same set. So I ended up remaking quite a few things several times until everything finally worked together.
I honestly didn’t mind that part, though, because sculpting all these little details and ornaments in ZBrush has become one of my favorite parts of the process. I definitely still have gaps in my knowledge and a lot more to learn, but I really want to keep getting deeper into ZBrush and improving my skills there. At this point I’m starting to feel like I could actually take on a proper full armor set with lots of sculpted metal pieces, which is something I’ve wanted to do for a while.
That will probably come a bit later, though. The male underwear collection is still happening, the whimsical idea is still very much alive (and that one will probably be more than just one outfit) and, of course, there’s still the rose knight I mentioned in my previous post. That one sounds like a perfect excuse to practice even more ZBrush 👀
So apparently my future plans are once again “too many things I want to make and not enough hands” :D
