Unlock more membership growth with discounts

In recent years, November through January has brought the largest bump in paid membership sign-ups for creators across Patreon. You’ve told us you’ve felt that momentum too, asking for ways to incentivize fans to join or upgrade during busy seasons. Now you can continue to grow from the holiday boost with membership discounts. Through sales and discount codes, you can give fans a way to join your community at a more accessible first-month price — and a reason to do it now!

To get started, head to the discounts page and select membership discounts. Choose your discount amount and the type of discount you want to create —a public sale or a regular discount code. You can only have one public sale active at a time, but you can always set multiple discount codes for your different groups.

Here’s how it works: 

• Set a limited-time sale around a season or occasion. Whether it’s a birthday, holiday, or you’re launching something new, time your sale with the moment. This can be a great way to drive urgency around an active promotion to anyone who visits your page. This type of discount will be automatically applied upon checkout. 

• Give specific groups a unique offer. With a code you have more control over who can redeem the offer. If you plan to share the code on social media, a podcast, or a video, pick something that's memorable and easy to convey visually, but not so generic that someone could guess it by typing in random codes. If you plan to make exclusive codes to share individually, use the random generator.  

Tell fans about your sale

Need some inspiration on how to promote a sale?  

• Lay out the perks: Loish, known for creating digital paintings and tutorials, promoted her 30% discount in an Instagram video, outlining and showing everything fans can now get at her new price – including her full backlog of tutorials, Q&A sessions, and more.

• Promote where your fans are: Re:animated, a video reaction creator, set a limited 40% discount for one of his most popular tiers. To help spread the word, he shared the unique discount code on his YouTube channel and directly to his free members on Patreon, driving a boost in new paid memberships.

Membership discounts are found alongside shop discounts if you have a published shop. To take your holiday promotion even further, you can also consider discounting your shop items, which now include posts and collections you have for sale.
