The "The Dollar is Murdering our Budget help!!!" Update
This is Alfabusa, here for an incredibly boring but necessary economic briefing!

So!
Our frightful little studio-thing is being hit hard by the dollar value sinking like a rock.
And I mean this in no uncertain terms.
For context:
Our studio is based in Sweden with seven employees and a myriad of freelancers abroad, and we pay out to our employees in the Swedish Krona.
However, we are paid by both Makeship, Google Adsense and, most importantly, you here on Patreon primarily through the world-renowned US Dollar.
Throughout 2024, the USD reached a peak up and against the Swedish Krona with 1 Dollar being worth 11,15 Kronor. A fantastic exchange rate for us! Insanely huge!
With the boost in support we got here on Patreon happening at the same time, we were able to give more people solid job opportunities, and further increase the quality of our work.
Throughout 2025 and now into 2026, the Dollar has fallen by a whole 2.15 Swedish Kronor. Going from being worth 11,15 SEK to, at the time of writing, being worth 9.02 SEK.
It has priorly this year reached as low as 8.70 SEK, and projections look all the grimmer across the next few years.
To make it less abstract, this practically means we've lost 59 853 Swedish Kronor a month, 6630 USD when converted back into USD as of this moment.
Two entire monthly wages for us!
Bad!!!!
And that is, to add salt to the wounds, with our Patreon support only having gone down slightly throughout the year. Hell, its even increased as of the last update thanks to you!
So, like...
It's all has been wholly outside of our control, just the wretched spectre of current US politics having a very immediate and damaging result on our work and lives.
While this has been largely outside of our control, we've had to try and do something.
We can't just leave this to chance.
Things are looking shakey and we need to future-proof this fucker before we explode.
So, there are some things we can do to help mitigate it.
Which we will go through now!...
Changing our default currency
So, the default currency on our page has always been the US Dollar.
It's been the default on the website at large for the longest time and our page reaches all the way back to the halcyon age of 2014.
However, as of fairly recently, Patreon has provided the option to migrate from the default currency to alternative currencies.
And this is something we've now gone through with, to the Euro, a currency more local to us that is not actively perishing at this time.
It wasn't exactly the supreme ideal for us as it does cost a percentage of the full sum in conversion rates. But, the conversion rate is still smaller in comparison to the amount we lose by sticking to USD.
Important to note!
This does NOT change YOUR pledge!
If you donated in USD, it will not suddenly change.
And anyone who wants to donate in USD in the future will have the choice to do so.
However, this solution is not perfect...
The change from USD to EUR is something of a band-aid on a large, vile, undulating gash.
Because even if we're paid out in EUR, we are still largely being paid in USD,
as most people here have obviously donated in the default USD.
So, we're going to need to go a bit further to actually get this hole patched more properly.
With that, the next thing to discuss is...

Listen, being at the mercy of grassroots financing is certainly a whole lot better in pretty much every way compared to being at feet of major shareholders in a publicly traded company.
The hardest part is always asking for more.
You've come through for us on so many critical occasions already that doing just that feels ... Not Good.
We've built our whole channel off of good-will from our viewers, and this act on our part always chaves at that good-will. It's not a trade we like making.
But, we're now in a uniquely stupid situation, and we genuinely wouldn't have to do this if it weren't for US Government shitting the bed in every way it is possible to shit a bed and then rolling around in it.
But septic bed aside though, what are we even asking for?
Two things!
Obviously, the standard thing of asking for more support from anyone who can afford it and... well, wants to! This will always always always help and we want you to know that we are injecting 50,000 miligrams of our appreciation into your skull vein as we speak.
The other thing we'd ask, if at all possible, is for anyone who supports us in the future, anyone who repledges, or anyone who has the energy to go through with a currency conversion of their own, to donate in our new default currency of EUR instead of the USD.
Our current goal is to try and get our current budget of ~24.500 EUR to 28.000 EUR (converted to USD that is 28.930 USD to 33.063 USD).
That way, we'll be back to the very solid place where we were in late 2024/early 2025.
Now, importantly, we are NOT expecting that this will all be covered by you, our current patrons.
I genuinely think this is too much to ask of you alone.
This is all mostly to inform you of our goals here.
Our intent is to release this information more publicly in a future State of the Ogre video, and hope there are more people out there who feel it an acceptable pursuit.
However, we do not want to release that State of the Ogre video just yet...
We want to make sure we've got some more real, actual stuff released before we release our yearly e-begging video.
We plan to release at least three things before then, which is the next Norfolk Wizard Game, the next H:TP Audiolog and one of those Marckus & Kitten Gamer Podcast things we mentioned last Update.
That way, we'll feel less slimey about doing it, and we'll also have made far more progress on Chapter 6 in the meantime as well.
Until then, we believe we'll be able to coast on the cash infusion provided by the latest Makeship campaign, as well as even the standard amount we're already provided here on Patreon (not even gonna talk about Google Adsense its a joke in January-February and that shit is also paid out in USD).

And I believe that is that, for now.
We're still looking at other options to pursue as well, but we have confidence that we'll get through this thanks to you fine and beautiful people.
Otherwise, we'll keep you updated on the state of things.

So, currently, my sub is in dollars (I guess its the default in Patreon) - as far as I can see, you can't easily change the amount type into euro's on an existing pledge; would you like existing patreons to cancel and resetup with Euros?

Went to try and change the currency on my payment, but couldn't figure out how. Nevertheless, when I went to edit the payment it went from $30 to $37, which is approximately 31 Euro. Big Success!

I've changed my currency from USD to SEK, because I didn't see EUR as an option at first. It was there, though - so would you prefer it if I changed to EUR, or would SEK give you more stability due to never having a varying exchange rate with itself?
I commented "probably euros because they'll lose less money from exchanging it a second time when paying people/artists in countries that use euros" and they ... liked? Hearted? They pressed the heart button on that comment. So probably Euros. I don't know all the details but yadda yadda bank integration in countries in the EU with integrated banking systems yadda yadda It's just easier to work with.
Understandable, upgrading my patreon by one tier
I’ve logged in to Patreon and can’t change the currency of payment. Which sucks, I’m from the EU.
The option is very difficult to find. Go to Settings -> Memberships -> Alfabusa. Click to change payment amount. At the bottom of the screen (this is on my PC, in a browser, so the mobile browser and app may differ) you should see some text saying USD, or $USD, or similar. Clicking on that lets you change currency.
I am doing my part with what little I can give, when the eventual video about this drops I will make sure to share it in my friend circles as well o7
I pay you in GBP which I believe will not affect this situation and sadly, I am a small mouse, turning out my pockets which are empty and looking up at you with tears in my eyes this month. Next month, I hope to become a chonky rat with gold chains and more disposable income. Good for you the dollard is artificially kept up with paper gold and silver that si devualuated, among other things, JP morgan have emitted in papper 500 time the quantity of gold and silver they have in bank so when a cliet come bakc and is like "I want my 80 bucks of gold deliverhere is the papper -O.K pay 120 bucks and wiat 6 month." And the conversion rate erf big bro used to be paid in dollard by google he used crypto to convert it back in €uro with a small benefit from mnior speculation on top.... Having worked in a country with a different currency to mine has taught me that setting up a Foreign currency account separate from your main one is very important. So this way you can hire people from the americas and pay them back in their monopoly money without the exchange rate. This also is important for buying smaller things online which cost the same. For instance a PC game still costs 60 USD or EUR, but its better for you to pay in USD in this case. I sent this do your DMs, but I didnt get an answer since last years question so I am repeating it here

Settings > Memberships > view details on Alfabusa > edit on payment amount and then there's a small ass button that reads USD at the bottom that you can click to change your currency. It really is easy to miss and took me a sec to find.

I mentioned this before in the last post, but maybe also make surprise shorts for other pieces of currently-popular media to try and reach a larger audience? Helldivers for example is BIG right now with the current push into Cyberstan, so a TTS-style bit for THAT would only be a good idea.

You can manually type in a higher amount to pay when you pick your donation tier. You can't directly switch the amount you pay if you're already subscribed. You need to pick another tier, change your membership to that tier, then change your membership again, select the original tier, and in the box with the amount you pay, manually type in a higher number. It's what I just did. I don't remember where the "pay in euros" button is off the top of my head, but it *does* exist

Is that even an option? Even if it is, not necessarily. Something something currency fluctuations relative to each other are chaotic and annoying to track something something Euro is stable something something you don't need to convert from SEK back to $, €, £ when paying people in countries with those currencies and lose money to conversion fees a second time, if you just have the account full of euros or USD in the first place. I'm no macroeconomist, I'm just guessing

I know you guys do NOT want to take unnecessary ads, but given the situation, would you consider it? If a bigger company, let's say of "Brilliant" or "Insert Mobile Game here" fame came along and offered you a good chunk of money, while it would certainly be annoying and sad to take it, would you consider it? You're not a huge production company, nor do you advertise yourself as such. I believe you wouldn't lose much goodwill if you did take the money. As long as you properly explained your need and willingness to do so in your next info video, I believe this could go over without much surprise/moaning. Just an idea, I'm sure you have your own reasons for not taking the devils bargains

If you're in the EU you should be able to do this in your account settings right now. I did it a while ago when I moved and my paycheck changed from USD to EUR
